Chapter 6 - The chase

Lena pesterd Alex from his attitude of have it your way to I will play this game with you and she knew she is going to win.

Alex's eyes seemed to bore into Lena's soul as he turned to face her. The air was thick with tension, and for a moment, it felt like time had come to a standstill. Lena's heart was racing, her mind whirling with possibilities.

"You're really something, Lena," Alex said finally, his voice low and rough. "You don't give up, do you?"

Lena's smile was her only response. She knew she had him cornered.

Alex sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Fine. You want to play this game? Let's play."

Lena's eyes lit up with excitement. This was what she had been waiting for.

"But don't say I didn't warn you," Alex added, his eyes glinting with a hint of danger.

Lena's grin only grew wider. She was ready for whatever he had in store for her.

As they stood there, the world around them melted away. It was just the two of them, locked in a silent battle of wills.

And then, without warning, Alex turned and walked away, leaving Lena standing there, her heart pounding in her chest.

She watched him go, a mix of emotions swirling inside her. Excitement, anticipation, and a hint of trepidation.

What had she just gotten herself into?

Lena took a deep breath, her mind racing with possibilities. She knew she had to be careful, but she couldn't help the way she felt.

She was going to get Alex, no matter what it took.

As she turned to walk away, she felt a presence behind her. Alex's voice whispered in her ear, "You have no idea what you're getting into, Lena."

Lena's heart skipped a beat as she turned to face him. But he was already gone, vanished into the crowd.

She smiled to herself, her mind racing with possibilities. The game was on, and she was ready to play.

Lena's days turned into a blur of classes, studying, and stalking Alex. She couldn't help it - she was drawn to him. She watched him from afar, learning his routine, his favorite spots on campus, and the way he smiled when he thought no one was looking.

But Alex remained elusive, always keeping her at arm's length. He would catch her staring and raise an eyebrow, but he never approached her.

Lena was determined to break through his defenses. She started leaving him small gifts - a book she thought he'd like, a coffee with a note saying "for a tough morning". But he never acknowledged them.

One day, she decided to take a different approach. She waited outside his lecture hall, and as he walked out, she fell into step beside him.

"Alex, can I talk to you for a minute?" she asked, trying to sound casual.

He glanced at her, his expression unreadable. "What do you want, Lena?"

Lena took a deep breath. "I want to know why you're avoiding me. I've been trying to get your attention for weeks."

Alex stopped walking and turned to face her. "Lena, are you nuts, why should I do so? For your information I'm not avoiding you. I just don't think we have anything to talk about."

Lena's heart sank, but she refused to give up.

"Fine," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'll leave you alone. But just know that I'll be waiting."

Alex's eyes flickered, and for a moment, Lena thought she saw a spark of interest. But then he turned and walked away, leaving her standing alone in the hallway.

Lena took a deep breath, her mind racing with possibilities. She knew she had to be careful, but she couldn't help the way she felt.

She was going to get Alex, no matter what it took.

As she walked away, she felt a sense of determination wash over her. She was going to break through his defenses, no matter what it took.

And then, she would make him hers.

Lena decided to find ways to woo Alex. Step one the bold move, she practised, researched and lastly she became bold to actually do it.

She dolled up maturely, there at the cafeteria she saw him, Alex, he sat giving of "don't come near " vibes but she does not give a fuck. In a rogue like manner, she moved close to Alex and inhaled his manly mint scent, "hello handsome, you look half Kenyan half mine, I have started a band called husband mind if you join and I promise it will only be me and you" she finished with a sweet smile.

Suddenly the air became tense and Lena could swear she saw malice flash through Alex eyes. Lena's smile began to crack due to the silent atmosphere in the whole field with Alex cold eyes looking at her like an X-ray.

Suddenly Alex stood up, he gives Lena a blank look and he is out of there, talking about a major brush-off.

Lena stood there stunned. Just like that he left, with no reply, and that makes her more determined, she is not going to let him get away that easy.

Lena's bold move didn't seem to faze Alex, who walked away without a word. She stood there, a mix of surprise and determination on her face. She hadn't expected him to be so cold, but she wasn't one to give up easily.

She shrugged, a sly grin spreading across her face. "Guess I'll just have to try harder," she said to herself.

Lena decided to regroup and think of a new plan. She knew Alex was a bit of a mystery, but she was determined to crack the code.

As she walked away, she spotted Caren sitting on a bench, watching her with a curious expression.

"Hey, what's up?" Caren asked, nodding towards the direction Alex had gone. "How did it go?"

Lena plopped down beside her, rolling her eyes. "He brushed me off like I was dust."

Caren chuckled. "Tough luck, girl. But I have to say, that was a pretty bold move, even for you."

Lena grinned, her blue braids bouncing. "Hey, when you like someone, you gotta go for it, right?"

Caren nodded, a thoughtful look on her face. "True that. But maybe you should try a different approach? You know, something a bit more... subtle."

