Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 Unexpected Foes

Authors Note: Greetings fellow readers, it is I, the writer of halo hundreds.

Since I've wrote this story, I have been thinking that to make the story more different, is that there will be something that will cause a more of a challenging task for the two factions. Mostly that is for the Spartan and his. Cause I feel like having them go up against a civilization that is barely on their level, would be too easy for them.

Which is why I'm gonna be adding some things in, so that it could be more of a challenge, not only to the residents of the ark. But of the crew of sister of flames.

Good luck

Her heart rate began beating at a rapid pace, fear beginning to swell up as she watches the topside of the creature as it closes in on her. She inhaled and exhaled sharply in fear upon seeing the water snake, which was nearly as long as four adult men in length. It's void dark eyes shown, mouth opened out when it was four feet from her.

Everyone screamed out in a frantic, fearing for the Blake girl's life.

Luckily, for the Octavia, Daloka dropped his rifle and handgun, and leaped down towards the sea beast and clashes upon impact with the sea snake.

The splashing sounding like a cannon ball, causing Octavia and the others to look the opposite way. After a few moments, once they had steadied themselves, the six of them noticed the creature moving through the water.

Daloka meanwhile gripped the snake by its tail and began pulling it back and as far away from where the fearful Octavia was.

The sea snake only flew through the air for a good three seconds and crashes in the waters four feet from where Daloka awaited it's coming strike.

"Get her out of here!" Daloka said to the kids ensuring they heard him loud and clear.

"Octavia come on!" Jasper called out as he and the group dropped a rope down for her to take.

Although it was heartening for him to see the girl beginning her climb to safety, the Spartan realized that a more pressing matter needed addressing. He looked around to see the sea snake moving forward, with the water flowing in the opposite direction as it came toward him.

And as it does, the Spartan unsheaths his combats knife and surges forth, the tip of his knife slicing the creature across its nostrils and into the side of its face.

Quickly he moved aside dodging a swing from the tail swipe. But the sudden speed his foe was moving at surprises daloka. The instant the sea creature landed on the river's surface, it quickly moved toward him.

The Spartan glanced back seeing the Blake girl who was still in the midst of climbing. He knew he couldn't afford to let the snake target Octavia and so he moved forth to meet the snake.

When the two met, a splash of water transpired, causing the water around them to spurt upward in twelve feet high. Though Daloka might've fought for his entire life, he was sadly at a disadvantage, as water wasn't his home turf. The sea snake, on the other hand, was far better at competing against him in its waters whereas it began swirling around him and envalops him by tightening its squeeze.

The shield around him was starting to show itself in response to the immense force the snake was exerting.

Within his helmets heads up display, the percentage was shown to be at ninety six percent. With this news he understood he had to stop fooling himself and end it for he knows where carelessness would evantually lead him to. And carelessness is something that the sea snake had expected him to reside with.

Unfortunately, before the sea snake could've swallowed him whole, daloka was able to wiggle his one arm out and activated the hidden energy dagger within his gauntlet of his right arm. As soon as it came to life, Daloka attacked the sea snake. The plasma energy, hotter than the sun's surface, easily tore through its armored scales.

The snake released its prey as it felt considerable pain from injuries inflicted by the opponent that stood back up.

Daloka positioned himself above the water, acting as a barrier between the sea creature and those behind him. His plasma dagger glowed as the water vaporized from the intense heat. Positioned on his left, I observed him wielding his personal combat blade.

The two foes remained in their current place, eyes locking in each other as if readying for whatever comes next, either ones readying for who would make the first move at any instance.

Daloka had prepared to initiate the first strike made strides forth, armored legs pushing through the deep water, yet, before he could take three more steps, The sea snake emitted a loud, guttural roar accompanied by a hissing sound reminiscent of a snake, prompting the others to step back in caution. Afterwards, it turned away from the approaching Daloka and began swimming off into the other way while creating a trail from its own blood.

For the moment Clark, Octavia and karteria stood in awe. All eyes were on the Spartan as he turned strided towards another route leading him to the sands a few yards from the cliff the group was on.

"Spartan!" Clarke said yelling out to daloka while carefully hurrying over to his path.

Before he reached the surface ground, daloka made sure to keep an eye on the interface map of the river in his helm, ensuring that the sea snake wouldn't tried to pull a fake move on him. After all, he learned to not let his guard down in the past few times.

"Your alright!" Clarke says in regards of worry for any signs of injury he might've gotten from his quarrel with the sea snake.

"How are you even alive man!?" questioned Monty in shock of what he and everyone just witnessed.

"You okay?" karteria asked him after the Spartan hadn't responded to the other two.

Daloka halted in his stride as he had exited the water. After deactivating his energy wrist blade, he raised the hand holding the combat knife and secured it on the sheath attached to his right armored shoulder pauldron.

Turning to face the others, he could see that they were all filled with different types of emotion swelling up within them.

