Chapter 23 - The Little Teacher’s Earnest Advice

"No—no, I don't want to go in there…"

"Let go of me! Let go!!"

"Ghh—ghhh~"

The undead screamed in terror.

But under the Soul-Binding Chains formed from the Yin energy of Yama's Underworld, their struggles were utterly meaningless. With their level of strength, there was no chance—none at all—of breaking free.

One after another, they were dragged straight into the Underworld.

The moment they entered, they were immediately suppressed by the Ghost Bride, falling into a vacant, sluggish state.

"Ghhh—"

The Jian let out a hoarse roar.

As undead appeared one after another before it, hunger surged within it. Pure instinct urged it to devour them.

Bai Jue curled his lips slightly and said calmly,

"You can eat ten."

Right now, inside the Spirit Domain, undead were the one thing he absolutely did not lack. Before leaving, feeding the Jian ten undead a day—or even more—would be no problem at all.

Upon receiving the order, the Jian immediately let out an excited sound, grabbing an undead and stuffing it straight into its mouth.

One after another.

It devoured them with wild enthusiasm.

The next instant—

Boom!

A powerful aura erupted.

The Jian's realm surged forward, breaking through in one leap and entering First Rank.

A trace of clarity appeared in its eyes—though dullness still dominated.

Perhaps, with further growth, it would one day regain full consciousness.

But that was a matter for the future.

What mattered now was obvious:

The Jian had grown far stronger.

Yet what pleased Bai Jue even more was something else entirely.

Guided by the Jian's breakthrough aura, the hundred-plus evil ghosts Bai Jue had previously captured all opened their eyes at the same time.

Within Yama's Underworld, Yin energy surged violently, howling in waves.

Auras burst forth from the ghosts one after another.

More than a hundred evil ghosts—

All advanced together into Mid-Apprentice Rank.

"Hahaha—excellent."

Feeling this change, Bai Jue couldn't help but laugh aloud.

With a thought, Ghost Gate Pass vanished.

Every last undead in the surroundings had already been completely cleared out.

Di Yao walked over, curiosity written all over her face.

"What are you so happy about?"

"Because my combat strength just got a lot stronger,"

Bai Jue said excitedly, clenching his fists.

Di Yao's eyes rolled slightly, and she smiled.

"Oh? Stronger? Perfect—then let's go. I'll take you to the next place."

"The Spirit Domain is huge. This area is just the outer layer—undead here aren't that strong. Deeper in… even your teacher doesn't dare go too far."

She spoke while walking off in one direction.

Bai Jue followed, rubbing his neck.

"What's in the deepest parts?"

"Terrifying things,"

Di Yao replied seriously after a moment of thought.

Bai Jue stroked his chin.

Probably beings even stronger than Ghost Kings.

The two continued onward.

After crossing a mountain, a massive ruin soon appeared in their field of vision—a once-glorious city of the civilization that had existed in this Spirit Domain, now nothing but broken remains.

Inside this space gate, Bai Jue had almost lost track of time.

The sky was eternally dim. There was no sunlight at all.

This ruin wasn't their destination.

Di Yao kept moving.

But suddenly—

Boom!

A loud disturbance echoed from within the ruins, as if something had violently collided.

Faint cries for help followed.

Di Yao looked over, frowning.

"Sounds like students."

"Students?"

Bai Jue looked surprised. "They're allowed to enter here?"

"Of course. Not local students from Tiankui City, though—these are from other cities," Di Yao explained.

"It's a form of resource exchange. Universities in different cities trade space-gate quotas so their students can train in unfamiliar environments."

"So… what do we do?"

"Obviously we help," Di Yao said, rolling her eyes.

"Since we saw it, we should at least check if we can help."

Just as she was about to move, she suddenly stopped, turned around, and looked at Bai Jue seriously.

"Xiao Bai, listen carefully. This is important."

Her tone turned heavy.

"When you run into situations like this in the future, first sneak over and take a look."

"If you can help—then help."

"If you can't—pretend you saw nothing and leave immediately."

She spoke with deep conviction.

"This is wisdom your teacher has learned after years of wandering."

"And if you ever see two sides fighting over resources…"

She leaned closer and whispered,

"You can quietly sneak in, grab the resources, and run."

"Oh—and before you do that, remember to disguise yourself. Don't get recognized."

"…"

Bai Jue twitched at the corner of his mouth, then nodded seriously.

"Understood, Teacher. I'll remember."

"Good. You're teachable."

Di Yao grinned, then finally led Bai Jue toward the ruins.

Soon—

They arrived at the scene.

At a glance, it was clear: a group of young students was desperately resisting an onslaught of undead inside the ruins.

The undead numbered in the thousands, and more were continuously gathering from all directions.

No one knew what these students had done to provoke such a response.

The teacher leading them was fairly strong—Third Rank.

But among the undead—

There were three Ghost Kings.

One instructor was nowhere near enough.

Surrounded with no way to retreat, despair had already begun to appear in the students' eyes.

"Well?"

Bai Jue asked. "Help them?"

"Yes," the little teacher nodded. "It won't be too troublesome."

She reached into the air, pulling out two bottles and tossing them to Bai Jue.

"Here. Prayer Power recovery potions. They'll help you restore energy faster."

"Next—those three Ghost Kings are mine," Di Yao said.

"You handle the rest. Can you manage?"

"No problem."

Bai Jue grinned confidently.

What he feared least—

Was undead.

"Hehe, then let's go."

Di Yao smiled.

The instant her voice fell—

Her cute face twisted grotesquely into a blue-skinned, fanged ghost visage.

Terrifying Yin energy erupted from her body.

She vanished like a phantom, charging straight at one of the Ghost Kings.

Before it could even react—

She appeared in front of it, grabbed its head with one hand, and squeezed hard.

Crack.

The Ghost King's head exploded.

The sheer brutality left Bai Jue staring blankly for a moment.

After a while, he clicked his tongue in amazement.

"…Damn. This little teacher is violent."

Then—

He stopped wasting time.

Taking a deep breath, Bai Jue stepped forward and charged.

He uncorked a Prayer Power potion and downed it in one gulp.

A grin spread across his face.

"Kill!"

The moment the word left his mouth—

Ghost Gate Pass opened once more.

Evil ghosts and undead surged out in a flood.

At the same time, countless Soul-Binding Chains shot forth, wrapping around undead after undead and dragging them back.

Yin officials wielding blades guarded both sides.

At this moment—

The true might of Mid-Autumn Festival was fully unleashed.
