Chapter 9 - Dead Meat

Haah... haah... haah...

I should have known. The signs were there from the start: that girl is a total lunatic.

"It's okay, you're alright." My blurring gaze focused on a young lady with pure white hair and eyes—literal shades of white. She looked blind, or rather, she looked exactly like that one girl from a top-tier anime. Her hands were glowing with a white light, and I could feel vitality returning to my body. I'm not exactly sure what happened; one moment, that bitch suddenly began screaming for help, and the carriage jolted to a halt. The next thing I knew, two simps were upon me. The carriage was practically destroyed and I... I should have died. It was only by sheer chance that the princess herself intervened. Now, she was the one trying to heal me. I didn't even know healing magic was a real thing.

"Just breathe, okay?" I nodded. It was night now; we had set up camp, and I was still very much at death's door. Numerous stabbings, a near decapitation—I don't even understand what happened. Why did she do that? If she wanted me dead, she could have easily done it herself. So why?

"Urgh," I grunted. It felt like my ribs had caved in. I wasn't sure I was going to survive, even with the healing.

"El...! I'm so sorry," I heard a faint, pleading voice, but someone at death's door doesn't have time for trivialities.

"I'm sorry, but you need to leave. He's reacting to your presence, and it's making it harder to heal him," I heard the princess's soft voice say.

I want to sleep.

Damn it.

It's that same feeling I had after choking on a fishbone until I couldn't breathe anymore—that suffocating weight, that desperate need for sleep that follows the panic.

Am I dying?

Shit!

SHIT!

FUCKING BITCH!!!

"I need you to breathe... or you'll die."

Damn it.

Damn... it.

...

..

.

"HAAAAH!"

I gasped awake to find myself in a... tent.

"Ugh," I groaned in pain, rubbing my forehead before trying to shift my weight. That was when I noticed something. Something was sprawled against my body.

White hair?

I stared at it for a while—just a few slow, agonizing seconds—before it clicked and horror claimed me. I bolted upright the next instant. There, lying right beside me, was none other than the freaking princess!

"Haah, haah, haah... calm down. It has to be a dream." I smiled weakly and forced a laugh. I slapped my own forehead. "Damn, I almost freaked out. What a nightmare."

I don't know why, but I clung to the conclusion that this was a dream. Probably because, if my memories were right, I was dying the last time I was conscious. When the hell did I go from a deathbed to bedding a princess—a freaking princess from a whole other kingdom?

I sat back down on the soft mattress, waiting to wake up, but then I heard a voice from outside.

"Your Highness, it's time. We have to set out."

A man's voice. Probably one of her guards.

Okay. This dream is getting out of hand.

I looked at the girl in question. She was deep in sleep, without a care in the world, a silly smile plastered on her face.

"Harder, you low-life!" I suddenly recalled something, though the memory was hazy.

Okay. OKAY. So, this is not a dream.

"Not a dream," I muttered, ruffling my hair. I actually banged royalty. "Fuck me to death," I whispered in pure exasperation.

I don't know what led to this outcome, but one thing is clear: if I don't get the fuck out of here before she wakes up or a guard walks in, it is the absolute END of this story.
