D+2 Night (from the time of kidnap)
The second video made its appearance on the internet. This time, the popularity of the first one propelled the video into its viral state faster than the previous one.
It was a black and white video again. There was nothing but a wall behind the girl. The video was still a little angled from the girl's left side and covered the top of the girl's torso as she sat in a chair.
This time, the girl didn't have a blindfold. She had a band-aid on her forehead and another on her cheek. She looked very stiff and defensive, her gaze sharp and lips pursed tight.
"Who are you?" the girl asked coldly.
"Someone who has known you for a long time." The male voice from the first video sounded in the background, the man himself invisible on the screen, probably sitting behind the camera somewhere.
"No, I mean who are you?" she reiterated.
"Just a nobody. One in the billions of humans alive." It seemed like the man was trying to sound a little sarcastic.
"Really? Preaching me philosophy?" the girl snarled.
"No, I am merely saying that I am nothing special. Not a criminal in the watchlist of law. Not a celebrity. Never been viral on the internet, although the video I last posted has now made me into a viral sensation. Technically, you are the viral sensation. People are more concerned about you than me." The man's voice sounded very controlled.
"Why did you kidnap me?" The girl didn't seem anxious, merely asking it as a casual thing she wanted to know.
"To let you know the consequences of your actions, the rights and wrongs you have done; your foolishness and overestimation of the morality of your own self and the people around you. The mask you wear and the real you behind that, I want to expose all that." A hint of a rude humour played on in his tone, as if he knew the girl's thoughts.
She nodded her head and asked in the same underplayed tone, her face staying neutral, "So, you consider yourself a God appointed judge? A vigilante of some twisted philosophy? You take yourself as the one responsible to bring order and justice to people?"
The man laughed. "Mitra... Mitra, I am none of that. Why should I judge someone I don't know? Why should I even try to know about others? My motif for everything I do is you. I am doing this because it is you."
"You want to ruin me?" The girl raised her eyebrows, now turning a little cautious.
"No, not ruin you. More like make you understand what you have done and what you have been doing to cover up your conscience."
The girl's expression hardened. "What do you mean?" she asked carefully.
"We will get to it later. I thought you had more pressing questions when you met me." The man's voice stayed calm in the background.
The girl got visibly anxious. Voice and face revealing her turmoil, she asked, "You kidnapped a woman around twenty days back."
It was something that the public hadn't heard before.
"That's correct," the invisible man answered.
Her eyes widened with the confirmation. She stated, "I witnessed it and you saw me then."
"Again, correct. I saw the horror, fury and helplessness screaming silently in your eyes, your thoughts playing on your face even in that darkness." The man's voice was turning heavy with the words he said.
"What did you do to her?" the girl asked furiously, her nostrils flaring.
"I killed her." The voice was cold and strong.
The girl jumped out of her chair in agitation, moving out of the video frame and a crash was heard in the background.
There was a split-second cut in the video and the scene changed, the video having been edited to cut out a few frames.
The girl was back in the chair. This time she was heaving with anger, her eyes and nostrils flaring, her body shivering with fury. She looked completely shaken. There were tears and a couple of small scratches on her face as she stared ahead, most possibly at the perpetrator.
"That was some scuffle." The man's voice was light as he spoke in the background.
The girl looked into the camera once, her fury evident, and then turned back to the man in front of her and said, "Maybe you should show your blackened eye to the public. They might find some relief in the injuries I have inflicted on you. Do they know how bad I hit you when you had first attacked and kidnapped me?" She sounded really bitter, voicing out all the hatred she had towards him.
"They seem to be more worried about the scratches on your face." The man's voice deepened.
"Like I said, they should look at your state instead. Oh yeah, I forgot, you are too much of a coward to show them your face." The girl sneered at him.
"No. I wait for the right moment always, Mitra. Like now." The man's voice got heavier as he pronounced, "Which is why you are sitting here across me and not in your home. Had I not waited, it would have been disastrous."
"You think you got me here like you wanted because you planned it, don't you?" There was an evident sarcasm playing on the girl's face, as if she was harbouring a truth that would hurt the man.
"Yes."
"Wrong, you dunderhead," she spat at him. "I am here because I was laying a trap for you. I played you, I was coming after you and I tried to capture you."
"Don't bluff," the man sounded weaker than before.
The girl scoffed. "Think about it. As soon as you tried to hold me from behind, I sprayed pepper at you and hit you. I kept attacking you and never tried to run, even though I had every chance to do so. I didn't scream, didn't beg you to spare me or didn't call out for others. Why do you think I did that?"
She paused, studying the man in front of her and then completed her statement, "That's because I was after you."
The video ended there.
