Chapter 16 - Chapter 13.5 Supporting Characters Reference (1)

Captain Edrin Ward

Function: Oathbound Vanguard

Current Standing: High Standing Wayfarer (bordering Exalted Standing)

Years Active: 9 years

Affiliation: Capital-aligned, serving under a Royal of one of Aetherfall's kingdoms

Function Overview

An Oathbound Vanguard is not a simple knight.

This function exists for those who specialize in holding the line when collapse is inevitable. They are not duelists and not berserkers. Their role is to stabilize chaos, protect others, and make impossible survival calls under pressure.

They are trained to decide who lives, not how everyone lives.

Core Passive Traits:

Oathbound Resolve

Edrin's mental state resists panic, fear pressure, and morale collapse. Divine presence, monstrous terror, and battlefield despair have reduced effect on him.

Anchor Presence

Allies near Edrin instinctively stabilize their movement and decision-making. They hesitate less, react faster, and hold formation more easily.

Damage Conversion (Partial)

A portion of incoming damage is redirected into stamina and structural strain rather than immediate injury, allowing him to stay standing longer than physically reasonable.

Active Skills:

Linebreaker Guard

Edrin can interpose himself perfectly between allies and lethal attacks, forcing threat focus onto himself. This is not taunt-based; it is positional dominance and timing mastery.

Last Stand Oath

When allies are endangered, Edrin's combat efficiency increases the closer he is to collapse. This is why he becomes most dangerous when wounded.

Shield of Consequence

A defensive maneuver that trades shield integrity and physical backlash for guaranteed survival of those behind him.

Combat Style

Deliberate, efficient, sacrificial when necessary.

Edrin does not waste motion, breath, or words.

Lyra

Function: Pathfinder Ranger

Current Standing: Mid–High Standing Initiate Wayfarer

Role: Scout, tracker, ranged pressure

Function Overview

A Pathfinder Ranger specializes in terrain control and threat anticipation, not raw damage. They are trained to read land the way others read maps.

Lyra does not fight monsters head-on. She decides where the monster is allowed to fight.

Core Passive Traits:

Environmental Reading

Lyra instinctively detects terrain disturbances, movement beneath ground, and unnatural patterns. This is how she identified sand worm activity early.

Silent Motion

Her movement generates minimal vibration and sound, crucial against vibration-sensitive creatures.

Predictive Awareness

She subconsciously tracks enemy motion patterns and adjusts position before danger becomes obvious.

Active Skills:

Marked Path

Lyra can designate safe movement routes that reduce ambush risk and environmental hazards for allies following her lead.

Pressure Shot

Her arrows are not always meant to kill. Some shots are timed and angled to force enemy repositioning.

Weakpoint Revelation

After sustained observation, Lyra can identify structural weaknesses in large creatures, even those with heavy armor.

Combat Style:

Mobile, precise, relentless.

Lyra bleeds before she retreats.

Tomas

Function: Field Stabilizer

Current Standing: Mid Standing Wayfarer

Role: Support, endurance control, survival logistics

Function Overview

A Field Stabilizer is not a healer. They keep people functional when healing is impossible.

Tomas's role is to make sure the team does not fall apart under physical and environmental stress.

Core Passive Traits:

Physical Regulation

Tomas can suppress shock, pain escalation, and stamina collapse in nearby allies. This does not remove injury; it delays consequences.

Environmental Buffering

He reduces the severity of heat, cold, vibration, and pressure effects within his operational radius.

Crisis Endurance

Tomas's own stamina depletes slower when others are in worse condition. The more desperate the situation, the longer he can function.

Active Skills:

Ground Anchor

Tomas establishes stability zones that prevent knockback, sinkholes, and sudden terrain failure from immediately overwhelming allies.

Force Redistribution

Incoming impacts are partially redirected into surrounding terrain, preventing lethal spikes in damage.

Vital Delay

He can temporarily halt worsening injuries, buying critical time. Once the effect ends, consequences return.

Combat Style

Non-lethal, exhausting, indispensable.

If Tomas collapses, the team collapses.
