Probably some people like Kevin, Isabelle, and even Melina. By now, Melina should've made the most progress, since her Gift to literally manipulate reality is by far the most broken Gift in the entire world.
Still, he had a point.
Alexius was powerful. Very powerful. A battle against him would destroy this city, and even a neighboring country, if not more.
