Chapter 39 - A Bountiful Harvest—Devouring and Leveling Up Once More

Akuna never expected Ma Jun to be so shameless.

To actually make that kind of request straight to her face!

She had already chosen not to pursue what he did last night—treating it as tacit consent to that one incident.

But today, he was pushing his luck, demanding even more!

He clearly knew the requirements of the Akuna family's bestowal tied to the Grace fungal silk.

Only the most intimate bond could complete the bestowal!

He had already completed the bestowal with her three daughters—

and now he still wanted her too?!

Akuna's body trembled slightly.

Her mind replayed last night again. Though her consciousness hadn't been entirely clear, flashes of memory still surfaced from time to time—along with the sensations.

That made her feel unbearably embarrassed.

At the same time, something felt oddly wrong.

Ma Jun didn't look particularly tall or robust—he only reached her chest—yet his development was… abnormally compatible.

Shockingly so.

"Madam, this isn't for my sake alone," Ma Jun said solemnly, as though he were making a perfectly righteous and natural request.

"I believe you can feel it too. The Grace fungal silk inside your body has already calmed down a lot."

"Once the conditions for bestowal are fully met, the hidden danger of it going berserk will disappear completely."

Akuna froze.

"Really?"

"Of course—just like Beilei and the others—"

"Shut up!"

Akuna flared up in embarrassment again. "You're not allowed to mention them!"

"Alright."

Ma Jun smiled.

Akuna's heart was in chaos.

Her keen instincts told her that what Ma Jun said was very likely true.

After last night, she had clearly felt the Grace fungal silk grow much calmer.

What should she do?

Should she agree?

The two greatest burdens tormenting her were the blood disease and the berserk risk of the Grace fungal silk.

And now—Ma Jun could solve both?!

Gratitude quietly took root in her heart.

If this was all true, then Ma Jun was the great benefactor of the Akuna family.

Rejecting a benefactor's request… didn't feel right.

After much hesitation, she finally steeled herself.

"Fine. I agree!"

"But I have one condition—you must keep it hidden from my daughters."

"No problem," Ma Jun replied easily.

That was all he wanted anyway—

to devour the Grace fungal silk and upgrade [Praise].

Akuna stood up stiffly, turning around with exaggerated heaviness.

Her movements looked noticeably unnatural.

Ma Jun nodded in satisfaction.

He only wanted to become stronger.

In the horror game, only by growing stronger and surviving would he have a chance to find clues about his parents.

If that meant occasionally "driving a big truck," so be it.

Late at night, when everything was quiet, Ma Jun slipped out of his room.

Stepping on the soft carpet, his Agility of 10 made his movements almost completely silent.

He reached Akuna's door—it was already ajar.

Gently pushing it open a crack, he slipped inside.

By the moonlight, he could see Akuna sitting on the edge of the bed. Her tall figure was striking.

Her breathing was slightly hurried, clearly revealing her inner turmoil.

"Madam, it's already the seventh day," Ma Jun said casually. "Haven't you gotten used to it yet?"

"Shut up!"

Akuna was extremely embarrassed.

This was the seventh day since she had returned to the castle.

Ever since she agreed to Ma Jun's request, every night he would sneak out to meet her in secret.

She felt like a noble young lady secretly meeting her lover behind her parents' backs.

The thrill made the experience strangely intoxicating.

She had to admit—she might actually be starting to like it.

"Hurry up!"

"Alright."

Ma Jun stepped closer. Under the moonlight, the black silk reflected a glossy, cold sheen.

He remembered mentioning it once.

Akuna remembered it too.

Soon, the temperature in the room rose noticeably.

"It worked!"

Akuna shouted in delight. "I can feel it—the Grace fungal silk has calmed down!"

"It's completely stabilized!"

Ma Jun was just as happy. Subduing the fungal silk inside her body had taken a tremendous amount of effort.

Seven straight days!

If it hadn't worked soon, they would've exceeded the fourteen-day limit.

Thankfully, right as the fourteenth day arrived, they finally succeeded.

Akuna's gaze toward Ma Jun grew much gentler.

"Thank you."

She lowered her head shyly, her neckline plunging into an unfathomable abyss.

"It's nothing. We're just helping each other."

Akuna seemed to think of something, her face flushing again.

Then she reached inside her body and extracted the Grace fungal silk.

Ma Jun's eyes lit up.

Unlike his own, Akuna's fungal silk carried a faint pinkish hue—

it even looked a little girlish.

"Come on!"

Ma Jun couldn't wait. He removed [Praise] from his equipment slot and held it in his hand.

The glossy white fungal silk, faintly tinged with gold, swayed gently.

[Beep! Discovered a homologous item. Devouring now!]

Very quickly, the two clumps of fungal silk fused together.

[Praise]'s attributes changed accordingly.
