How many years had it been since they'd last seen each other?
Ten? Twenty?
She could barely remember anymore.
She'd thought they would never meet again for the rest of her life—yet somehow, impossibly, here they were…
"Whoa, whoa, whoa—don't misunderstand!" Chen Mo said, panicking, shaking his head hard and waving both hands. "I'm not your sister!"
He absolutely could not let that stick. If this damned dragon latched onto him, he could kiss his comfortable life goodbye.
He used to be the one making others sweat. Now it was his turn to be drenched.
Under Ch'en's stunned stare, Chen Mo pointed at his horns, then turned and deliberately swished his thick tail at her.
"Look properly. I'm a man. And your sister doesn't have a tail this gorgeous."
His scales gleamed under the firelight. Only then did Ch'en's mind begin to clear.
On closer inspection, the silver-haired beauty in front of her wasn't exactly like Talulah.
Different horns. Different tail. And even his face—subtly more masculine.
He wasn't the sister she'd imagined… yet that only deepened her confusion.
"Who are you?" Ch'en demanded, voice hardening. "Why do you look so much like my sister, Talulah?"
"Who would even understand that question?" Chen Mo muttered, eyes drifting away as he pretended he had no idea who Talulah was. He edged back, inch by inch.
"Well, misunderstanding cleared up, so I'm leaving now."
The moment the words left his mouth, he shot through the fire wall like a bullet and sprinted into the distance.
Run. Now.
Ch'en stopped thinking. She launched after him, long legs driving her forward.
"Stop!"
Whether he was connected to Talulah or not, the silver-haired man was involved in the gang incident. She could not let him disappear.
Behind them, the LGD officers who arrived late stared at each other.
"Officer Ch'en went after the suspect alone. Should we follow?"
"You think you can keep up with Officer Ch'en's speed?"
"…Right. Forget it. Let's secure the scene."
Meanwhile, Chen Mo tore down the streets at a pace he'd never hit before, drawing shocked looks from pedestrians.
He glanced back at Ch'en—still locked onto him, still gaining—and let out a miserable howl in his head.
She's still chasing me—damn it!
"Man ahead, stop! If you keep running, you're obstructing official duties!"
"Then stop chasing me!"
This rice-roll dragon's stamina was insane. Chen Mo was a Draco with absurd endurance; he was practically about to run all the way back to District 19 on foot—and she was still right on him.
They vaulted street after street, dodged crowds and obstacles like it was a race, and before long they burst onto an entertainment strip in District 19.
That kind of commotion couldn't possibly slip past the Hungry Wolf Gang. Hungry Wolf arrived with several enforcers—and when she saw Ch'en Hui-chieh in hot pursuit behind Chen Mo, she fell into rare silence.
Chen Mo, however, lit up as if he'd found salvation. He waved both arms and yelled:
"Hey! Help me! Block the one behind me!"
He couldn't fight back. Fighting the LGD meant making the Guard Department his enemy—and that meant he was finished in Lungmen.
So he tried the only thing he could think of: borrow a blade. Let a gangster "accidentally" punch a cop.
Unfortunately, fantasy met reality.
Under Chen Mo's stunned gaze, Hungry Wolf stepped forward instead—leading her women to block his path.
"Stop, Chen Mo," she said calmly. "Can't you see that the famous Officer Ch'en doesn't have hostile intent toward you?"
Chen Mo answered by throwing a punch—dropping the thugs in front of Hungry Wolf like sacks of trash.
"Bullshit! Put a big, shiny performance metric in front of you and you won't feel 'hostile intent' either!"
"I helped you solve a whole gang problem—now move!"
He didn't stop. He cocked his fist again and swung toward Hungry Wolf's expressionless face.
But then—
A scorching body slammed into his back and cut his violence off.
Thump!
Tight thighs locked around his neck. A clean scent hit his nose—making his skin crawl more than anything.
A cool voice spoke from above him.
"Now we can talk properly, Fire Dragon."
"…You know, Officer," Chen Mo said through gritted teeth, "I can sue you for assaulting a man."
Ch'en immediately released him, yanked him to his feet, and bowed stiffly with absolute seriousness.
"My apologies," she said. "That was reckless. Please forgive my rudeness."
"Yeah, yeah, it's fine," Chen Mo said brightly, waving it off with a smile and trying to slip away in the confusion.
Then a pale hand snapped shut around his wrist.
His smile froze.
He turned—and found Ch'en's solemn, deadpan face staring back at him, unblinking.
"One issue at a time," she said. "Later, you can accuse me of improper conduct toward a man if you want. But right now, I can't let you go."
"Not until we address Talulah… and this gang incident."
Chen Mo tugged at his trapped wrist. Seeing the stubborn look that clearly said I will cling to you all day if I have to, he let out a long sigh.
"What a 'lucky day,'" he muttered. "I'm cursed."
"I can provide a quiet place for the two of you," Hungry Wolf offered.
Bad idea.
The moment she spoke, Chen Mo redirected all his rage onto her.
He glared at her infuriatingly pretty face so hard it could've scorched paint.
"Just you wait," he hissed. "I'm coming to settle accounts later."
"Watch your language, Fire Dragon," Ch'en snapped. "You're standing in front of a senior LGD officer."
She let go of Chen Mo's wrist—maintaining propriety. But her sharp eyes never left him. The moment he tried to run, she would pounce.
Hungry Wolf spoke again, tone suddenly very proper.
"My apologies, Officer Ch'en. This beautiful gentleman has nothing to do with the Hungry Wolf Gang."
"He is simply an ordinary Lungmen citizen."
Chen Mo blinked, surprised. Hungry Wolf was actually helping him wash the gang stink off?
Then again—he'd been caught by a cop. Of course she'd cut ties fast before the LGD started digging.
That logic only made Chen Mo angrier.
And while Ch'en—rarely—didn't comment, Chen Mo absolutely could not let it go.
His thick tail snapped out with a rush of wind, whipping Hungry Wolf off her feet and slamming her down alongside her enforcers.
With Ch'en's brows knit in open displeasure, Chen Mo made a very un-beautiful gesture at Hungry Wolf as she lay on the ground, face twisted in pain.
"Screw you."
