Chapter 34 - Again and Again

Milo shot more of the Coil Gun. The pale man dodged, multiple tendrils shot out attempting to pierce through Milo. His left hand moved, unsheathing the Prototype and deflecting each one. His right arm changed, forming into a bladed whip. With a snap of his arm, the whip embedded itself into the tendrils, sawing them off. The flesh disappeared, replaced yet again.

Milo surged forward, the pale man grinned as the two met in a clash. Milo kicked upwards. Following with a slash at the mans chest. The man didn't dodge, opting to slash at Milo's thigh. Milo avoided it and twirled forward. The Prototype struck true once again. The flesh stabbed forward. Multiple tendrils ensnared Milo. The man grinned, his arm poised to punch a hole through Milo's head.

The scent of burning flesh and the sizzle of it came from below. Milo fell back, crawling back before standing up once again. On his sides were thrusters that had burned the tendrils holding him. The thrusters retracted once again. The man scoffed slightly.

"What a tricky ability you have. I might be able to do something similar."

A sharp javelin of flesh manifested in the mans hand. He threw it at Milo. It was a rather pathetic attempt if Milo was being honest, he could easily catch it... yet his instincts told him to avoid it.

He dodged, as it whizzed past, the flesh writhed and exploded. Countless bits of bone and rough scales flew around. Many of them barely scratched the surface of Carmen's Masterpiece. However, big triangle shaped bone embedded itself in Milo's visor, missing his eye by near inches.

Milo pulled out the bone, tossing it aside. The man was already upon him, stabbing at him with his sharp claws. Milo barely slipped by each swipe or narrowly blocked each stab. Why was this pale and sickly man so incredibly strong?

Milo felt something tug at his back, he was thrown to the ground. The man lunged at him, Milo's arm quickly changed back to its original form. Grabbing the mans claw, it nearly flayed his fingers. Milo stabbed his sword into the body and blew the head off with the pellets of his prosthetic.

It bought him a few precious seconds to back up once again. The man laughed.

"You cannot win this battle, submit, submit to me!"

Milo shook his head.

"I've come from the future, and you are no longer alive. I'll make sure of that"

Milo focused. He desummoned the helmet, it was only a hinderance to look through that broken visor.

His armor seemed to become shinier, gaining a gentle orange glow into. The machinery within whirred with effort. The Prototype began to vibrate violently, electric sparks flying around its blade as it also began to glow orange.

Milo's essence began to drain steadily, Overclock would only last so long. Overclock was the key of activating the enchantment of The Prototype. Milo couldn't augment his body because it was no longer technology. Which was a shame, it would've been extremely useful in this fight.

The two continued to fight. Milo was wasting a lot of its flesh, each slash, each beheading or split required new flesh. However, the man was draining Milo. Piercing his arm, slashing his side, or breaking a rib. All of these injuries were adding up

Milo's breath was labored, his body shaky as he stabbed through the man once again. The man's body didn't falter. A sharp claw flayed his shoulder. Milo grimaced and slashed at the claw. His right hand poised itself at the mans leg, blowing it off without a second thought.

Carmen's Masterpiece wouldn't be able to keep up with the amount of injuries. Milo had boasted about killing the man... but this fight didn't seem viable. The Cacophony of Cords should've attracted most of the enemies attention into clawing their way to Milo, whose real body was still in the flesh colossus's core.

Yet it wasn't enough, the man was still absolutely set on taking over Milo.

'Just endure a little bit longer...'

Milo bashed the man away. Every second of respite counted. His body was burning with the heat that was produced by Overclock. Milo looked down at the sea of oil within his soul. It had already gone on fire once before, what would happen if it did again?

Milo grinded his blade against the vambrace of his left hand. Sparks flew to the ground. In one moment, there was silence, in the next, a bright light enveloped his soul. The scorch of flames filled his soul. Milo grimaced, Carmen's Masterpiece could protect him for a small amount of time.

The man didn't enjoy the same protection, flesh was shriveling up and being replaced each second. The man rushed forward, attacking Milo relentlessly. He had abandoned all defense, opting to kill Milo as quick as possible.

'He's desperate'

Milo couldn't dodge, he could barely block properly. In the end, he raised his hands and protected multiple vital points. He felt his skin be slashed open, muscle torn apart. Some bones cracked, others were rattled from the pressure. Carmen's Masterpiece was breaking down by the second. The protection it offered began to die down. He moved the augmentation from the Prototype into Carmen's Masterpiece.

The augmentation helped turn deep lacerations into shallow cuts. However, he still didn't have a helmet. Tendrils grabbed his hands, forcing them away from his face. Milo grimaced, the man shared an uncomfortable moment of eye contact with Milo. His eyes felt lifeless, empty, a husk. Milo wanted to look away. But the mans hands forced his head in place.

"I will assimilate all with the flames of life in due time. Starting with you."

The man raised his claws. Milo grinned

'I've won!'

A loud buzzer sounded throughout his soul. The blue lights from the technology in his soul began to flash red. The man turned around.

The constructs around his soul core and in his soul turned into a sentry of armaments. Ranging from machine guns to missile launchers to energy blasters.

The man moved to open his mouth, but it was too late. In the next moment, the flesh and man was shredded to bits by bullets, the regenerating flesh was exploded to chunks, and the burned by scorching energy.

All it took was a few seconds.

[You have slain an Corrupted Tyrant, Tilon the Gravemind]

[You have received a Memory: Pulse of the Gravemind]

Milo exited his Soul Sea. His body hurt, it hurt a lot. The core he resided in crashed down. Milo groaned as he slammed into the ground. Summoning the Prototype, he slashed the flesh apart. Carving his way out of Tilon.

All around him, the flesh golems had collapsed, the loss of their master had made them easy to kill more than likely. Along with the golems were hundreds and hundreds of constructs.

They didn't stay down for long. Soon, a soft blue light resided within them, and they stood up once again. Milo looked around, the fortress had made significant progress ahead. He willed a construct to carry him. The construct scooped him up and rushed towards the fortress.

It was time to help Eva and end this nightmare once and for all.
