Chapter 42 - Chapter 42 Power and Responsibility

Everyone had a great time at the anime convention.

At the convention, people didn't have to pretend to be good kids, nor did they have to worry about not being understood by others.

Here, everyone could meet friends with similar hobbies and also go wild together for their favorite characters.

After the convention, the group chose a cafe near the mall to rest.

Maid Latte.

"Welcome back, Master."

As soon as they entered, a maid greeted them with a smile.

The girl looked like she was high school age, wearing a classic black and white maid outfit, and even adorned with cat ears and a tail.

She was probably a student working part-time.

"Oh, those ears move! How do you do that?"

"Cat ears move naturally, Master. But never mind that, what would you like to eat? Today's special recommendation is omurice."

"Then I'll have three portions. Let's see, one of this cake, and this one, and this one..."

"All sweets, huh, Gojo? Aren't you afraid of getting cavities?"

Geto looked at Gojo Satoru's long list of cakes and desserts and began to wonder why Gojo Satoru never got cavities.

"He did get them."

Eichi answered Geto's question.

"Wait, how do you know?"

With his dark history exposed, Gojo Satoru couldn't sit still.

"The divine child of the Gojo Family rolling on the floor in pain from cavities, secretly crying in his room because he couldn't eat his snacks, boo hoo hoo, so pitiful."

"Huh? Who's spreading rumors about me?"

"Everyone's spreading it! That news spread throughout The Big Three Families a while ago!"

The news was brought back by Toji. At the time, this news also reached the Zenin Clan.

Toji happened to hear it when he went to the Zenin Clan to choose a cursed tool.

"Damn it, those guys..."

Looking at Gojo Satoru gritting his teeth, Eichi felt that if the person who spread this rumor appeared in front of Gojo Satoru, they would definitely be taught a good lesson by Gojo Satoru.

"That's very much like something Gojo would do."

Geto, beside him, also chuckled.

"Geto! How could even you be like this?"

Gojo Satoru felt betrayed by his best friend.

"Master, this is the Moe Omurice, and this is the Sakura Cream Mousse..."

"Misaki-chan, we'd like to order over here."

"Coming right up!"

The maid named Misaki turned to respond to the customers at the table in the distance.

"Please enjoy your meal. If you need anything, please call me."

Misaki bowed slightly, then turned to take an order from another table.

"Quite energetic, huh? What, are you interested in her?"

Gojo Satoru leaned in front of Eichi, nudging Eichi's waist with his elbow.

"No, I just feel like she looks a bit familiar."

Eichi gave Gojo Satoru a roll of his eyes.

"When you're interested in a girl, that's the prelude to falling for her."

Geto held his coffee in one hand and propped his cheek with the other, showing an expression of enjoying the show.

"Go cool off somewhere."

"Don't be shy."

"Go eat your cake."

Eichi picked up a cream puff and used it to block Gojo Satoru's mouth.

"Oh, this tastes good! It's just not sweet enough."

"Your kind of sweetness is enough to be lethal for ordinary people."

Eichi picked up a piece of tamagoyaki and put it into his mouth.

It was fluffy and tender, with a rich egg and milk flavor filling his mouth.

The taste was indeed good.

The omurice also tasted great; the egg was smooth and tender, and with the cream mushroom sauce and ketchup, the flavor was even richer. The rice must have been seasoned, as it was very fragrant.

"Geto, what did you order?"

Gojo Satoru looked at the food in front of Geto.

"Let's see, coffee, matcha cake, chocolate mousse. It doesn't seem sweet enough at all."

"I remember matcha and coffee both have a slight bitterness, right? It's better to eat more sweets occasionally."

"I like it."

Geto reached out and pushed Gojo Satoru's large face back.

"Oh, that's right."

Gojo Satoru seemed to remember something.

"Tokyo Jujutsu High is starting in a few months. Are you guys going?"

"Yes, I will go. Tokyo Jujutsu High is a place specifically for teaching Jujutsu Sorcerers. By entering Tokyo Jujutsu High, I can better understand jujutsu and Cursed Spirits, and also use this power to protect more ordinary people."

Geto withdrew his hand.

"I know, I know. I know you, Geto, are a good boy."

Gojo Satoru leaned lazily back in his chair, waving his hand impatiently at Geto.

"No."

Gojo Satoru's perfunctory attitude made Geto quite serious.

"Listen up, Gojo, the existence of jujutsu is to protect non-sorcerers. The survival of the weak is how this society should be."

"More grand principles? I hate grand principles."

Gojo Satoru's lips curled into a smile.

"Hmm?"

"Power is just power. Adding reasons, responsibilities, and such to power is something only the weak do."

Gojo Satoru exerted a little force, adjusting his posture from leaning back in the chair to resting his arms on the table, propping his chin on the back of his hands.

His sunglasses slid down due to inertia, revealing his cyan-blue Six Eyes that seemed to see through everything.

"Don't get carried away by those grand principles, Geto."

Having his beliefs so thoroughly denied, even Geto, Gojo Satoru's best friend, was a bit annoyed at this moment.

Geto's eyes narrowed, and an expression of Life Qi appeared on his face.

This expression made his already small eyes completely disappear.

"Alright, alright, this is a cafe! You're not trying to have a fight here, are you?"

Shoving the last two cream puffs into their mouths, Eichi acted as a peacemaker.

Geto reached for the cream puff, then put it in his mouth, looking very displeased.

Gojo Satoru, on the other hand, just opened his mouth and accepted Eichi's feeding as if nothing had happened.

"Eichi, do you think I'm right?"

"Swallow it before you speak."

Upon hearing this, Gojo Satoru immediately swallowed what was in his mouth.

"Eichi, do you think I'm right?"

"I agree with half of it."

"Ah, which half?"

"Power is power; how it's used is up to you to decide."

"Eichi, how could even you..."

Geto frowned, his barely visible eyes widening a bit.

The opposition from his two best friends caused a change in the mindset of this half-grown boy.

"Geto."

Eichi interrupted Geto.

"The strong protecting the weak—I agree with that."

"Huh?"

First denying, then agreeing, this made Geto's brain a bit slow to process.

"But you must distinguish the objects you want to protect. Not all weak people are worth protecting. Some people, once they disappear, will make the world a better place."

"Moreover, the definition of 'weak' is too broad, so broad that it will make you doubt whether protecting 'the weak' has any meaning at all. Sooner or later, you will realize that a person's heart is vast enough to contain the entire world, but a person's heart is also small enough to only protect the people they truly want to protect."

Eichi secretly decided to keep a close eye on Geto, to prevent him from straying again.

Some things are unavoidable, but with proper guidance beforehand, the story can lead to a different ending.

There are still three years; it's not too late.

"See, Geto."

Gojo Satoru looked smug.

"You too, Gojo. Power without purpose only brings chaos and destruction. A person only becomes truly strong when they bear something."

"There he is, Eichi, full of grand principles."

Gojo Satoru spread his hands.

Gojo Satoru was truly a person who acted on his impulses, disregarding worldly opinions, until the moment Geto defected, only then did he realize his own power had limits and began to bear his responsibilities.

"Oh, that's right. Before enrollment, remember to get your Jujutsu Sorcerer Rank assessment."
