Chapter 26
Two weeks had passed since Lucian sent the letter to Dumbledore, after that, apart from Hermione and Ron suddenly sporting new pairs of spectacles on their noses, it seemed as though nothing else had changed at all.
When the damp, cold mist began to spread across the lawns and seep into the castle, October had already arrived.
Although Headmaster Dumbledore had previously, under the pretext of "preventing colds," tactfully suggested that students should try not to wander alone recently — especially near damp bathrooms — a sudden wave of colds still swept through both staff and students, leaving Madam Pomfrey, the matron, completely overwhelmed.
Fortunately, after Lucian issued the notice that "even if you miss the monthly exam due to a cold, you will have to make it up next Sunday," more than half of the upper-year students suffering from colds miraculously recovered almost overnight.
As for everything else, Lucian didn't particularly care. He had some thoughts about the progress of the Chamber of Secrets incident, but he wasn't in any particular hurry.
After one month on the job, he had gradually grown accustomed to teaching and had developed a thorough understanding of every student in his class — their personalities, their talents, everything.
Things were slowly becoming effortless.
At this point, he decided it was time to officially introduce the "Magical Stage Drama" teaching method starting with the fourth-years.
"Magical stage drama? Professor, are you asking us to act in a play? Then what happens to actual lessons?" In the classroom, Cedric was the first to raise an "objection."
Lucian looked at the student he had been most satisfied with over the past month, nodded, and knew that the boy was actually trying to help him. "Among all seven years, you are the year I like the most."
After teaching for a month and spending that same month "battling" with a group of unfortunate children over homework, Lucian had more or less learned how to tell a lie with a straight face.
Looking at the group of students who were grinning foolishly, he continued "I've decided to put extra effort into all of you — to make learning fun, to let you study magic while enjoying yourselves. This is a privilege that belongs only to you fourth-years."
"Learning magic while having fun?"
"Exactly. Starting today, our learning schedule will change to one unit of progress per week." Lucian waved his wand, and twelve copies of character scripts flew out, landing neatly in the hands of the twelve students.
Although Cedric felt a little worried — such a change might affect their academic progress — he was still curious enough to open the booklet and take a look.
Wizard Continent I Am Legend
This is a world of magic. In this world, every person can learn magic, divided into many realms according to different levels of magical power.
The magical world is filled with powerhouses.
As a young man about to step into this world, can you go all the way and become the ultimate legend?
Your Role — Massey Johnston; You are a member of the mixed-blood Johnston family.
In order to fight over the Galleon mine, your family has frequent conflicts with Pasley family.
When you were three years old, your father was killed by a powerful dark wizard from the Pasley family. Your mother, grief-stricken day and night, soon passed away as well. The tragedy of your childhood filled your heart with hatred, and the loss of both parents left you without any support within the family.
Even worse; you are a Squib — completely incapable of casting spells — and are often bullied by other members of the family.
Cedric frowned slightly. His strong sense of empathy quickly allowed him to step into the shoes of this pitiful character. Come to think of it… Mr. Filch, the caretaker of Hogwarts, was also a Squib. He often suffered because of it, which was probably why he was so strict with the students.
Cedric turned to the next page.
Act I · Abandoned Library
As a Squib, today you were once again mocked and driven out of the house's training room by your peers. "Why come here when you can't even cast a spell, stop coming into our sight."
"Why not? We're all from the same family. I'm not even in your way — why won't you let me practice?"
"Why not? What, you little Squib, got a problem with that?"
Because of your small rebellion you were severely taught a lesson. Afterward, you were punished by being sent to clean the long-abandoned library. While cleaning, you discover a dust-covered wand that has been waiting for your call all this time!
Lucian's script was written in great detail. Cedric, who had never really been exposed to this kind of reading material before, quickly became immersed.
Unfortunately, just as he finished Act I and wanted to continue, Lucian's voice rang out.
"Everyone, stop after finishing Act I."
"…"
Although he desperately wanted to know what happened next, Cedric obediently stopped. When he turned his head, he saw that — sure enough — a few students had ignored the warning and were trying to flip to the next page.
But they quickly discovered that all the pages after Act I were magically glued together and couldn't be opened at all. It seemed that without Lucian's permission, they really wouldn't be able to read Act II.
"Alright. Everyone has received their role. From now on, you must act according to the logic and personality of the character in the script. Understand? Just like performing in a play."
"It sounds interesting, but— Professor, will this really help us learn magic?"
A Ravenclaw student pushed up the glasses on the bridge of her nose and asked calmly.
"Of course. You already have a solid theoretical foundation, and your bodies have already memorised all the key points of spellcasting. Now is the time to test and apply what you've learned."
While answering her question, Lucian waved his wand again.
Under the shocked gazes of all the young wizards, every desk and chair in the room floated into the air on its own, quickly rising into the sky and vanishing. The classroom in their eyes began to stretch and expand infinitely. Dozens of magical training dummies rose from the ground. The floor beneath their feet was bathed in rainbow light and transformed into yellow dirt.
"Alright. Let's try it once and see the actual effect. If your performance doesn't satisfy me, I will decisively cancel this course and consider letting other years try it instead." The display of power Lucian had just shown was too astonishing and cleanly stunned every student present.
The moment they heard that their performance would determine whether the course continued, the slightly playful smiles on their faces instantly vanished.
'Are you kidding? This was a privilege exclusive to fourth-years! They had only just received it and hadn't even had the chance to brag to the other years yet — how could they let it disappear so easily?'
'Besides, who would want to sit through boring theory lessons every day when they could learn while having fun? …Well, the practical lessons after theory weren't bad, to be fair.'
In an instant, everyone's motivation was fully ignited.
Cedric stood nervously on the training ground — this was his first time performing in a play, after all, so he couldn't help feeling a little tense.
Moreover, the professor had temporarily taken away his wand…
Standing opposite him was a pure-blood student with a rather strange expression on his face. According to the script, his name was Ryan Johnston — the annoying guy who had driven "Massey" out of the training grounds.
"C-Cedric—"
The moment he opened his mouth, Cedric gently shook his head at him. The other students who were each trying to get into character quietly reminded him.
"No, it's Massey Johnston."
"Oh— right! Massey! You useless Squib, you don't even have the talent to cast spells, and yet you still have the nerve to hang around the practise room every single day?"
The pure-blood student quickly slipped into his role — actually, he felt this character suited his way of thinking quite well 'A Squib, huh? Wasn't learning magic just a waste of time for someone like that?'
