The Hero was arriving.
And Gale heard the news. A shadow was born this time. Something never seen before. Was it a trick by the Shadow god or did the usually neutral god want to help this time.
Too many questions.
But all she knew was the task at hand. She had make the Hero as strong as possible.
And if a shadow did that, then she would welcome it.
On the other hand, She wouldn't hesitate.
To kill him.
The doors swung open and the twins followed a priest in, closely followed by two paladins adorned with gold detailed armor.
"Wow!!! It's really you," Elion said. Gale's cheeks blushed. "Commander Red". Gale frowned.
She had her division coordinators behind her standing up. And out of the six of them Commander Red seemed to steal her attention.
"I'm pleased the hero knows of me. I look forward to teaching you the sword young one" Red responded respectfully, "but for now let me introduce the dean" He smiled as he gave her a teasing look.
"No need. I am very capable thank you red," She glared. "I am Gale the 14th Dean of Dragon Spire Academy. We're very pleased to have you Hero Elion... Shadow Kael."
Her warm smile flickered for a second as her gaze went upon Kael.
"No last name?" Kael asked sensing her analyzing him.
"Very perceptive Kael!!"
"Kael, That's Gale!!! THE Gale" Elion cheered. "You know, 3rd youngest tower master in history. The only tower master to come from common birth."
"Hehe, I did stop a revolution" she bragged teasingly looking over at Commander Red.
"Now remember kids just because of the rank of your path doesn't mean it'll be an easy one. Nor does it mean you'll be strong," The old woman stated matter of factually. "I personally awakened a black path and look at me now." Her smile was warm but her gaze was cold.
She protested that the paladins remain outside but they insisted. The church had it's way of sticking it's nose in everyone's business even when it had no right too.
Everyone knew the dean's story. Born as a commoner awakened like a commoner but through
But atlas Gale wanted to remind the kids especially ones with such importance. effort and sacrifice she climbed her way up the ranks of magic towers showing the world that skill triumphs over everything else in this world.
And for their Journey they needed a lot of skill.
A lot of skill.

The dormitories were in separate buildings from the castle. Not as extravagant as the outside of the castle but it served it's purpose. Especially for Elion. As the Hero, he was given a studio with multiple rooms and even his own maid.
As for Kael... He got the attic.
Originally the studio was meant for both of them but when Elion found out he'd still be sharing space with Kael he asked if he could sleep somewhere else.
As if his mouth moved on it's own, he agreed. He didn't even get the chance to say anything else before the priest smiled, disassembled his bed and threw him and the parts in the attic.
"Serves a shadow right," the priest snarled before slamming the door.
"I'm not a shadow though. I'm a person," Kael sobbed. But there was nobody to comfort him. Mom and Dad were gone.
He was lucky to be alive.
...
Elion was happy. He had gotten his own room as well as scoring his brother his own. This hero stuff seemed easy. But the priest and the paladins were annoying.
They watched over every single thing he did. But finally he closed the door to one of his rooms and told the men that he had to pray with the goddess alone.
He knew using her name in vein was a sin but he valued his privacy a lot more.
He finally had the space to check his status without some priest yapping over his shoulder.

"What do you think? My child." a warm gentle voice rang out.
Elion flinched.
Looking around the room he saw no one. But he knew who it was. The goddess was speaking to him.
"It's amazing goddess!!! I haven't even taken my first steps on my path but I know it. I won't fail you."
"That's splendid my child. Your Aurelion family would be so proud." Her voice soothing and calm.
"Wow!! You know my house. MY house. Do you know uncle as well?." The goddess giggled at the purity of her chosen.
"Yes Elion. I know Uncle Steve. More importantly I have a quest for you my child"
"What is it? your highness". The goddess seemed happy at his manners.

"Oh and one last thing, my child. It breaks my heart to warn you but be careful of Kael. His path is forbidden for a reason."
"Why?? Goddess why did you curse my brother so?? Why is his path forbidden??"
"Hff" The goddess sighed. "So much to tell you child. All you need to know is that I did not gift him his path."
"You.... Huh... But you give out all the paths."
"Not the forbidden paths my child"
"So who gave Kael his path?"
"I wish I had the authority to tell you child. But for now our time comes to an end. Farewell Elion. Take care my child."

At the similar time Kael received a similar quest to Elion

Kael winced.
Quests were extremely rare. Especially ones like these. They were often heavily desired due to the insane path rewards given by the goddess.
But he didn't want a quest. The rewards were boutiful true, but the penalty was extremely severe.
Kael didn't even have free will.
How was he meant to even complete this.
