Chapter 10 - A Gift from the Night Watchers

After completing the evaluation and displaying his abilities, Bai Jue quickly received his Festival Adept identification.

It looked much like a standard ID card—his photo, name, gender, race, and identification number were all clearly listed, along with his awakened festival ability.

When Bai Jue walked out of the Festival Adept Branch building, a smile had already spread across his face.

The reason was simple.

He had just received his first Festival Adept benefit—

10,000 Alliance Coins.

This world was governed by the Federation, so the unified currency was known as Alliance Coins. Its purchasing power was extremely high—an ordinary household earning 5,000 Alliance Coins a month was already considered comfortably well-off.

Of course, as an Apprentice Early-Stage Festival Adept, Bai Jue could receive 10,000 Alliance Coins every month.

It sounded like a lot.

But in reality, it wasn't.

Festival Adepts had far higher expenses than ordinary people.

Put simply—just like martial artists of old—

Poor scholars, wealthy warriors.

That saying fit perfectly.

That said, once one became a Festival Adept, wealth could also be earned directly through strength—by entering spatial gates.

Bai Jue had heard about spatial gates ever since arriving in this world, but he had never seen one in person.

He was looking forward to it.

However, before entering any spatial gate, he planned to visit the Tiankui City Night Watcher Base first.

He had already thought it through.

He would join the Night Watchers.

No matter how one looked at it, the待遇 offered by the Night Watchers was excellent. And having arrived in a new world, Bai Jue naturally wanted to become strong.

At present, joining the Night Watchers seemed like the best choice.

Most Festival Adepts, after graduating high school, either entered universities and became unaffiliated independents—or joined city military forces.

There were no other real options.

Independents were free, but had limited channels and scarce access to resources—not conducive to growth.

Soldiers grew through battle and slaughter, but lacked freedom.

The Night Watchers, however, struck a balance between the two.

That was why Bai Jue intended to join—though he still wanted to see things for himself first.

He hailed a taxi, paid five Alliance Coins, and arrived at the Night Watcher Base.

Looking up, he saw a skyscraper that pierced the clouds.

Luxurious.

Extravagant.

"So rich…"

Bai Jue murmured.

Just from this building alone, he could tell how powerful the Night Watchers were. An ordinary organization simply couldn't afford something like this.

After all, the entire building belonged exclusively to the Night Watchers.

Shaking his head, Bai Jue stepped inside.

He had barely taken a few steps when a woman in a sleek OL uniform approached him. She was attractive and professional, and her eyes lit up the moment she saw him.

"Hello—are you Mr. Bai Jue?"

"That's me. And you are…?"

Bai Jue nodded, a hint of confusion on his face.

"President Sikong gave us your photo earlier. She said that if you came, we were to bring you straight up."

The woman smiled warmly.

"I see."

Bai Jue nodded in understanding.

"Then I'll trouble you."

"Not at all. Please follow me."

She turned and led the way.

They entered the elevator and went straight to the top floor.

Once they arrived, the woman said politely, "This is it. The president is in the innermost office. I'm not authorized to go in—please proceed on your own."

"Alright. Thank you."

"You're welcome."

The elevator doors closed.

Bai Jue walked calmly toward the office.

Before he could knock, the door opened by itself.

From inside came Sikong Xi's voice.

"I knew you'd come, Bai Jue."

"I'm just here to take a look," Bai Jue replied, lips curling slightly. "And to be fair, the Night Watchers'待遇 really is quite good."

"Haha—quite good is an understatement."

Sikong Xi rose slowly from behind her desk and pointed to the phone resting on it.

"Do you know how many calls came in before you arrived?"

"How many?"

"Eighteen."

"All of them about you."

"So many?"

Bai Jue was genuinely surprised.

"But why me? Because I awakened Zhongyuan?"

"Exactly."

Sikong Xi nodded and walked closer, her tone growing serious.

"Zhongyuan Festival is terrifyingly powerful. Once you grow, the impact you can make will be enormous."

"You should already know that there are countless spatial gates on our planet now. Some lead to other civilizations and races—most of which are eager to invade."

"War is constant."

"And every single war costs countless lives."

She paused.

"Zhongyuan Festival…"

Her voice deepened.

"Once fully developed, you alone could guard a spatial gate. More than that—you could suppress an entire civilization by yourself."

"That's how valuable you are."

"…That strong?"

Bai Jue's pupils contracted slightly.

He knew Zhongyuan was powerful—but suppressing an entire civilization alone?

That went beyond "powerful."

That was terrifying.

No wonder Sikong Xi—clearly someone with significant authority—had personally come to recruit him the moment he awakened.

"Don't underestimate yourself."

Sikong Xi smiled faintly and tossed a document onto the desk.

"This is the Night Watchers' contract. If you're willing to join, sign it."

"As long as you're with us, I guarantee you'll grow quickly. With your ability, becoming an independent or joining the military would be a waste."

"Only the Night Watchers truly suit you."

"And to be honest—Tiankui City is just a stepping stone for you. One day, you'll head to one of the Twelve Main Cities."

"I just hope that when that day comes, you won't forget Tiankui City."

Bai Jue nodded thoughtfully and picked up the contract.

A confidentiality agreement.

After a moment's consideration, he signed his name.

Then he looked up at her.

"So… should I call you Captain now? Or President?"

"Captain, of course."

Sikong Xi blinked and smiled.

'President' is just what ordinary people call me. To the public, Night Watchers appear as merchant guilds in each city."

She paused, then continued with a grin.

"And now that you've joined the Night Watchers, as your captain…"

"I should give you a gift."

As she spoke, Sikong Xi reached into her desk drawer and pulled out another stack of documents, handing them to Bai Jue.

He took them and opened the file.

The moment he saw the contents, his pupils shrank sharply.

"Well?" Sikong Xi asked with a smile. "Not a bad gift, right?"

"Extremely good."

Bai Jue nodded firmly, excitement blazing in his eyes.

The file was thick—forty to fifty pages in total.

Each page detailed specific areas within Tiankui City where vengeful spirits were currently present.

With the Night Watchers' strength, dealing with these spirits would have been trivial.

The fact that they hadn't—

Clearly meant only one thing.

They were being left for him.

After all—

He could absorb vengeful spirits.
