Only within this specially constructed room, shielded from Force detection, could he temporarily shed the facade of Chancellor Palpatine and catch his breath.
For years, he had concealed his true identity within the Force, leaving him few opportunities to relax here.
Darth Sidious's thoughts drifted between past and future.
From childhood, he had been different from his siblings. He could sense the immense power dormant within him, convinced he could not only change his family's fate but also steer the course of the entire galaxy.
Ambitious, he had urged his family to take a more radical stance in Naboo's politics, hoping to accumulate greater wealth and power. Yet he soon discovered he stood alone in his grand ambitions.
His contempt for his father's incompetence and his fury at his mother's contentment with the status quo had planted the seed of killing his father in his young heart, a dark thought he would conceal for many years.
More importantly, Sheev Palpatine discovered his special power from a young age.
By unconsciously concealing his abilities, he successfully evaded the Jedi Seekers, laying the groundwork for his future rise to power.
He was discovered by the Sith Lord Muun, Darth Plagueis.
Thirsting for power and knowledge, Palpatine accepted Plagueis's offer to become his apprentice.
After an ancient ritual, he was given a new name: Darth Sidious.
His Master's first command was to personally kill his younger sister, the only member of his family who had ever loved and cherished him.
In that moment, he filled with hatred for his Master.
Later, he also killed his father, brothers, and mother, but those were his own decisions.
In his eyes, they were unworthy of living.
Palpatine's apprenticeship lasted thirty years.
As Sidious, he delved deeply into Sith history, studying from the ancient Lords to modern ones like Darth Bane.
Bane's doctrines formed the basic principles of the modern Sith Order, while Plagueis's training was even more brutal and ruthless. This ultimately molded Palpatine into one of the most powerful Sith Lords since Bane.
Plagueis fulfilled his promise. Sidious was weakened, humiliated, forced to confront his deepest fears and lose everything he cherished.
Once the vessel of his soul had been utterly emptied, it was refilled with a new creed:
The path of the Dark Side of the Force.
From mastering oneself to dominating all living beings.
"You must begin by drawing strength from yourself," Plagueis taught. "Then from others, from groups, organizations, worlds... ultimately from the entire galaxy."
Yet deep within his soul, Sheev Palpatine remained unchanged.
All his learning had been for this moment—the moment when the Sith would launch their final revenge against the Jedi Order.
The true meaning of this revenge was known only to Plagueis and Sidious.
It had been planned back in Bane's time, drawing lessons from the failures of past Sith. Instead of open confrontation, they would let the Republic die from its own corruption.
The Sith needed only to accelerate this process, fanning the flames of war, murder, injustice, and greed across the galaxy, exposing the flaws of the democratic system.
A secret virus will erode the Republic's political body until all its vital systems are paralyzed.
The fragmented Republic will become a vulnerable target.
The people, having seen the flaws of weak governance, will willingly submit to tyranny.
As a Muun, Plagueis (formerly known as Hego Damask) controlled vast capital from the Muun interstellar banking system and wealth accumulated over decades by the Sith.
He invested most of these resources into this grand endeavor.
However... Darth Plagueis betrayed him, betraying the ideals they had pursued together for years.
Plagueis became obsessed with the forbidden study of immortality, delving into knowledge of resurrecting the dead and saving the dying.
Both Jedi and Sith had sought eternal life, but most attempts ended in failure.
Plagueis began "reverse" research, attempting to create new life from nothing.
He conducted horrifying experiments on Force-sensitive subjects, using their flesh to kill and revive intelligent life.
Finally, he revealed his experiments with the midichlorians to Sidious.
He had successfully influenced the Misty Terrain Parasite, directly creating life through the Force.
The child born from this experiment possessed a startling sensitivity to the Force.
Sidious immediately suspected that Plagueis intended to "create" a new apprentice to replace him.
Feeling his position threatened, he concluded he had learned all he could from Plagueis.
When Plagueis grew disappointed in the experiment and evaded his questions, Sidious seized the opportunity to strike while his master slept.
"From the moment you decided to train me, to have me rule the galaxy... or more accurately, to have me rule under your feet, you lost this game. You were my teacher... yes, I will always be grateful to you, but you will never be my master."
