"But are you sure I'm the right person? If the child has no relatives, wouldn't a church be a more appropriate place?"

Normally, a child with no relatives at all would be placed under the care of a church.
"That would usually be true. But... there are circumstances. Since I'm the one who found the child, I couldn't bring myself to hand them over to complete strangers."
Qiong Xing wondered if that meant she trusted him.
"What about the child?"
He understood Katarina's feelings, but what mattered most was whether the child wanted the same thing.
Forcing someone into a decision was the last thing Qiong Xing wanted, so he needed to confirm it first.
"Ah, I talked to the child, but... She didn't say anything. I told her it was alright to refuse if she didn't want to go."
The child had not said no.
