Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: The Blood Moon Trial

The night of the Blood Moon arrived, red and ominous in the sky. The palace courtyards were empty, but every shadow seemed alive, every whisper of wind carrying the weight of expectation.

Seraphina stood at the center of the grand arena, her heart pounding. The runes on the floor pulsed faintly under her feet, sensing her growing power. Every breath she took was measured, every movement deliberate.

Kael was at her side, protective, tense, impossibly close. His hand brushed hers, grounding her, warning her, claiming her.

"You're ready," he murmured, voice low, dark. "But this… will push you further than you've ever been."

Seraphina nodded, swallowing hard. "Then I'll survive. And I'll win."

The council appeared, their faces pale under the Blood Moon's glow. Lady Mirella stood among them, lips curved in a cruel smile.

"Seraphina," the High Elder said, voice echoing across the arena, "you will demonstrate control over your power. Fail, and the council will decide your fate."

A hush fell.

Kael tightened his grip on her hand. "No one touches you," he whispered. "Understand?"

Her gaze met his. "I understand."

The trial began. Shadows rose from the ground, forming creatures of darkness, each more threatening than the last. Seraphina felt the spark inside her respond. Power surged in waves, trembling and hungry, ready to obey her will.

Kael guided her movements subtly, his presence a tether. "Control it," he said. "Focus."

With every strike, with every command, the shadows bowed to her. She moved with precision, her power dancing, bending, and breaking the darkness. The council watched, astonished, murmuring among themselves.

Then a new threat emerged—a figure cloaked in black, faster, stronger, a test she hadn't anticipated.

Kael stepped forward immediately, eyes blazing. "Stay behind me," he said, voice low and fierce.

"I'm not behind you," she said, voice steady despite the fear twisting in her chest. "I'm with you."

Their eyes met, unspoken understanding passing between them. Together, they were unstoppable.

Kael's hand brushed hers again as he moved, their synchronization perfect, movements echoing the intimate tension building between them. Every touch ignited sparks beneath her skin.

The figure lunged. Seraphina commanded her power fully, a pulse of red energy pushing the shadow back. Kael moved like a shadow himself, intercepting threats, their combined force a storm no one could withstand.

When the last shadow fell, the arena went silent. The council stared, shocked. Even the Devil King, watching from above, inclined his head with subtle approval.

Kael turned to her, chest heaving, eyes dark with need and pride. "You did it," he whispered, fingers brushing her cheek.

"I did it… with you," she murmured, her voice soft, intimate.

He captured her hand, pressing it to his chest. "Always. You and me, Seraphina. Against the world."

She leaned closer, brushing her lips against his jaw in a fleeting, daring kiss—spicy, teasing, dangerous.

Kael's eyes darkened, lips hovering near hers. "One day soon… I won't stop myself," he murmured.

Seraphina smiled faintly, pulse racing. "Then I'll be ready."

The Blood Moon glowed brighter above them, casting its red light over the victorious pair. Power, passion, and desire intertwined—stronger than the council's judgment, stronger than any shadow that dared rise against them.
