Chapter 191 - Chapter 191 - The Most Depressing Episode

Neither Su Yan nor Dimensional Pictures' movements and undercurrents this week were known to the fans.

All their attention was focused on tonight's episode six of 'Puella Magi Madoka Magica'.

What would become of Sayaka, the most tragic character in the series?

Would her self-destructive crusade against witches lead her to follow in Mami Tomoe's footsteps in this very episode?

At eight in the evening, the opening theme of 'Puella Magi Madoka Magica' began to play.

Song Jingshuang switched off the living room lights, looking somewhat speechless at the cheerful opening song.

She had been tricked in by that very theme song.

And then Su Yan stopped pretending in episode two.

Mami Tomoe's decapitation scene had slammed every viewer back into reality.

After the opening ended, the screen turned dark and oppressive.

Picking up from the previous episode, Homura Akemi—so that Madoka wouldn't witness Sayaka's complete collapse and eventual death—chose what she believed was the smarter method: eliminate Sayaka somewhere Madoka couldn't see.

This plot development made Song Jingshuang's blood pressure spike.

But at the crucial moment, it was Kyoko Sakura who appeared and saved Sayaka.

["Could this show be setting up Kyoko Sakura and Sayaka as a CP?"] Song Jingshuang muttered, increasingly drawn to their dynamic.

From initial hostility to mutual sympathy after learning the truth about magical girls—

And now, Kyoko is even risking her life to fight Homura to save her.

If that wasn't love, what was?

Sayaka, hurry up and forget Kamijo Kyosuke—that scumbag played by Su Yan.

Look at Kyoko right beside you!

You're both magical girls. You're not even human anymore. Even if you used to be girls, what's wrong with two soul gems falling in love?

The chaotic thoughts of a third-year high school girl hadn't even settled when the story plunged back into despair.

On a subway train, Sayaka overheard two scumbags bragging about how they toyed with naïve girls' feelings—making them sacrifice everything, then ruthlessly discarding them while laughing about it.

Not entirely the same—but Sayaka immediately thought of herself and Kamijo Kyosuke.

Though he wasn't exactly at fault, despair filled her eyes.

Her gaze turned icy as she stared at the two men.

Meanwhile, Kyubey continued tirelessly tempting Madoka.

If you're worried about your friend, then make a wish.

With Madoka's potential, her wish could surely restore Sayaka from a magical girl back to a normal human.

["Shut up, shameless thief! Kyubey, I swear—just die already!"] Song Jingshuang fumed the moment the rabbit appeared.

"Is that wish worth offering your soul for?" Kyubey asked, its pale red pupils fixed on Madoka.

"If it's for Sayaka… then yes!" Madoka replied softly, timid but resolute.

No, don't!

Saving someone else's tragedy by turning yourself into a tragedy—wasn't that just repeating Sayaka's path?

Fortunately, Song Jingshuang's silent prayers were answered.

Just as Madoka was about to make her wish, Homura's bullets riddled Kyubey's body.

But almost immediately, another identical Kyubey appeared.

Song Jingshuang stared, dumbfounded.

Only then did she understand—

Kyubey wasn't a single being. It was like a cloned organism. A whole identical species.

["No matter what… that was beautiful!"] she exhaled deeply.

The scene of Kyubey being shot full of holes was the most satisfying moment in the entire series.

Though Homura's tearful accusation—that Madoka should think more about herself—left Song Jingshuang puzzled.

Why did Homura care about Madoka so much?

Had they known each other before?

She had only transferred in a week or two ago. Why did she act like they were friends torn apart by life and death?

Then came the conversation between the new Kyubey and Homura.

"You're not from this timeline, are you?"

That single line made Song Jingshuang's brain tremble.

If this had appeared in someone else's work, she might not have caught it.

But as an old fan of Su Yan, she immediately understood the hint.

Because in his earlier work, "An Ancient Love Song', the male lead had met the female lead from another timeline.

Could it be—

Was Homura like that? Someone who had traveled back through time?

Maybe not centuries ahead—but judging by how much she cared for Madoka…

Could she be Madoka's future daughter? Traveling back to prevent her mother's tragic fate as a magical girl?

Song Jingshuang's imagination ran wild.

The scene shifted.

In a darkened space, Kyoko found a despondent Sayaka.

"What's with you? This isn't like you at all!" Kyoko said.

"I just feel like nothing matters anymore. What was I cherishing? What was I protecting? I can't even tell anymore."

Sayaka took out her Soul Gem.

The blue crystal was nearly engulfed in black miasma.