Though, a certain lady that was in front of him wouldn't budge. "I'm fine... That creature will evantually die bleeding out." The Spartan said informing them of the outcome, yet he peered over to Octavia and asked. "You okay?"

Everybody looked altogether looked at the Blake girl and then back at the Spartan. The first to ask was of course the ever so willful Octavia.

"I Should be asking you the same thing."

Karteria the oldest out of the bunch stood where she is, and looked the Spartan up and down. "The girl is correct, Spartan. Given that you confronted that creature with only a light blade and your common knife, you ought to be in a more serious state."

He considered the young woman's words without any rejection, for he knows that some things being said were to be taken with great care."I'll be fine. Though you are right about the the statement you've made. That thing could've died if it had not swam away."

"It sounded like you wanted a second round with that thing, or whatever the hell it is?" remarked Jasper in slight humor.

"It's a creature that was known in earth as a snake... However, I wouldn't say that it's of normal one from the many records of earth's animal history."

"How would you know that!?" Clarke added in interest, her nerdy nature of the planet's history springing up like a light bulb.

"There are no documented instances of Earth hosting a snake of that magnitude, except for a few species that can reach or surpass such sizes." daloka replied back turning his helm to where the sea snake was last seen, it's bloods still flowing in its trail.

"Like the green anaconda or the African rock python. Only exception, is how fast it was moving. Normal snakes of that size can't move that quick. The one I've just fought probably changed due to the aftermath of the radiation."

"Well whatever it's name is, it doesn't matter, all that I care about is that it's gone." Spoke karteria in mere spite of the mutated snake.

"Agreed." daloka said answering the woman and turned to face Clarke. "We should get going."

"Okay." The Griffin girl replied back and faced the others. "Hows it going Octavia?"

"I'm alive all thanks to you. All I got from that climb was a scratch and scrape." Replied Octavia appreciating the concern the blonde has of her.

Seeing that the girl was fine, Clarke turned to the group and was about to announce the next words, when suddenly she was interrupted after Monty, in a haste came back with the Spartans rifle and hand gun in his arms.

He strode forth and offered a simple thank you to the kid. Then reached back with his rifle locking it in a magnetic holster his armor.

Clarke checked to see if everyone was prepared for another track to their main objective, After everyone had put their clothes back on, with the exception of Daloka, she noticed that reminding them was unnecessary.

"OK, it seems we are all good to go." Clarke told them while nodding towards the Spartan and Karteria whereas the group followed after the trio in the continuation of their trip.

 Sof & Ark Dropship Sight

Only a few hours have passed since daylight revealed itself to the inhabitants of the two human factions: those from the ark's dropship and the UNSC Sister of Flames crew.

One particular groups was that of a trio. Gabriella, wells and the supposed ex girlfriend of someone from the one hundreds.

Dragging behind the combat medic was the bodies of the two boys who had seemingly died earlier since yesterday's arrival of the dropship.

"Your people should learned how to follow rules to avoid this kinds of things!" Gabriella told the young girl Beth.

Beth hadn't replied yet, but only looked forward at the direction of their front path. Afterwards she spoke in reply. "It wasn't entirely my fault. Of course I did foolishly unstrapped myself from my own seat during the fall, for wanting to join in on the fun with that fin boy and these two, but."

"But what?" Questioned Gabriella cutting the girl off.

Beth glanced at the usnc woman and then looked onward once again. "But I did followed the warning from the council woman's daughter... If it wasn't for her warning, I and the fin boy would've been dead along with this two."

From the bottom right corner of Beth's eyes she noticed the long dead body's of the two boys. "They look like they are barely in their twenties."

Beth joined in on the matter as she couldn't help but felt obligated to. "They were in the same class as I and every other kids from the one hundred."

"I thought you didn't know them?" inquired Gabriella out of her own interest.

"I Never said I did. But I did see them during a class with one of the imprisoned grown ups. A man by the name of pike. Who was like the only teacher willing to educate a bunch of brats in chains. Except him." Beth remarked with a slight indication of loathing towards wells.

Wells jaha meanwhile could only let out an exasperated sigh at the clear distaste the girl had of him."Whatever you say, you have the right to hate me and my dad for... But you have to understand, my father was only doing what was necessary for the betterment of our people's survival."

"Betterment." Beth repeated ceasing in her stride. Her eyes shown with clear signs of pure hatred as she then veered to the right and looked up at the taller kid. "Your daddy, was responsible for the death of my cousin Jenna's older brother. The kid was only seventeen years old when your father sentenced him to death. For what huh, for providing food for his little sister!"

Wells wished to stop immediately and hoped there was a proper reason to respond to the upset girl. Regardless of the circumstances, he understood on a deeper level how Beth must have felt, considering that she and her cousin were consistently seen contributing to their parents' sustenance. Regrettably, time allowed only a brief period for them, for it couldn't cover what it is they were hoping none to see.