Sidious declared clearly to the dying Muun, who clung futilely to the fading remnants of his life.
From that moment on, Darth Plagueis's "plan" became Darth Sidious's "plan."
He absorbed numerous secret Sith organizations under his control, such as the "Sun Guards of Tyre" and the "Dark Side Prophets."
For Force-sensitive individuals powerful enough to rival him, Sidious either eliminated them or exploited them before planning their eventual removal. For those who were weaker but talented, he went to great lengths to protect them.
He needed loyal followers, not blind fanatics, but capable executors and advisors.
Palpatine cared nothing for their species, only for their ability to fulfill their duties.
Among these wise advisors were Sly Moore, his most loyal follower and an Umbaran who knew most of Sidious's secrets, capable of infiltrating and controlling the minds of living, sentient beings.
There was Vice-Chancellor Mas Amedda, who enthusiastically supported all of Chancellor Palpatine's proposals.
There was Seti Pestage, Palpatine's assistant since his days on Naboo.
There was Kinman Doriana, and many others.
Darth Sidious believed Bane's "Rule of Two" had long since become outdated.
Two alone could not change the fate of the galaxy, but only two could stand at the pinnacle.
Therefore, Palpatine began to act.
Sheev Palpatine's political career began much earlier.
During the "Naboo blockade," he was already the senator of that star system.
When the willful Queen Amidala pushed for a vote of no confidence against Chancellor Valorum, Palpatine became the new Chancellor.
During this time, he befriended many who shared his views, including Tenerelrad Scried, Willhoff Tarkin, and Kruya Wandron.
After the failed invasion of Naboo, orchestrated by Darth Plagueis and supervised by Darth Sidious, a temporary calm settled over the galaxy.
But now, Palpatine had new motivation to accelerate his plans to destroy the Jedi Order and seize power over the galaxy.
Through his close association with the Prophet, he learned the secret knowledge of glimpsing multiple possible futures.
This wasn't the Jedi's foresight, but a more powerful ability that could pierce the boundaries of time and see decades into the future.
And what he saw... was danger.
A threat was rising, one that would sweep across the galaxy, drowning it in blood and endangering the very existence of the current order.
Beings fundamentally opposed to the Force itself were about to arrive, destined to seize control of the galaxy.
Darth Sidious could not allow this to happen.
Thus, he accelerated the execution of his "plan."
Darth Plagueis had failed to meet his expectations, so he shifted his focus to the child he had encountered with the Queen of Naboo and her two Jedi escorts... Anakin Skywalker.
The boy's abilities and connection to the Force were astonishing.
In Sidious's memory, Plagueis had first shown fear, believing he was responsible for Skywalker's emergence and interpreting it as the Force's backlash against his attempts to tip the balance toward the Dark Side.
If Plagueis had once boasted of being able to create the "Chosen One" prophesied in the ancient texts, then his primary task now was to prevent this boy from falling into the hands of the Jedi.
Unfortunately, Skywalker became Obi-Wan Kenobi's apprentice, and shortly after, Palpatine killed Plagueis.
But the Jedi's interference did not trouble him.
Letting the boy himself realize the Warrior Order's incompetence would make it easier to win him over later.
Palpatine kept a close watch on his future apprentice.
Meanwhile, the "plan" began to unfold.
Using his connections within the Trade Federation and his newly recruited apprentice from the Jedi Order, Count Dooku, Palpatine fanned the flames of Separatism while preparing the Republic for the impending turmoil.
Notably, Dooku's close friend, Sifo-Dyas, was enlisted to create the Clone Trooper army... the very army now standing to defend the Republic.
Moreover, his loyal servant Dooku found several intelligent beings and introduced them as his own apprentices, such as Grievous and the recently discovered Asajj Ventress.
Sidious gladly accepted these new agents, adding new details to his plan and injecting fresh hues into his vision of the future.
After the Battle of Geonosis, many Jedi fell, and Chancellor Palpatine gained nearly unlimited power.
This should greatly aid the execution of "the plan."
Palpatine intended to gradually revise the constitution, further expanding his already considerable authority.
The dice had been cast. The long-planned war had begun.
Darth Sidious, possessing precise intelligence on both sides, planned to strictly control the course of events, though he acknowledged the possibility of deviations.
