Chapter 43 - Madam Eva

Milo was not exactly keen on why Eva seemed so disgusted by his presence. Frankly he found it rather insulting. He could've blamed his Flaw, but after some thought, he was just freaked out by her.

"Stuck up legacy bitch! The nerve to act disgusted towards me with your vampire looking ass!"

Milo, of course kept these thoughts to himself. After all, he was a civilized human being. So he simply stood there, biting back his tongue and his face from contorting into a raging ball of anger.

Then he looked around, and everyone was giving him the weirdest stares. Then he looked at Eva, and she didn't seem happy. If looks could kill, she was stabbing him with a thousand Memories.

"Ah shit, I said that aloud, huh."

Some Sleeper in the class said

"Yes, you did."

That got a couple snickers, Milo wanted to sneer, really fucking funny to use him as the butt of the joke. It was then that Eva grabbed him by the collar of his dobok.

"You know, contrary to popular belief, vampire's are very very strong."

Milo smiled shakily.

"Ah... is that right?"

He turned to Instructor Rock, hoping that he would give him some guidance or break up this imposing fight. Instructor Rock was grinning ear to ear, entertained by his suffering.

'Fuck!'

It was then that Eva threw a wild swing at Milo, and Milo dodged... very easily in fact.

'Huh?'

Eva threw another punch, it was so sloppy it was laughable... something was off. Milo sighed inwardly, it seemed he would have to do some trickery. Her third punch connected, and to be frank, Milo felt like he was getting hit by a rock.

His cheek became a dark purple, and Instructor Rock stepped in.

"Alright, that's enough. Milo, go to the healers office... Eva, you can take him, but if you lay another hand on him you will suffer the consequences."

'Scary' Milo thought to himself. His mouth was bleeding slightly, how can a person have such sloppy technique and still hit like a truck?

Each step took great amounts of effort. His feet supposedly became boulders and his upper body was a mountain. Why was it so heavy.

It was only then that a set of hands steadied him, Eva was standing looking just as shocked as Milo was inwardly. Did she not even know her own strength?

'I've never met such a weirdo.'

Milo exited the training room with Eva, then he dropped the act of being hurt as best he could. Of course, it was hard to ignore the throbbing pain on his cheek and the rattle of his brain, but that was solvable later.

"You, Eva was it?"

"Y-yeah" Eva blurted out, she seemed to be thinking about something rather happily.

"First off, you aren't a legacy, are you? Are you an Outskirts rat, unless you were failing terribly in school, that technique is the sloppiest thing I've seen so far."

Eva paused and Milo knew that expression, she was coming up with a lie, he knew it.

"Actually, I am an outskirts rat, that's why I don't know how to fight, so better to learn here no?"

Milo grinned inwardly, she fell for his trick.

"Get serious, even Outskirt rats know how to fight. I'd be more confident in an Outskirts rat winning a fight then a regular kid. So, tell me, what exactly are you."

Eva froze up, her expression stuck. Milo could probably see her entire thought process.

"Shit, he knows somethings wrong. I can't double down, and if I switch up my excuse that just seems more suspicious. There's only one option left." Is probably what she's thinking'

'Actually, what would that one option be?'

Eva reeled her fist back, and Milo raised his guard. The punch landed on his prosthetic. A loud clang resided throughout the hall they were in.

'There's no way Instructor Rock didn't hear that... I can't have him interrupting now!'

Milo grabbed Eva by the collar and pulled open the nearest door. It was some dainty storage closet that barely got used from the looks of it. He threw her against the wall and closed the door behind them.

"Listen, I don't know what exactly it is you're trying to do. If you want to come off as weak, then I'll give you a round of applause because you're a damn good actor. If not, then why the hell do you suck at fighting? Are you home-schooled or something?"

Eva gritted her teeth.

"I can't tell you the reason."

Milo sighed

"I'm an idiot, and I was able to pick up on this. You think the dozens of other Sleepers won't notice as well? I don't think the legacies will exactly let someone who looks like them come off as weak."

Eva looked confused, what was so damn complicated about his words?

"I don't look like a legacy, do I?"

Milo tensed up... was this woman serious?

"You literally have eyes that look more like crimson flames than eyes, you're nearly as pale as a marble statue... also that punch you threw packed some serious force behind it. If you're simply antisocial, then that makes sense, but you have this aura around you that says don't talk to me. You are the prime example of a legacy in terms of looks and demeanor"

Milo went silent, then he looked at the door. Was he seeing things, or did a shadow just move? Did Eva just give him a concussion?

"Alright... but I'm not a legacy or an outskirts rat. I'm... shit! I'm a trans-"

Milo hand covered Eva's mouth. He heard footsteps, a lot of them. Had the class really ended in that short amount of time? It was that Nephis girl no doubt. She probably steam rolled everybody in that class.

The two remained in silence as a horde of footsteps made their way past the door, along with some meaningless chatter. Some were questioning Eva's combat ability, others were glad she put some peasant in their place.

The footsteps came and went. Milo pulled his hand back. Then he looked at the corner, he swore he saw something move. He peered real closely, it was at that point a shadow ran out of the room. Just barely visible thanks to the light from the hallway.

They were being watched by somebody, but why? Who would care about this?

Milo shook his head, and Eva seemed to have notice too.

"So he was watching..."

Milo turned back to Eva.

"Who's he?"

"I can't tell you that? If you want the truth, I'll tell you the truth. I'm not from this world, I got transported into a story I was reading."

Milo's eyes widened, his entire world spun...

Then he cackled like he never had before. This was just too good, too funny. If she was really that desperate to cover up the real reason, she might as well have just tried to knock him out.

Milo clutched his stomach, and Eva didn't exactly look too amused from being made a laughing stock.

'I-I'm sorry, I didn't know it was that important of a secret." Milo wheezed out between chuckles and attempts to hold back his laughter.

Eva smirked, at least she had some sense of humor. "I'll prove it to you, become my friend."

Milo stopped laughing.

"Uh... okay."

Eva looked like she was scheming something, a plan unfolding in her eyes as the seconds pasted. Milo noted it, maybe she wasn't lying.

"Alright, you'll be my new tour around this world. Teach me everything you can in the next coming months." Eva declared while pointing at him, Milo looked at her.

"You know, this looks like those moments in an anime where the female lead declares something to the male lead and starts their shenanigans together."

Eva looked around, noting the small closet, Milo was still bleeding from his mouth, and the whole entire awkward atmosphere.

"Ew, you're right. Lets get you to the healers office, wherever the hell that is."

Milo chuckled and opened the door. "So you don't know either, Madam Eva"

Eva cringed. "Stop that."

Milo shrugged "It'll be weird if a perceived legacy starts hanging out with someone like me. Just make up some excuse like this is a punishment for my insult, throw something about honor and upholding your family name while you're at it if you need to."

Eva nodded while walking past Milo "That's actually a good plan."

Milo closed the door behind them, it was only then that the shadow in the corner allowed itself to throw what could only be described as the weirdest fight moves imaginable. Somewhere far away, Sunny had a contemplative look on his face.

'Those two... are really fucking weird. I felt like I was watching some horrible rom-com'

Sunny waved away the memory of what he just witnessed. He had to focus on his Wilderness Survival class after all, an outskirts rat like him had no chance otherwise.
