Chapter 2 - Orbit

All of a sudden, Altair would have tall women standing over her. She was way too close to my face.

Luna : "Hi, Altair . Could I have your phone number?"

Altair : "What????"

Altair was in complete confusion.

Luna would stare a little bit more at Altair . But she would notice something on his phone.

Luna : "Sorry, that was a bit too quick. I'm Luna ; it's nice to meet you."

She would put her hand out for Altair to shake.

Altair : "Yeah, I'm Altair . Nice to meet you."

"I know."

He would then shake her hand. She would smile back at him.

"Oh, okay, so..."

Before he could finish his sentence, he would get cut off.

"So, could I have your number?"

Everyone is staring. I really hate this.

"Yeah, sure, um, here is my phone number."

Why does she want my number? Could it be...?

Altair could only think the worst, but he tried to stop thinking about it.

All he could hear is laughing in his mind.

???: "Hahahahahahahahaha! Did he really think you would be his friend?"

???: "Hahahahahahahahaha! I know, what a dumb loser. Who would ever want to hang out with someone like him?"

???: "Like, what's his deal? Who does he think he is?"

"Hahahahahahahahaha!"

"Hahahahahahahahaha!"

All Altair could hear were the loud laughing noises as they grew louder.

"HaHAHAHAhaAHAHAHA!"

"Hey, Alt ."

And louder.

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!"

"HEY, ALT !"

And louder.

"HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH!"

"ALT!"

Altair would zone back in.

Altair : "Oh, sorry."

Luna : "Here is your phone back."

Altair would grab his phone back.

Luna : "Are you okay, Altair ? You zoned out there a bit."

Altair : "Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks for my phone number."

All of a sudden, a loud bell goes off.

RING RING RING RING RING RING RING RING RING RING RING

Luna : "Oh, sorry about that. Looks like I made you late. Well, better run to class. See you later."

Later...?

Altair thought to himself.

Altair : "Okay, bye."

Maybe I should just block her number. I feel bad; she seems nice, but...

Altair couldn't understand why someone of her status would ask for his number.

At least, he couldn't think of anything good.

Wait, did she call me Alt ?

I must be hearing stuff again...

Altair and Luna would run to opposite sides.

But Luna would turn her head around for a brief second and she would scream across to Altair who was running the other way,

"THANKS, ALT !"

Altair would look back for a brief second. He could see her beautiful blonde hair flowing through the wind and her crystal blue eyes looking into him.

What?

Altair would keep running forward.

As Luna and her friends ran:

Jessica : "Hey, not to sound like an asshole, but why did you ask for his number?"

Claire : "Yeah, it seems like we're not the only ones confused; everyone was too."

Jessica : "Yeah, and why him out of all people? Just..."

Before the other girl could finish her sentence,

Luna : "Stop."

Those crystal blue eyes of hers would darken.

Luna would stop moving and, with her hands, make a big X with her arms.

Luna : "Stop."

Luna : "And why? Why not?"

The other two girls stood there in disarray.

"Sorry."

Both of the girls would apologize.

Luna would start walking to her class with her friends closely behind her.

"Why can't people just leave him alone?"

She would whisper,

"His playlist..."

The shadows and wind grew thicker and darker around her.

Crunch, crunch.

A man eating fruit.

"These black things are always so juicy."

The man watches and watches.

The man sees and hears and feels, as he crunches away on his darker-to-black fruit, and he continues watching...

Altair : "Sorry, Professor, I'm late."

The laid-back professor would speak.

His name was Mr. Still .

He had spiky blue hair, was wearing a suit and a cyan tie with some black shoes and gray eyes, had his feet on the desk, and was reading some documents.

Mr. Still : "It's fine. I'm just happy you have all your homework and necessary paperwork filled out, or it would have been a big headache for me to get you transferred into such a full class."

Altair : "Are you sure it's going to be fine? I know this class was preparing me, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to enter a class full of Source users, especially with so many people."

Mr. Still : "It's fine. Like I told you, if you have any trouble, contact me with that device."

The device he had was a white magical cube that looked like an ice cube.

Mr. Still : "Just say my name and the device will automatically react and summon me. Don't be afraid to use it anytime."

Altair : "Thanks, Mr. Still . I'm worried, with such powerful people..."

Mr. Still chuckled.

Mr. Still : "Don't worry about anything. Yes, those people can use a bit of Source, but only a small amount. They're still in their 'slumber state' and haven't awakened any of their gates."

Altair : "Slumber state? Gates?"

Altair had no clue what Mr. Still was talking about.

Mr. Still : "Don't worry. In fact, today's lesson—I made sure you caught up to all the work in the class—is the first real class of the semester, and it talks all about Source and everything that comes with it."

Mr. Still : "There are four main teachers that teach Source, and you will be in one of their classes."

Altair : "I see. Thanks, Mr. Still ."

Mr. Still : "Remember, you're a special case. It's not like you have no Source powers at all, but it seems disabled for the time being. Even though you awoke your Source energy so early, it's incredible. Most people learn to use it while they're 17 and 18, in their 3rd and 4th year in this academy."

Altair thought to himself,

"I'm in my 3rd year of high school and I'm 17. I only transferred two weeks ago."

Mr. Still : "Don't worry, the class is full of 3rd and 4th years, around 17–18. All Source classes are. We will definitely find a way to cure you. Plus, it's not like you're like the 'others'."

Altair : "Yeah..."

Even though Altair isolates himself from so much of the world, he even knows what the "others" are.

The Sourceless!

At birth, they are executed at death.

That's one of the cruelties of reality Altair had to accept.

Altair would finally start walking back to class.

He would walk to the class; it was huge, about 200 people, with six different rows that went higher and higher, and the teacher right there staring at him.

"Oh shit, I walked in at a bad time, didn't I? Everyone is staring at me..."

But as he looked around the classroom, he couldn't help but notice those crystal blue eyes again.
