Chapter 72 - Chapter 72: Declaration of War

Olivia ripped Memaru from Ratella's arms rubbing him against her face, a newfound joy spreading over her face. Her earlier sorrow completely banished from her mind, the serene purrs smoothing her inner turmoil.

"You accepted her offer then?"

"Yeah, we are now proud captains of the Luminous Wardens. Did you not want me to?"

"No, it'll provide us opportunities to recruit strong warriors to our cause."

"You want to recruit people?"

"Well of course, you can't have a kingdom without any subjects and weak devils don't count as subjects. We need strong loyal people who follow our line of thought and if they don't we'll just twist it until it suits us."

"Angels and Devils?"

"Yeah. It doesn't matter as long as you join us willingly. I don't see any problems with having angel companions."

"We will have to find some more forsaken cubs for Memaru."

Memaru yelped excitedly at the promise of new friends, his purrs growing louder and louder.

"That'll be a hard task but we can always look around Faravos. Most stronger and sentient Forsaken slumber in their deserts of the Realm of War and Famine."

"Forsakens like Memaru are rare then? I was quite lucky then to find him on my first encounter with one."

"That you were, I would have never guessed you're first encounter to be with a sentient one let alone a peaceful forsaken only wishing for their child's safety. Memaru truly is a diamond in the rough."

The two walked to the headquarters of the Luminous Wardens, he caught Olivia up on all she missed about the Wardens. Detailing their responsibilities with their personal unit of elites.

Before the two passed the third gate they bought some bread some a merchant posed near the gate. They were lucky to get their hands on it, new food was rare and usually sold out in a matter of seconds.

They munched on it, throwing some to Memaru passing through the gate, the same spotlight from the Star of Light confirming their identities before sending a signal to the gate guards.

From the houses around the layer citadel it was no surprise there were over 700,000 soldiers confined within protecting it until their last breath.

"Julius Croft is joining us? Such an odd man but his strength could be useful if we run into more than three Heralds or Sins. He's quite strong with more experience and training he'll rival a lower class Dominion."

"Mhm. His power surprised me when he first hit me. Although he can be predictable, the fighting style he showed at the end should have been his opener."

"How come you let him hit you so much?"

"At first I just underestimated him and his speed caught me off guard, not allowing me to counter effectively. I was gauging his strength to see if he could be useful as an ally and his personality intrigued me so I didn't push myself much."

"That last move of yours, did you just come up with it or is it a practiced move? It was quite the sight, a true spectacle even to my eyes."

"It meant to be a lethal move to completely cleave an unexpecting opponent in half, ending the conflict swiftly. And I've used it before I killed Orion with it but I revived him so it wasn't a big deal."

Ratella rubbed the back of his head nervously, he still felt bad about killing the sentient armor. Mammon's panic when he saw the cleaved armor pulling on his heart string even to this day.

"Lethal? So you sharpened your wings and moved in a forward circular motion then?"

"Yeah. How did you even figure that out I didn't use my wings in my battle against Julius?"

"I'm a faster learner when it comes to techniques revolving Death, it is my whole purpose after all. I might use that trick of yours. It'll be even more effective for me and invisible wings. You're quite smart, I wouldn't have guessed."

"Oh, shut it. I look smart and you can't just steal someone's move without asking. Do you even know how to sharpen your wings?"

"Well of course. I can sharpen my wings, they are the perfect tools for catching an opponent off guard. No one actually expects someone to use their lifelines as weapons making it the perfect weapon."

"Yeah my master said something similar when she first taught me."

"Hopefully your master will join us eventually. Having the Radiances' Blade as an ally would boost both of our chances at achieving our goals."

"I hope so too. I'll allow you to use my spinning wing technique but you're not allowed to use my blind fighting style, that's all mine."

"Oh, I can't hear the melodies of blades so don't worry that's all yours. Only a select few of angels and devils have the ability to hear the voice of weapons."

"Yeah, I've heard about that from a couple of books. No one has actually discovered the secret behind the melodies of blades, it's still one big mystery."

Eventually they stood under the blinding tree of light emulating every inch of the citadel, not letting a single shadow creep into the citadel leaving any Aspect of Shadow wielder completely defenseless and powerless.

Even at night the presence of the Primordial Light is felt by every soldier of Ironstar. His everlasting presence casting hope and strength into the weak willed.

The tree of light had no such effect on Ratella, only inviting an all consuming anger to fill his mind at the reminder of the malicious God. Only Olivia's gentle touch on his shoulder stopped him from burning everything down that day.

The three caught sight of a grand building behind the tree decorated in the colours of the sun, a great assembly of uniformed soldiers marched around the building. They ignored the drills going on, walking past the questions of the superior officers walking into the main hall seeing Samael and Barion already inside awaiting their arrival.
