Chapter 39 - Chapter 38: Daily Trifles

As soon as September arrived, there was a feeling of autumn; it crept in during a foggy dawn and disappeared by the hot afternoon.

Gone was the heat of July and August, and absent was the biting cold of winter; it was gentle and warm, peaceful and serene.

Gold Legend leaned against the window, quietly taking in the subtle change of season.

Today was a rest day. Unusually, Gold Legend did not go out to wander the mundane world, choosing instead to stay in the dorm and enjoy a peaceful day off.

Well, actually, she had been ordered to clean the dorm by the Dorm Head who had returned from the Summer Training Camp.

It had been several months since she moved into the dorm. Gold Legend had already decorated it quite a bit, and because she was wealthy in this life, she could buy things she could only look at in her previous life without a second thought, making the supposed double room feel somewhat cramped.

After Fuji Kiseki left for the Summer Training Camp, Gold Legend, having no one to check up on her, couldn't control her spending. Coupled with the time taken up by daily training and her naturally lazy disposition, things piled up without her noticing.

"What should I do?"

Gold Legend was at a loss; cleaning was certainly not her forte.

God, please send an angel down to me!

Gold Legend thought weakly.

Knock, knock, knock.

Someone knocked on the door.

"!"

Gold Legend sprang up as if receiving a signal and opened the door.

"Good morning, Legend, long time no see. I brought some comfort food... Why do you look like that?"

Oguri Cap held up the bag to explain her purpose, then was confused by Legend's expression.

"Long time no see, Oguri. You came at the perfect time!"

She hurriedly pulled Oguri Cap into the room.

She briefly explained the situation.

"I see, you're not good at cleaning?"

"Rather than cleaning, I'm bad at organizing. To be precise, I don't know where to start organizing."

Gold Legend was a bit embarrassed; admitting something like this was quite shameful.

"It's fine. I just happen to be here to help."

Oguri Cap didn't hesitate, immediately rolling up her sleeves and preparing to start working.

"Wait, wait, wait! The cleaning tools are here."

Gold Legend quickly stopped Oguri Cap, then pulled out various cleaning tools, including an apron and other items, from the pile of clutter.

"...You're surprisingly well-equipped."

"Better safe than sorry!"

Gold Legend helped Oguri Cap tie on the apron and put on a cap, then got dressed herself.

"Let's start with those boxes."

Oguri Cap pointed to the cardboard boxes stacked in the corner.

"No problem!"

Gold Legend was full of enthusiasm.

"Mmm, what are these?"

Opening the first box, Oguri Cap's expression immediately turned into a question mark face.

"Oh, those are for models. I bought quite a few, but I haven't had time to assemble them, so they're just piled up there."

Gold Legend glanced over and explained.

"You really like this, Gundam?"

Although Oguri Cap didn't know much about these things, this stuff was a national phenomenon, so she knew a little about it.

"Not really, I've only watched a few episodes of the anime. I bought them because I think they look cool, and assembling them must feel very rewarding, plus I can show them off online (whispering). But don't worry, they're all genuine!"

"That's not the issue of whether they're genuine or not."

Oguri Cap was momentarily speechless.

"Let's leave that box for now. I bought a display cabinet; I'll assemble them when it arrives, and then put them on display."

"Alright."

Putting this box aside, Oguri Cap opened the second box.

"These are... discs?"

"What? They were there?"

Gold Legend immediately rushed over.

"What are these?"

"Game discs and cartridges! I thought I accidentally lost them!"

Oguri Cap tilted her head, looking at Gold Legend curiously.

"So Legend likes video games?"

"Otaku can't live without games, just like the West can't live without Jerusalem, and the 3D zone can't live without Tifa!"

"I don't understand."

"...It's like Oguri Cap can't go without eating."

"?"

Oguri Cap fully understood.

Gold Legend ran to the side, found a storage box, carefully wiped the discs and cartridges clean, and placed them inside.

Oguri Cap couldn't understand Legend's actions, so she opened the next box.

"These are... dolls?"

Inside the box were small individual boxes, containing doll-like figures.

"My figures! When did these arrive?"

"What are these?"

Oguri Cap, who usually only saw plush toys, looked like Liu Grandma visiting the Grand View Garden.

"They are Uma Musume figures! I specifically commissioned them. Ah, don't worry, I've obtained authorization."

I begged the President for a long time to get the copyright, and I also went to ask for authorization individually for each one.

As for how much money it cost? That's not important!

"Now that you mention it, Legend, you did ask me back in June."

Oguri Cap nodded.

"I've wanted to do this for ages. Sure, a lot of the figurines aren't ready yet—some of the girls haven't even debuted—but I'm not giving up! The goal is the full collection!"

Gold Legend cleared the display cabinet she'd prepared long ago, opened the boxes, and gently set each figure in place.

Oguri Cap opened the next crate.

"My clothes!"

Gold Legend stowed the clothes in the wardrobe.

Next box.

"My merch!"

Another.

"My 3090!"

...You're actually pretty good at organizing.

Watching Gold Legend's swift movements, Oguri Cap bit back a comment.

That's Tama's job!

Silently, Oguri Cap opened the next carton. After flattening the empties, she picked up her cleaning tools.

"Cleaner than I expected."

With the clutter gone, the room looked almost pristine.

Oguri Cap ran a finger along the windowsill—no dust.

"Of course. Dust is the sworn enemy of collectibles and electronics. I tidy every single day."

Never underestimate an otaku's love!

Feather duster in hand, Gold Legend puffed out her chest proudly.

"Heh."

Oguri Cap gave a soft laugh at the proud display and kept cleaning.

There wasn't much left to do, but thorough was thorough.

Oguri Cap was getting serious!

"Let's go!"

Drumbeat of victory!

..."I didn't know a room could sparkle."

Staring at the dorm now gleaming like a 2-D fantasy, Gold Legend deadpanned.

She even waxed the floor!

"So, how is it, Legend?"

Oguri Cap waited, a hint of hope in her tone.

"...Amazing!"

Gold Legend flashed a thumbs-up.

"Glad to hear it."

Oguri Cap smiled.

"Grr~"

"...I'm starving."

The dagger behind the map.

"Let's eat—my treat!"

But Gold Legend had seen this move plenty of times. Since waking in this world, almost every public holiday outside summer camp had been spent with Oguri Cap.

"Yeah! Thanks—love you the most, Legend!"

Oguri Cap was fired up!

"Sure, sure—love you too, Oguri."

Gold Legend didn't even blink; she was used to Oguri Cap's feed-me-or-die attitude.

"Hey, Oguri."

"Hmm?"

"Welcome back."

"I'm home."

Later, the two enjoyed a long, happy dinner.
