Chapter 45 - Chapter 45: Creation's Vile Spawn

Ratella covered his eyes with his wings affixed to his head, withdrew Excalibur from the scabbard, listened to its harmonic song, and followed his path, focusing his remaining attention on the song of the creatures' blades.

Ratella burst forward, knocking Liliana off balance, inviting a string of curses to leave her mouth as she just barely caught herself.

The songs of the creatures' weapons were full of mindless rage and the horrific screams of all the lives they had taken. The agonizing song coming from their blades made it easy to counter any attack thrown his way.

His lack of sight only heightens his physical capabilities, slashing the first creature clean in half, the azure energy escaping into the air. The golden armor dropped to the floor.

He dodged past an attack from the second creature, dropping his stance, supporting himself with his wings, and planting a kick into the creature's side, throwing directly into the floor, its body bouncing backwards into a large piece of rubble, shattering it completely.

The murmurs of the creatures were growing more volatile and furious in the absence of two of their ranks. A creature wielding a greataxe threw the weapon directly at him, its song's increasing volume a giveaway of its growing proximity.

He evaded the weapons, bursting forward, landing behind the creature, impaling its chest with his wings before flicking it into some rubble, where it crumbled, the golden armor dropping to the floor, lifeless.

The remaining cosmic armors charged at Ratella, the energy encompassing their life humming more violently, growing into a disharmonic melody of rage. Sharpening his wings, he impaled the charging armors straight through their chests, avoiding the weapons in their hands. The energy escaped their bodies, rising into the atmosphere, abandoning its host.

Ratella removed the wings, obscuring his wings, revealing five impaled suits of armor. Their weapons are all intact thanks to Ratella's warning. The weapons soon returned to Liliana's realm of hell, retreating into the scarlet cracks in the earth.

"That was fun. They were filled with rage and fury. Can't have been lifeless beings, perhaps whoever made them was a wicked scientist using angels and Devils as test subjects," blurted out Ratella, the many theories within his brain spilling out into Liliana's ears.

"How do you know? They were making weird noises, but apart from that, I saw no indication they were anything close to being alive, let alone having emotions. They were mindless centuries."

"Their blades and hearts sang with a disharmony I've never known—even worse than Devils."

"I suppose someone could have made them if what you say is true. I cannot hear the songs of weapons or hearts, so I'm going to stick with them being mindless creatures for now."

"Well, I'm not sure if you can implant souls into an object with an Edict of Creation, but I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. The books I read never mentioned anything of the sort, but it's probably because it's a taboo practice."

"I suppose. I once fought an Edict of Creation user a while back, although he didn't last long. But from what I remember, he created chains and swords to dig themselves into the gaps, impaling whoever was caught in its confines."

"That's quite brutal and would definitely be a slow death."

"Yes, he killed one of the previous sins, hence why I had to deal with him to not incur any more casualties. My blades were far more effective than his; he stood no chance. The chains never grazed my skin," declared Liliana proudly puffing out her chest, seeking approval from Ratella.

"Originals will always outclass imitations. Real things are simply stronger," Ratella replied.

Ratella picked up some of the armor from the now lifeless creatures of energy, inspecting its surface apart from the small chips and many scuff marks from previous challengers to the ruin. It was mostly intact; the only part of the creatures created was the swirling mass of azure and violet energy confined within the armor.

"It seems the armor is real, along with the weapons, the only created thing being the energy in its core."

"I'm keeping these weapons. Want the rest?" Liliana asked.

Ratella picked up a longsword from the floor; its condition was immaculate, and it was made of a silver metal, with an intricate design mimicking the one on the altar, dancing along its surface.

Scarlet cracks appeared under the weapons on Liliana's side, swallowing them whole, adding to her endless arsenal of blades.

The weapons were all of pristine condition and obviously forged by a master blacksmith, but they still did not compare to Excalibur. Luna's works are far superior.

"You can have them; they are of amazing quality, but they still don't match up to Excalibur or my lance."

Immediately after he stopped speaking, scarlet cracks appeared under the blades, engulfing them and dragging them into her hell. He tossed the one in his grasp into the entry of hell lying to his left.

"Thank you for your donation, my good sir," exclaimed Liliana, chuckling to herself over her little quip.

The two soon exited the ruins, standing outside surveying the surrounding area for any more secrets nestled within the land.