Beth's aunt who was in the midst of recovering from an injury was supposed to be floated for having a second child, in other words, executed for treason of her indecision of birthing a kid under the nose of the council and the authorities.

Luckily, her cousin Ben couldn't bare his little sister to grow up without a parent, without a mother who was sentenced to be floated like those before her... Luckily for her, Ben made a sacrifical decision to take his mother's crime in her place by having himself be sentenced to death. And the one who had stood behind the door as he was floated, was none other then chancellor, thelonious jaha.

"Look I get what you went through. I truly do. I had sympathized with what many of you have went through okay. But my father, as cruel as he may seem, he was the only one I know of, that could make the decision that others couldn't." Wells mentioned his concern about Beth's feelings toward Thelonious, and upon doing so, he observed her response through her expression, and continued to speak."Besides, he to went through the same thing. My grandma, my father's mom, she had took it upon herself to take her friend's place. I believe that was the sole reason my dad accepted your cousin Ben's offer."

Following this revelation, both girls seemed to have a change of heart about the statement made by the Jaha boy. And Although Beth wished to withhold any display of sympathy, she ultimately released a deep sigh, reflecting her realization that what his father experienced was akin to what her cousin Jen endured.

"I'm sorry." Uttered Beth.

Wells only nodded, complying in the acceptance of Beth's apologies.

Unfortunately for them both, Gabriella suddenly dropped the ropes causing the two teenagers to squint away from the dusts of small debris that flew everywhere.

"As great as the sentimental talk you two seem to share. I could need some help digging some Graves, for our two dead guests." Gabriella said not wanting to dwell too much in the sadness that was about to occur.

"Sure." Wells said as he and Gabriella strode forth and accept the two shovels from the woman.

"How long exactly will this take?" Asked Beth who made the first dig whereas she and wells followed after Gabriella's words.

"Less then three hours. And if we're lucky enough, we might be able to make it thirty minutes!" Gabriella said in reply...

For a while the trio had shoveled out a large amount of dirt for the grave, the hole itself has had to expand out into a long enough length of seven feet for the bodies to fit through. And although they made it worked, wells was sadly denied in aiding the two girls on digging a grave for the dead. Despite his persistence, a brief dismissal from the combat medic, coupled with Gabriella's insightful and rational remarks, was sufficient enough to persuade him to remain in place.

Although Gabriella desired his assistance, she recognized that involving the Wells child in digging a seven-foot hole would likely exacerbate his existing injuries.

Thankfully, with the passage of time, she and Beth were able to complete their challenging task. The unsc woman might have been used to run in the the middle of a combat field during the past wars, but having to stand in one exact place and digging a grave, tends to put a stress on someone who was more keen to holding either a rifle or bandage.

Yet she was no complainer, like most people in life. And went on in the next task ahead of them. Which was to put the two body bags in the hole.

Of course they wanted to at least show a sign of respect while doing so...

"There." Muttered Gabriella as she exhaled deeply with both arms on her waist. "God, I wish I had brought a water bottle!"

"Come on army girl. You should be tougher then that." Jested Beth who walked past and tapped her by the side of her shoulder.

Gabriella wanted to protest to the teenager, but refrain from doing so.

As she and Beth strode over to the second body, the sudden movement from the bushes behind wells shifted side to side... The trio, confused by this stayed in place, mind wondering on what it is. Yet one thing caused Wells to widen his eyes to which made him hasten his pace over to Beth and Gabriella.

Beth muttered a confused word on this, but soon joined in on the surprising looks that spread over to both Gabriella and wells. For the first thing that shown to them of their sudden guest, was two large bones spikes pushing through the bushes, yet what made them decide their thought on this thing as hostile was some sort of animal hide and flesh hanging on one of the bone spikes. However, one thing that made them took three steps back altogether, was the single human skull sticked onto the right bone spike.

Evantually, their guest had fully revealed itself as it slowly strided out of the bushes showing it half boney and half grotesque fleshed face. It's one remaining eye stayed in place on the right side, while the other was long gone. The front of its face shown only the hollowed bones of its skull, of where it's nostril once was. Two boney spike were seen protruding downward with four other ones of different sizes pointing upward.

It let out a clacking chombed of its mouth, as if it was barking followed by a growl.

"What is that thing!?" Beth says scared for her life as this was something she couldn't figure out due to its disfigured body.

Gabriella listened to her companion. In her mind, she attempted to identify the nature of this creature, and soon discerned it through its ears and facial features. She had hope she was wrong at first, but after a few moments she discern it as a wolf. Though, she probably saw it as some sort of mutated wolf due to what had happened to this planet.

A third growl came from the monstrous mutant as it bit at the air, clearly showing it wasn't going to let them off that easy. And immediately acting out of instinct, Gabriella reached for her hand gun.

*Bang*