Lena's eyes lit up with interest. "Subtle? What's that gonna do?"

Caren shrugged. "Well, Alex doesn't seem like the type to respond to bold moves. Maybe he needs someone to show him they're interested in a more... understated way."

Lena tapped her chin, considering Caren's words. "Hmm, you might be onto something there. Okay, new plan. What's the most subtle way to woo someone?"

Caren laughed. "Girl, you're anything but subtle. But I think I can help you with that."

Lena's eyes lit up with a mischievous glare. "Sickly one? You mean play the damsel in distress?"

Caren nodded, a sly grin spreading across her face. "Yeah, something like that. Alex seems like the type to want to play the hero."

Lena's face scratched in disgust. "Ugh, I'm not sure I can pull off the damsel thing. I'm more of a 'take me as I am' kinda girl."

Caren chuckled. "I know, I know. But hear me out. You fake getting sick, and Alex, being the 'hero' he is, will probably try to take care of you."

Lena's expression turned thoughtful, her blue braids swaying as she nodded. "Hmm, that's not a bad plan. But what if he doesn't fall for it?"

Caren shrugged. "Then we try something else. But if he does, you've got him hooked."

Lena grinned, a plan forming in her mind. "Alright, let's do it. But if I end up with a thermometer shoved in my mouth, I'm blaming you."

Caren laughed. "Deal! Now, how are you gonna 'get sick'?"

Lena tapped her chin, a sly look on her face. "Leave that to me..."

The next day, Lena transformed into a sick beuty, looking like she just stepped out of a drama movie. The make up was on point and she was about to perform her second plan.

Lena 'collapsed' in the cafeteria, looking pale and frail . Alex was there, and his eyes narrowed as he rushed to her side.

"Lena, what's wrong?" he asked, his voice laced with something, concern, maybe.

Lena fluttered her eyelashes, trying to look as weak as possible. "I... I don't know... felt dizzy..."

Alex's expression turned worried, and he scooped her up in his arms. "I'll take you to the health center."

Lena's heart skipped a beat as she wrapped her arms around his neck, playing it cool.

"No...it's not medical issue it's just that my heart had stopped beating but when you touched me I could feel it returning to normal." She paused trying to find the correct way to tell him "I have a suggestion, let's be together for life and promise never to let go of my hand ?"

Alex's eyes widened in surprise as Lena's words hit him like a tidal wave. He hadn't expected her to be so... dramatic. The cafeteria fell silent, students staring at the unfolding drama.

For a moment, Alex looked like he'd been punched in the gut. His expression softened, and Lena saw a flicker of... something. Surprise? She wasn't sure, but it was enough to make her heart skip a beat.

Alex's voice was low and husky when he spoke. "Lena, what's going on? Are you okay?"

Lena's eyelashes fluttered, her voice barely above a whisper. "I... I think I need you."

The words hung in the air, and for a split second, it felt like Alex was the only one who existed. He looked like he was about to say something, but then his mask slipped back into place.

"Lena, you're not well. Let me take you to the health center," he said, his tone firm but gentle.

Lena's grip on his arm tightened. "No... don't leave me. Please."

Alex's eyes searched hers, and for a moment, Lena thought she'd seen a crack in his armor. But he pulled away, gently but his reply was not gentle at all.

"Respect yourself Lena" with a snort he left.

Lena's face fell, but she knew she wasn't giving up. Not yet.

As Alex walked away, Caren appeared at her side, a mixture of concern and amusement on her face. "Girl, he is not simple and you seem to be playing with fire"

Lena grinned weakly. "It's working, though."

Caren chuckled. "Oh, it's definitely working. But be careful, Lena. You might get burned."

Lena's eyes followed Alex as he walked away. "I can handle it."

Alex's snort was like a slap to the face, and Lena felt a sting from the rejection. She stood there, frozen, as he walked away without looking back. The cafeteria erupted into whispers and snickered laughter, and Lena's face burned with embarrassion.

But she wasn't one to give up easily. She took a deep breath, squared her shoulders, and followed him. This time, she wasn't going to let him brush her off without a fight.

She caught up to him in the hallway, her blue braids bouncing with each step. "Alex, wait!" she called out, her voice firm.

He stopped, turning to face her with an unreadable expression. "What, Lena?"

Lena's eyes locked onto his, a spark of determination igniting within her. "I said I need you. And I mean it."

Alex's gaze was cold, his voice dismissive. "You don't know what you need, Lena."

Lena's smile was sly. "Oh, I think I do. And I think you do too."

The air was thick with tension as they stood there, locked in a silent battle of wills. Alex's eyes narrowed, and for a moment, Lena thought she'd pushed him too far.

But then he turned and walked away, leaving her standing alone in the hallway.

Lena's grin never faltered. She knew she'd gotten under his skin.

As she turned to leave, her phone buzzed with a message from an unknown number "As a reminder don't love too much." And as usual she dismissed them and how can love be measured?
