Chapter 53 - Chapter 53: Tales of A Forsaken

"It's odd you don't know, considering their everlasting irritating presence in disrupting the war efforts for both Kathoros and Faravos. Anyway, they are mindless devils that have mutated after eating other mindless devils, furthering their insanity."

"They will mutate into the creature that their personalities reflected before turning into a forsaken. The continued feeding on angels and devils will increase their power, the raw divinity collected in their bodies making them a formidable threat. Although they cannot use techniques like Edicts or Aspects, as they have no control over their divinity."

"Okay. How strong is the one on this island?"

"It's eaten around ten thousand devils and angels over its lifespan by Mammon's predictions. It slumbers just past the church, waiting for new prey to land in its feeding ground."

"Why do you even want me to kill it? What's the point if it's isolated on an island of no importance?"

"Because we need its blood and some of its body parts to further the studies of everlasting life. If we had reserved the effects on forsaken, we could possibly strengthen the effects of everlasting life. Renewing things that have been gone for aeons. Instead of making something corrupted, we can make it purer and more full of life."

"Why not aid me in killing the beast if it means you are getting closer to restoring your wings?"

"Because I'm staying here with Mammon for the foreseeable future, and I want to continue this research for the betterment of Faravos and to regain my feathers, which were taken aeons ago. You may do as you wish for now, but just remember to always side with Faravos if a conflict arises."

"So this is goodbye then for now?"

"Yes, I am not allowed to command you by Lady Nuit's order, so you may do anything as long as you don't betray Lady Nuit. This is merely a request from me to you. You don't have to kill the beast; it's just more convenient if you do it for me."

"I'll do it, but if I go off on my own, am I allowed to slay Sins if it betters my reputation with Kathoros?"

"If you must, but only kill two to match Kathoros' numbers. I was adamant on not killing them earlier, but in the grand scheme, they are meaningless when faced with a Dominion or Seraphim. The true threats of Kathoros."

"Don't worry if I decide on killing sins, I won't kill Sloth. I like him, he's a good source of amusement in the darkness of this war."

"Ha. I'm glad I feel the same way as Sloth. Speaking of Sloth, the siege that was supposed to take place has been cancelled. We are moving Sloth and Lust to Ashfall instead of Ironstar, as the Dominion of Sun has appeared at Ironstar. I would recommend making ties with the Dominion of Sun, making it easier to slay down the line."

"I won't be returning to this laboratory after slaying the beast then."

"It's completely up to you, but there isn't much for you to do here. Science isn't your preferred subject, I'm guessing combat is more your style."

"I guess it's decided I'll miss you using me as a bed at night," said Ratella, laughing at the absurdity of his sentence.

"Don't say that in front of these two; it sounds sexual. It was nothing of the sort; it's just that my wings make sleeping uncomfortable," said Liliana nervously, now fidgeting, her cheeks growing scarlet. Mammon laughed at her, rubbing her head slightly."Anyway, you won't be alone in your travels wherever you go. Kathoros or not, she'll follow you and keep an eye on you. She's a master at concealing her ominous presence so you may not even realise she's following you."

"And who is she? Have I met this woman before?"

"You've probably spotted her without realising it, but you've never spoken directly; she's a recluse. The exact opposite of me, I suppose."

"Can you just say who she is? Stop beating around the bush!" shouted Ratella, growing annoyed at her aloof behaviour getting sidetracked into explanations. Liliana's cheeks puffed out slightly for a second, obviously annoyed by his reprimand.

"Fine. Olivia Deathgale, the Horsemen of Death. She'll be watching over you mainly to ensure you don't die, but also to ensure you don't betray us. I wouldn't try to speak to her. She's detached from society, a quiet observer. She has no Sins under her command, and hasn't spoken to the other Horsemen in aeons. Only speaking to Lady Nuit. The dominion of death has made one antisocial."

"How sad," mumbled Ratella, the state of Olivia's life pulling on his heartstrings from Liliana's explanation. It sounded as if she was cast out of their circle, not by her own free will, losing the reason to speak.

"If you try to speak to her, you'll most likely be met by silence. That's just the effects of having millions of lives on your hands."

"Okay, I'll bring the beast's body back to the hideout after I'm done killing it. Then I'll head off for Ashfall and make contact with Seraphina Vulcan."

"I hope whenever we see each other again, my wings will be back to their former glory. Goodbye, Ratella Evergarden, until our next meeting," exclaimed Liliana, her gaze full of excitement and anticipation at revealing her full beauty eventually. Although a certain tone of sadness lingered in the back of her gaze. They waved each other off as he climbed the stairs to the surface, his last meeting with the sun being eight months ago.

"Don't damage its eyes or teeth!" shouted Mammon, forgetting to mention the most important part of the mission to kill the forsaken. Luckily, his words met Ratella's ears, nodding in confirmation out of Mammon's line of sight.
