Chapter 17 - No way out

*2pm. Li Heng was queuing up for lunch, he looked around the cafeteria as he notices the diverse demographic people gathered in the mental hospital. From kids that are around 6 or 7 years old to elderly people in their 70s.

Meanwhile, the food that the hospital was looking 'bland' and focus more on carbohydrates, fat and protein such as grain, mash potato or soggy rice being placed onto the trays by a chef

Li Heng looked at it with suspicious and confusion as he picked up a soggy rice and inspect it closely.

Chef: "…You'll get used to it. Next!" He calmly said

*He sat down quietly at a nearby table near the walls, being isolated with the rest of the patients while eating uncomfortably

That was the case until he heard a familiar and unpleasant voice. He turned around and saw Wen Zhou alongside a tall bulky muscular man with the patient outfit barely hids his muscles and several scars presented on his arms walking beside him. Together, they slowly walked towards a group of elderly people near the center table

The surrounding people quickly backed off with their heads down while some patients quickly pulled the childrens away from the scene

They stopped and Wen Zhou slammed his fists onto the table while the elderly peoples flinched visibly

Wen Zhou: "Hey, my thing. Where is my cigarettes?" He said to one of the elderly man

Elderly Man: "I did not, you little-!" He said with a trembling voice

Before he finished, the muscular bulky man grabbed his neck and choked him

Elderly Man: "-Wait, I did not-You little dog-!"

Wen Zhou: "I asked 'nicely', old man. Harder, Wang Guan"

Wang Guan now lift the elderly man off the table and began choking harder on the elderly man

The surrounding patients all got up and backed off including Li Heng who is backing up to the wall looking at the horrific scene. His tray flipped through the ground, the foods splattered everywhere, everyone held their breaths until Dr Ng alongside several nurse walked up and shouted

Dr Ng: "Enough, this is the fifth time this week! How many times do we have to tell you this? Wen Zhou?!" He shouted

Wang Guan looked at Wen Zhou who gestured him to stay down. He smirked before roughly release the elderly man who roughly hit the table. Wen Zhou then walked towards Dr Ng and staring down on him.

Wen Zhou: "A noble nonsense act, Dr Ng" He said calmly before walking out with Wang Guan

Patient 1: "Can't anyone sent him away?"

Patient 2: "I heard that bodyguard is a former soldier. No wonder, he got the guts to challenge people here"

Dr Ng: "Shit…" He whispered before looking around and saw Li Heng who was still traumatized

Dr Ng: "Li Heng, come with me. You're report is up!" He shouted and the two of them quickly walked out to the hallway

The hallway was filled with elderly patients carried by nurses, several nurses pushing medicine filled trays into seperate rooms that filled the air with medical and herb scents

Li Heng: "About just now…Is he a psychopath now?"

Dr Ng: "Who? Wen Zhou? That brat is one spoiled, rotten child if I see one. His parents sent him in because of emotional problems but as you see just now…Not the last time and nothing happens to him"

Li Heng: "How? What…"

Dr Ng: "Let's skip pass this topic…About your report of your health condition. Well, my HOD (Head of Department)- Dr Zhao wants to report to you together at his office"

Li Heng: "…Is he a good doctor?" He asked

Dr Ng: "Let me consider...…He's experienced in psychological treatment and provide therapy sessions in occasions to patients. The one you need right now"

Li Heng said nothing as they arrived at a office room with a sign 'Dr Zhao Ying Heng' on the door. Dr Ng knocked softly before entering the room

Inside the room was a bald man sitting on his chair, looking out of the window. On the walls were many insect specimens and organized chemistry reports on the table. Too much in fact for a doctor in psychology.

Dr Zhao: "Good afternoon, I'm Dr Zhao Ying Heng, a psychologist working here. Pleasure to meet you, Li Heng"

He took out his hand for Li Heng for a shake however he notices that the doctor's hand has several scars and marks in small dots. He ignored those and shake his hand firmly and sits down

Dr Zhao: "So Li Heng, after looking at your report with Dr Ng. We can tell you that your physical condition is stable to say the least however your blood cells have slightly higher iron and magnesium which is unusual but overall not concerning"

Li Heng: "Okay, then can I leave-?"

Dr Zhao and Dr Ng paused a moment before Dr Zhao continuing the report

Dr Zhao: "That is why we called you personally because from all your recent encounters and situations. Your mental condition is slightly…On the edge"

Dr Ng: "Although the public have calmed down however online comments and other things could seriously throw you off the edge"

Li Heng was stunned as he faceplam after hearing the report

Dr Zhao: "Li Heng, do you hear words and sentences from your mind or…An imaginary friend?"

…

Li Heng: "No…There was no one speaking to my brain. Nobody" He said quietly while his hand was placed on his knees

Dr Zhao: "…I think it's better if you stay a little longer. People under severe trauma won't recognize their instability. It's better to cure it before returning to society"

…

Li Heng: "Then…What could I do? What can I do to prove I'm stable?"

Dr Zhao and Dr Ng looked at each other with an impressed expression

Dr Zhao: "We'll have you to interact with our subjects here to ensure that your condition would fit our and the government reintegration"

Dr Ng: "I'll be in charge of you as always-"

Dr Zhao: "Dr Ng, allow me to be in charge of him"

Dr Ng although shocked decided to leave his words after the meeting was over. He said nothing and looks at Li Heng

Dr Ng: "I think you could go now. Maybe try interact with the patients here to try and lessen your burdens"

Li Heng nods and leave quickly accompanied by the nurses. As the door closes, Dr Zhao got up and put Li Heng's report into one of the many cabinets labelled as [Test Subjects], [Deceased], [Reintegrated]

Dr Zhao: " Ng, that wasn't really polite, was it?" He said while looking at his cabinets

Dr Ng: "Zhao, enough. I saw your interactions with Wen Zhou and the recent patients under your care disappeared and reintegrated. What is this hospital hiding?"

Dr Zhao: "Ng, we know each other for years. You really expect me to be in charge of secretive things?"

Dr Ng: "They're childrens and elderies. Zhao, make up your mind."

Dr Ng got up and quickly leave the office, leaving Dr Zhao to look at his insect specimen and Li Heng's report.

Dr Zhao: "Very interesting…"
