He wandered around the camp for a while, looking for Olivia and Memaru, searching the many misplaced, improvised buildings in the sea of white and brown tents, mainly used for sleeping and storage. He found an extensive arsenal and inspected the weapons for a couple of minutes before deeming them worthless. Nothing of pristine quality hides the river of mediocrity.
The smell of freshly baked bread eventually reached his nostrils, a chimney of steam coming from one of the buildings.
He sprinted inside absolutely famished, a ravenous hunger overcoming all sense in his body. The only thought is to consume all of the bread in its confines.
Inside, he found Olivia munching on a fresh loaf of bread. Her cheeks are full to the brim with delicious bread, looking like a squirrel. She wore a lovely smile as she wolfed down the bread, her cheeks growing scarlet at the taste alone.
A small portion of bread had been put into a small bowl for Memaru, and he wolfed it down, mimicking Olivia's behaviour.
The room was devoid of any other people. Only Olivia and Memaru were seated in the room. He plucked one of the loaves from the table, sitting down with Olivia and Memaru.
They said nothing to each other, munching on their respective loaves in silence. Memaru greeted Ratella, nestling itself into his lap, soon falling asleep after eating double its body weight.
Olivia finished her loaf but did not make any gesture to leave, waiting for Ratella to finish his own, following his lead and awaiting any question that could be directed her way.
"The commander said Gluttony is coming this way, so we're going to stay here for a while longer."
"Okay, but why kill Sins when you could just battle me outside a Kathoros-owned castle? That would bolster your reputation high enough to gain favour with everyone in Kathoros."
"I'd rather you stay with me as a friend and not be seen as an enemy by everyone on Kathoros. And you have Memaru to take care of, so that's no longer a possibility."
"Oh, okay then."
Olivia grabbed another loaf, munching on the end to cover the tinge of scarlet on her cheeks, disguising it as ecstasy from the delicious bread. The care he showed her was new to the woman who had only been seen as a tool for death. She expected to be a means to an end, accomplishing another scheme of Nuit's, like always, in the God's plans.
"I'd like to kill the Sin quickly. I'll just concentrate my murderous intent on Gluttony. It should at least paralyse him or kill him outright."
"No, you'll kill Memaru if you do that. He's too weak to handle a slight leak of intent. If you don't control it properly, you'll kill him."
"Hm, nevermind then. I have to warn you before I fight the Sin; I tend to toy with my prey when I'm fighting a weaker opponent. It's a nasty habit of mine. I'm sorry if I lose myself and take too long when killing the Sin."
"It's fine. I had a similar problem when I was adapting to my powers. You'll grow to control your bloodlust and intent in time, although it may take a couple of millennia. I'll protect Memaru from any stray attacks, so don't worry about it."
Memaru's face upturned at their conversation, jumping back up to the table searching for love from Olivia. She petted the cub carefully, the same smile growing on her face from earlier.
"He's here. I can sense a sinister aura entering the camp full of bloodlust. He seems to know where we are coming directly here," stated Olivia, inviting him to stretch his senses to the border of the camp, picking up on the looming bloodlust.
"Seems to be like a wild beast, considering the untamed bloodlust coming off him."
"Mhm, I detest all the Sins. They should be purged from Nuit's ranks; we have no use for their weakness anyway. The Horsemen are far superior to them."
"I suppose I see your point, but I'm quite fond of Sloth. The rest are weirdos if they are anything like Lust."
"Sloth is the only normalish one; the rest deserve death. I can tolerate laziness, but the rest just embody the rot infecting Devil and Angel kind."
Olivia had warmed up to him rather quickly; he hadn't suspected such a reaction from Liliana's report on her character.
She was nothing as her report suggested. Olivia was a kind and charming person, obviously detached from social interaction, but he saw no issue in that. Her charm resides in her quiet nature.
"Then we'll start with Gluttony, and then if the rest come across our path, they'll just have to die," declared Ratella, invoking a smile to run across her face, their line of thought similar to each other.
He had no love for the Sins, only a sliver of care for Sloth, but the others weren't so lucky, making their deaths unavoidable if they came across them.
"Very well, it's not like Nuit can punish us. We are her trump cards; she wouldn't deprive herself of her greatest powers."
Olivia chuckled at the thought of killing the things she had detested for aeons, her mischievous and cruel side coming out in full at the opportunity to kill the Sins.
"You're quite devious, I would have never guessed."
"I'm the first Devil after all. You didn't expect me to have even an ounce of cruelty just because of my appearance. Quite foolish of you."
"Foolish indeed."
Olivia's rant about the Sins was soon quieted, reducing the room back into silence, rubbing the back of Memaru's head. Gluttony bordering on the building's entrance, heavy footsteps echoing throughout the building.
He was quite shocked by Olivia's declaration; he hadn't expected such words coming from the first Devil. Although when he thought more about it in the silence, it became apparent that a progenitor would want only pure and strong species in her race. Not tainted by unnecessary feelings such as Lust or Gluttony.
