Chapter 50 - Preparation

Those things should be coming soon—Arthur knew it well.

Sure enough, in the night sky, the torches cast the shadows of those ghostly things.

They were flying around the training target…

What are those?

Although Komini was currently wearing the Platinum Armor, she had never played Terraria and felt no sense of security—especially with the light, airy feel of this EGO armor, which made her feel as if her defense was nonexistent.

Calm down… calm down…

She began to recall what Arthur had taught her to do when facing Terraria monsters…

Just like in Lobotomy Corporation, the more you fear these Abnormalities, the more likely you are to fall into panic—and once you fall into panic, your fate is basically sealed.

Komini tightly gripped the Terra Blade in her hand and began to meticulously search for the monsters wandering in the night sky.

But before she could find them—

Along with a sudden pain, a blow from behind knocked her back a few steps.

?!

Komini spun around and slashed, but the things had already flown away. However, at the last moment, she still clearly saw what the thing looked like…

It was a swollen, fist-sized eyeball, oozing pus…

[Name: Komini

Courage: 1 HP: 268 / 318

Prudence: 1 SP: 15 / 17]

Arthur stood in the distance, but he could still check the child's panel data.

Both the red and blue bars had receded quite a bit.

The damage was about what he expected, as the Demon Eye's attack power really was that high on Master difficulty.

But only now did Arthur realize that because this was the first time he had let Komini face enemies alone—and also the first time she had spent a night in Terraria—he had overlooked a very important point…

Unlike the original Terraria, this was not a game. Any fear would directly reduce one's sanity.

And in Lobotomy Corporation, once sanity drops to zero, employees fall into a state of madness… the only treatment is to suppress the crazed employee using mental-type EGO.

But this time, he hadn't prepared any mental EGO.

This child… won't she go insane in the world of Terraria…?

Arthur leaned against the wall, frowning, suddenly realizing that this possibility was far from small.

If she really lost her sanity here, he would have no way to save her. Because once they exited the containment room of G-01-05, anyone still remaining in Terraria would be completely lost.

Just as he was considering whether to step forward and interrupt Komini's special training—

The continuously declining blue bar finally stopped.

It stabilized at:

[SP: 10 / 17]

This is…

Arthur looked on with some surprise as Komini began to move again in the distance.

She started running across the wooden platform. Although her movements were still somewhat clumsy, she had clearly regained her composure.

After all… Demon Eyes.

These fist-sized, swollen eyeballs—judging purely by how disgusting they were—were honestly not much worse than the Abnormalities contained in Lobotomy Corporation.

And aside from pain, she realized her body hadn't actually suffered any severe injuries… This was already far better than working with something like Fairy Festival.

Just as Senior Arthur said, these monsters don't have much intelligence…

Komini endured repeated attacks from nearby Demon Eyes. Their assaults were all linear, and once she got used to their rhythm, dodging individual charges was no longer difficult.

Let me try…

As another monster rushed toward her, she relied on the experience granted by her EGO Equipment, sidestepped, and swung the Terra Blade in her hand.

The blade erupted into countless pale-green streaks of light.

Poof.

The cutting wind struck true.

Yellowish-white pus burst from the Demon Eye's soft interior, spraying through the gaps of her platinum helmet and splattering onto her face. The smell was foul—yet terrifyingly real.

Two hours later.

Only after Arthur confirmed that Komini had fully adapted to the Demon Eyes' appearance without suffering a mental collapse—and that her footwork had stabilized—did he finally wave her back.

"The total treatment cost is 7 silver coins."

The Nurse walked past Komini, signaling that the treatment was complete.

Just a simple touch had cost money, which made Komini feel it was all a bit excessive.

As she reluctantly handed over the silver coins, she complained to Arthur.

"Senior, if only I had a gun… why can't I use one?"

"It'd be useless even if you did."

Arthur looked down, rubbing something shiny in his hands.

Even if she had a firearm, without EGO buffs, her awful marksmanship probably wouldn't hit these fast-moving targets anyway.

But that wasn't the real reason.

There was only one truth.

Only Terraria-native weapons can deal meaningful damage to bosses in the world of Terraria.

The Guide had told him this yesterday.

The reason Decisive Heart could still inflict damage here was solely because of its EGO properties—but that bonus would likely be negligible against boss-level entities.

And the first firearm in Terraria could only be obtained by destroying a Crimson Heart…

Which was territory neither he nor Komini dared approach yet.

"Here. Use this."

Arthur handed her the finished item.

"What is this?"

Komini stared at the object in her hands.

Two blue crystals—very similar to Life Crystals.

[Item Name: Mana Crystal

Grade: ALEPH

Effect: Consumable. Permanently increases the user's maximum SP by 20.

(Each user may consume up to 10 Mana Crystals, increasing their SP cap by 200.)

Description:

No one knows where these fallen stars originate, nor why they enhance one's spirit and magic…]

"Just use them."

Arthur stood up.

This was only their first night on the Terraria surface, and he hadn't collected many fallen stars. It had taken three just to synthesize a single Mana Crystal.

Giving Komini two of them still made him uneasy—but her previous SP of 17 was far too dangerous.

Only after watching her status panel improve significantly did Arthur finally relax.

He stood up and handed her several potions.
