Chapter 8 - The Results Of The Three Day Break

Their homeroom teacher was a skinny man dressed in a lavender cardigan. He had dirty blonde hair and a warm smile.

"Hello, everyone, my name is Jonathan Hill, and I will be your homeroom teacher."

"Today we will just be going over our schedule for the foreseeable future, then we will go to the training room for initial checks."

"For the next week, I will be teaching you the habits of the monsters in the Greenhill dungeon, as well as general skill knowledge you will need in the future. You will then attend your respective combat classes where you will practice your skills."

Mr. Hill spoke with authority, and nobody dared to interrupt. All the instructors for the combat awakened classes were at least low-ranking hunters themselves. Which meant he was the most powerful person in the room by far.

"Another thing to mention is that every E-rank," He stared down at Cassian, "Is given the opportunity and is required to meet with individual future planners, to give intention to your future actions. They will give information on what you need to do to acquire certain skills and generally help decide your future path."

Almost every student was getting extremely excited; every single kid dreamed of becoming a glorious hunter. However, they were now living it; they could work hard to become stronger and decide their own fate.

"Finally, this Thursday, a hunter official will come to the school to register all of you, and Friday, you will dive into the Greenhill dungeon for your first leveling opportunity."

 Everybody cheered.

"Let's go on to the initial checks."

Mr. Hill snapped his fingers, and Cassian flinched.

Only one person noticed this.

'Just what happened to him?' She questioned.

The class made their way to the training room, which had various equipment, but today they were just there for one.

A giant drum-like machine was held in place against a wall. It was a measurement machine that could calculate the power of any attack that hits it, to a certain limit.

The class was there to measure the results of their three-day self-discovery. It was also an opportunity to create the initial hierarchy based on the students' strength.

"Joshua Thorn." The first person called up was a warrior. It was one of the most basic classes, but it was not weak.

"Power Slash." He yelled and attacked with all his might. It was one of the skills Cassian was trying to obtain; it dealt damage equal to 130% strength.

Normal attacks deal damage based on a proportion of strength and agility, so relying on one makes it easier to specialize.

The number 8.94 showed on a screen above the drum.

"Eight point nine four, not a bad start."

Mr. Hill said while recording.

In actuality, Cassian considered it quite average. He got boosted stats from the awakening and equipment, and had one skill. If he didn't have that much, he was a failure.

People were continually lined up, and each gave their own attempt.

One common factor stood out about those who scored higher: they all had mage-type classes. Magic classes are all based on the intelligence stat, which means they could easily specialize in one stat.

However, one person broke all imagination.

"Alizée De Glacielle." Everybody looked appreciatively at her beautiful face or slim but desirable body.

She was still a goddess, and she was in their class.

She confidently walked to the drum and raised her arm into the air.

"Fire Arrow."

A giant arrow of fire emerged from her hand and blasted into the drum; the sound of a small explosion knocked the weird glances out of everybody.

'A skill scroll.' Cassian observed.

Physically learning and levelling up aren't the only ways to learn skills. Skill scrolls were another option; they were rare and extremely expensive, so it was never an option for him. However, Alizée came from a rich family, it would be expensive but was not out of their bound.

13.3

The numbers outclassed everyone, but Cassian knew it was a hoax. The fire Arrow skill deals 140% damage based on intelligence and inflicts burn, which deals damage over time. Alizée was in the top five in terms of grades, which means her starting intelligence was not low; combined with five stat points meant that she was holding back. The device didn't calculate the burn damage dealt over time.

She wasn't using any equipment either, not to mention what the school provided. If her family supported her with matching equipment, she could double her damage

Nobody stood out besides her from the rest of the class, and finally, it was his turn.

"The F-rank is going up now, but his damage won't even reach five."

"What a loser, I can't believe he once thought he was at the top of the school."

People didn't even bother to whisper and blatantly insulted him.

It was fine since he didn't bother to listen.

Cassian listlessly walked over to the drum-like machine and drew his sword; he already had an idea of what the result would be.

He activated sword slash and swung with all his strength.

The numbers appeared above the drum.

9.66

He was slightly above average, and it didn't taste very pleasant.

What he had done to obtain these numbers was awful. He survived heinous torture to increase his stats, and every second not being tortured was filled with training. He even awakened an extra skill, yet he was just average, and the main reason was inferior equipment.

Cassian retreated despite the cruel jeers of the people shouting at him.

"Just wait until we level up."

"You won't be laughing then."

However, with that, homeroom was over. Now, Cassian had to go to the weapons class.

Homeroom was divided by rank, but the other class was based directly on the type of class one awakened. Since Cassian awakened as a swordsman, he would be sent to the weapons class.

The weapons class was not entirely divided by rank, so he would be able to fight E, D, and C ranks.

B, A, and S-ranks got placed into a separate class with more elite teachers.
