Chapter 20 - Chapter - 19

The day had finally arrived. The sky over Musutafu was a clear, sky blue, as if the universe was oblivious to the fact that thousands of teenagers were currently on the verge of a collective nervous breakdown.

Why do you ask?

Well, today's the entrance exam for U.A. High School. The fortress of dreams. wet dream of every hero aspirant. Place that produced Japan's No. 1 hero ALLLLL M- "ALL RIGHT BITCHESSSSSSS HERE WE AREEE" shouted one obnoxious girl in her mind

RIKO POV

I stood at the base of the massive concrete gates, squinting up at the architecture. It was even more imposing in person. I could feel a massive grin forming on my face. Seeing it in real life and anime was a different experience, 9/10 would recommend. Beside me, Izuku was vibrating so hard I thought he might actually phase through the pavement.

"I-I'm here. I'm actually here," he stammered, his face a pale shade of green. "My heart is going to explode, Riko-chan. I can feel it in my ears."

"Whoa, hold on, buddy, gather your shit together", I said, leaning back and stretching my arms. My bones gave a series of audible pops. "Just remember the training. And for the love of God, watch your feet."

"Move it, Deku! Get out of my way before I set you on fire!"

Bakugo stomped past us, his aura radiating enough heat to melt the sidewalk. He didn't stop, but he shot a sharp, sideways glance at me. It wasn't an insult; it was a check. He was making sure I hadn't bailed at the last second.

"Don't trip on your own ego, Sparky!" I called out.

"DIE!" he barked back, not even looking over his shoulder.

I turned back to Izuku, ready to give him a pep talk, when, true to canon his foot caught on the edge of the pavement. He went flying, his arms flailing like a windmill. I reached out to grab his collar, but a hand beat me to it.

A girl with shoulder-length brown hair and a permanent blush had caught him with a touch (ahem, slapped the shite outta his arse). Izuku hovered in the air, gravity-defying and utterly mortified.

"Are you okay?" she asked, her voice bubbly. "It's a bad omen to trip, right?"

I watched the interaction with a small smirk. Uraraka. The plot is proceeding as scheduled. I gave her a polite nod as she set a blushing, stammering Izuku back on his feet.

"Thanks for the save," I said. "He's got a lot on his mind."

"Oh, it's no problem! Good luck to both of you!" she chirped, heading inside.

I grabbed Izuku by the back of his tracksuit and started hauling him toward the entrance. "Ara, ara ma Romeo fallin for a girl so quick. Les, go, we have a written exam to fail."

THIRD PERSON POV

The written exam was a blur of high-level mathematics, ethics, and English. For Riko, it was a bizarre experience 2/10; she wouldn't recommend it, until you are a devil.

Half the questions felt like she had personally offended the teacher, making this paper, while the other half of the math really made her question her choices.

After hours of scratching pens and silent tension, the examinees were moved to the massive Orientation Hall.

The lights dimmed, and a spotlight slammed onto the center stage.

"WHAT'S UP, U.A. CANDIDATES?!"

Present Mic's voice blasted through the speakers, hitting Riko like a physical wave. She winced, rubbing her ears. Man, the anime didn't do the decibels justice. This guy is a walking noise complaint.

"EVERYBODY SAY HEYYYY!"

(author - Heyyy)

Silence. Absolute, soul-crushing silence from the crowd of terrified teenagers. (author, how I feel when there aren't enough comments, so comment)

"Keeping it mellow, huh? That's fine!" Mic shouted, undeterred. He launched into the explanation of the practical exam, the four types of faux villains, the point system, and the "Arena" assignments.

Riko looked down at her card. Battle Center F. She glanced over at Izuku. He had Center B. Bakugo, too, was in a different sector.

"Tch. Lucky for you, Fuse-box," Bakugo whispered from a few seats away. "If we were in the same area, there wouldn't be any robots left for you to scrap."

"I'm more worried about the robots," Riko whispered back. "I'm not sure they're insured for what I'm about to do to them."

Suddenly, a tall, stiff student with glasses stood up, pointing a rigid finger......at Izuku, who was mumbling to himself.

"You there! The one with the curly hair!" Tenya Iida barked. "Your constant muttering is a distraction! If you aren't taking this seriously, then leave at once!"

Izuku turned bright red, covering his mouth.

Riko didn't move. She just raised an eyebrow, looking Iida up and down. "Relax, Four-Eyes. . Maybe if you unclenched a little, you wouldn't be so high-strung. It's bad for the blood pressure."

Iida sputtered, his arm chopping the air like a runaway piston, before Present Mic cut him off to explain the 'Zero Pointer.'