She had deliberately avoided purifying it, allowing the corruption to spread.

Music swelled as Sayaka spoke calmly.

"Hope and despair balance out to zero. I understand that now. I did save many people… but I also accumulated equal amounts of resentment and jealousy. And I hurt the friend who mattered most."

Tears streamed down her face as she looked at the red-haired girl beside her.

Song Jingshuang nearly broke down watching this.

Forget Kamijo Kyosuke!

Just be happy!

"To pray for someone's happiness… means cursing someone else in equal measure. That's how we magical girls are built, right?"

A tear fell onto her Soul Gem. Sayaka smiled—a look of relief and release.

"I'm such an idiot."

A black barrier erupted. The space twisted. A massive, monstrous silhouette emerged.

Kyoko was blasted away.

"In this country, girls who are still growing are called "young maidens."

Then you, who will eventually become witches… should indeed be called magical girls."

What?

Song Jingshuang stared blankly.

The biggest setting reveal of the series.

And not just her—countless viewers across the Xia Nation were stunned.

Learning that magical girls exchanged their souls for wishes was already devastating.

And now—

The witches they fought were the twisted souls of magical girls consumed by despair?

Damn it.

So Kyubey and its kind create magical girls, incubate witches, then send other magical girls to hunt them—an endless cycle of girls killing girls?

Song Jingshuang was furious.

What the hell was this?

If Kyubey didn't die, there was no justice in heaven.

From beginning to end, there was only one true villain—Kyubey.

Madoka, Kyoko, and Homura arrived at the scene and saw the witch born from Sayaka. But overwhelmed by shock, they were forced into strategic retreat.

Then came a segment of cold scientific exposition.

Kyubey was an alien, harvesting the energy of girls' despair to save the universe—thus manufacturing witches and magical girls on Earth.

And even at the end, it continued tempting Madoka.

Song Jingshuang laughed.

A laugh of anger.

Next, having learned the truth yet overcoming her inner turmoil, Kyoko—alongside Madoka—headed toward the barrier of the mermaid witch Sayaka had become.

They wanted to save her.

To pull her back from witchhood into human form.

Song Jingshuang's nose stung.

["You really know how to do this, you old thief… The setting is so cruel, yet you created Kyoko."]

Once an enemy—now determined to save Sayaka.

Meanwhile, Sayaka's former best friend, Hitomi Shizuki, was busy contemplating romance.

The irony cut deep.

At the end of episode six, Madoka and Kyoko entered the witch's barrier.

Facing that enormous, grotesque, malevolent monster—

"Sayaka, do you still remember my name?"

Kyoko stood at the front. Madoka called out from behind, hoping to awaken her.

But—

Nothing.

She was now nothing more than a killing machine.

Kyoko fought until she was battered and near her limit. Madoka's cries meant nothing.

Song Jingshuang's heart grew heavier.

Kyoko smiled faintly in self-mockery.

This wasn't good.

Su Yan, what are you doing?

"Sayaka, didn't you say you believed? That this power could make people happy?" Kyoko shouted.

But in the end—

The outcome became the one Song Jingshuang feared most.

Kyoko exhausted herself.

Homura rescued the unconscious Madoka.

Kyoko stared at the witch before her—death reflected in her eyes.

She knelt, pulling out her Soul Gem.

"Go. Now."

She turned her back to Homura, covering their retreat.

Song Jingshuang's chest ached.

"Don't worry, Sayaka. Being alone is lonely, right? So…"

Memories of their time together flashed through Kyoko's mind.

From enemies to mutual understanding.

Both had made wishes for others.

Both had been cornered by reality.

"I'll be with you, Sayaka." Kyoko said gently.

A massive magical spear rose into the air. Standing atop it, Kyoko aimed at the towering mermaid witch. Power gathered.

The visual effects were at full force.

The spear first pierced Kyoko's own Soul Gem—ensuring she wouldn't become a witch herself—

Then it pierced the witch that Sayaka had become.

This strike was their shared death.

Light erupted. Kyoko's serene smile. The witch's barrier is dissolving.

Episode six of 'Puella Magi Madoka Magica' came to an end.

The ending theme played—a newly changed ED.

Its cheerful melody contrasted cruelly with the tragedy that had just unfolded.

And it was sung together by the actresses Sayaka and Kyoko.

Across the Xia Nation, tens of millions of viewers fell into silence.

Heartache. Depression. Sorrow.

And then—anger.

Song Jingshuang held it in as long as she could.

But in the end, her nose burned, and tears fell.

Su Yan… are you even human for writing this?
