Chapter 17 - Delivery Business

Saturday, September 19th.

[Infinite Money System]

[Total System Balance: ¥790.00]

[Available System Balance: ¥0.00]

[Personal Balance: ¥4,820.00]

Lin Feng looked at his system.

It had only been two days of teaching, and his money had already increased this much. Now he was earning 790 yuan a day.

This meant that per year, he was already earning more than his family's combined income.

He sighed.

Today was a weekend, and so was tomorrow, so his system balance wasn't going to increase. It felt like a loss, but he reassured himself - there was no need to be greedy.

He dismissed the system and looked around the room.

Zhang Wei, surprisingly, wasn't studying as usual. Instead, he was typing something into his laptop, his fingers moving extremely fast.

Is he coding? Lin Feng wondered. He had mentioned doing some freelance work.

As for Li Jun, he was at the study desk, nose buried in a textbook.

And Chen Ming? He was rummaging through his wardrobe, tossing clothes aside as he searched for something.

Lin Feng watched him for a moment.

"What exactly do you wish to accomplish with this?" he asked.

Chen Ming finally found what he was looking for - a stack of fliers. He pulled them out triumphantly and turned to Lin Feng.

"Glad you asked!" He held up the fliers with a grin. "So here's the plan. I buy a bunch of items at wholesale prices - way cheaper than retail. Then I deliver them to people at slightly above market price. The difference? Pure profit."

He tapped the flier proudly.

"Campus delivery service. Snacks, drinks, daily necessities - whatever people need, brought right to their door."

Lin Feng raised an eyebrow. "And how will you pay for deliverers?"

"No need," Chen Ming said confidently. "It's just me. I handle everything myself."

"Just you?" Li Jun looked up from his textbook. "How fast can you deliver?"

"Fast enough."

"What if you have classes?" Zhang Wei asked, pausing his typing.

Chen Ming opened his mouth, then closed it.

"And what if people order while you're busy?" Lin Feng pressed. "If I were a customer, I'd rather just go get it myself than rely on something so unreliable."

"I... I can manage my time," Chen Ming said, though his confidence was wavering.

"What about inventory?" Li Jun asked. "What if you buy items that people don't actually want?"

"I planned for that!" Chen Ming perked up. "That's what the fliers are for. I'm surveying what people actually want before I buy anything."

"Surveys through fliers?" Zhang Wei frowned. "How many responses have you gotten so far?"

Silence.

"How will you store the inventory?" Lin Feng continued. "Your wardrobe?"

"Well..."

"What's your delivery radius? Just our building? The whole campus?"

"I was thinking…"

"What about payment? Cash only? What if someone doesn't have exact change?"

Chen Ming stood there, flier in hand, his earlier enthusiasm slowly draining from his face.

The room fell quiet.

He looked down at the paper in his grip.

"Is this... really just another failure?" he muttered.

Lin Feng watched him for a moment.

Then he smiled.

"Actually, your idea isn't bad at all."

Chen Ming's head snapped up. "Really?"

"That's right," Lin Feng said. "It just needs a little work."

He sat up on his bed and looked at the others.

"Here's what I'm thinking. Chen Ming's idea has potential, but trying to do everything alone is the problem. What if all of us came together to form a business?"

The others turned to look at him, curiosity on their faces.

"If we pool our money together - let's say we each invest 1,500 yuan - we'd have 6,000 yuan to work with. With that, we can find a good supplier. Even accounting for transport costs, we could get products at around 70% of retail price. That's a solid profit margin."

He paused, organizing his thoughts.

"We rent a small storage room - about 500 yuan a month should be enough. We stock the items there and carry the most in-demand ones with us for quick sales."

Chen Ming was nodding eagerly now.

"But what about orders?" Li Jun asked. "How do we manage that?"

Lin Feng turned to Zhang Wei.

"You know how to code, right?"

Zhang Wei blinked. "Yeah, but…"

"How about this: instead of investing 1,500 yuan, you contribute your skills instead. Build us a simple app - something we can use to receive and track orders. We'll count that as equal value to the cash investment."

Zhang Wei's brow furrowed, but he didn't refuse outright.

"As for delivery," Lin Feng continued, "in the beginning, we handle it ourselves. We check our schedules and set up 'delivery windows' - specific times when one of us is free to make rounds."

He gestured as he explained.

"When someone places an order, they pick a delivery window that works for them. Whoever's on duty during that window picks up the products and makes the deliveries. It's not perfect, but it should work for now."

"What about items we don't have on hand?" Li Jun asked.

"We assign those to later delivery windows," Lin Feng said. "That gives us time to restock. We can even limit certain products to specific windows so we're not caught off guard."

He turned back to Chen Ming.

"Those survey fliers you've been handing out, you can continue doing that. Ask people what items they actually need. Ask if they'd be willing to wait a bit for delivery at a fair price. We can even send surveys through group chats to gather more data."

Chen Ming's eyes were practically sparkling now.

"With that information," Lin Feng said, "we can buy the right products without wasting money on stuff that doesn't sell. And we'll know exactly which items to carry with us for instant delivery."

He looked around at the others.

"So? What do you think?"

The room was silent for a moment.

"It could work," Li Jun said slowly, nodding.

"That's actually really good," Chen Ming added, his voice filled with renewed excitement.

They all turned to Zhang Wei.

He sighed.

"Alright, I admit - it's a good idea."

"So should we do it?" Chen Ming asked eagerly.

Zhang Wei hesitated. "I don't know... I have experience with coding, but it's mostly backend stuff. I'm not sure I can make something user-friendly."

Lin Feng placed a hand on his shoulder.

"You're a smart guy," he said with a smile. "I'm sure you can figure it out."

Li Jun nodded in agreement.

Chen Ming looked at Zhang Wei with pleading eyes.

Zhang Wei glanced at each of them in turn, then let out a long breath.

"Fine, fine. I could try." He held up a finger. "But no promises."

Then he frowned.

"Wait - isn't this technically a business? Won't we need to register? Pay taxes? All that legal stuff?"

The others went quiet, exchanging uncertain looks.

Lin Feng shook his head.

"We don't have to worry about that yet," he said. "We're just testing the waters. Most college businesses start exactly like this."

He paused.

"But if we actually start making serious money, then yes - we'll need to register as a business. And since most of what we'll be selling is probably food and drinks, we'll need to apply for a health permit too."

The others nodded slowly, absorbing the information.

Lin Feng looked at each of them.

"So," he said. "Are we doing this or what?"

"I'm all for it!" Chen Ming shouted, practically bouncing on his feet.

"I think we should go for it," Li Jun said calmly.

"Same," Zhang Wei added with a small nod.

Lin Feng smiled.

"Then it's settled."
