Chapter 5 - The Weakest Monster in the Mad Forest

I stared at the Bigfoot.

Its body was completely covered in thick, dark fur, towering over me like a living mountain. Every breath it took sounded heavy and primal, like the growl of a beast that had never known mercy.

"…It's huge."

The Bigfoot stared back at me.

Its crimson eyes glowed faintly in the darkness, filled with nothing but instinct and bloodlust. There was no intelligence in its gaze—only hunger.

We locked eyes.

For a brief moment, neither of us moved.

Then I muttered quietly.

"…Ugly."

The Bigfoot exploded with rage.

—ROAAAAARR!!

The earth trembled as it roared, the sound echoing through the forest like thunder. Without hesitation, I spun around and ran with everything I had.

"SHIT—!"

Branches scratched my arms as I sprinted through the trees. Behind me, the sound of heavy footsteps crushed the ground, each step shaking my bones.

While running for my life, I screamed internally—and externally—at the cursed system.

"HEY! YOU CRAZY SYSTEM! YOU LIED TO ME, DIDN'T YOU?! YOU SAID IT WAS A WEAK MONSTER! WHY THE HELL IS IT A BIGFOOT?!"

The Bigfoot roared again, closing the distance frighteningly fast.

[There is no mistake, Master.]

"No mistake my ass! That thing is bigger than a goblin! It should be way stronger than those green freaks!"

I shouted while gasping for breath.

The Bigfoot slammed its fists against tree trunks as it ran, splintering bark and wood like paper.

—ROAAARR!!

[Tall does not equal strong, Master.]

"…HUH?!"

[That Bigfoot is the weakest monster in this forest.]

"ARE YOU INSANE?!"

I nearly tripped over a root but managed to keep running.

"That thing could snap me in half like a twig!"

[Master, why don't you fight it?]

I almost laughed from sheer disbelief.

"Fight it?! Are you out of your damn mind?! I can't fight that thing!"

I yelled while sprinting.

"…Do you at least know its weakness?!"

[Of course i know, Master.]

My eyes widened.

"THEN WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY SO FROM THE START, YOU BASTARD?!"

[Because you didn't ask.]

"…."

For a brief moment, I sincerely wished the system had a physical form—just so I could choke it with my bare hands.

Having a system like this wasn't a blessing.

It was a test of sanity.

Trying to calm myself while running, I asked again.

"Fine! Then where is its weak point?!"

[Its weak point is its heels. If you manage to slash both of its heels, it will become immobilized and unable to move.]

"…The heels?"

That sounded oddly specific.

Alright. I could work with that.

But then another problem hit me immediately.

"…HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO DO THAT?! I DON'T EVEN HAVE A WEAPON!"

[If you don't possess a sharp weapon, you can use a small tree branch as a temporary weapon.]

"…A branch?"

That actually made sense.

Small branches often had sharp ends when broken. It wouldn't be ideal—but right now, it was better than nothing.

I scanned my surroundings desperately while running.

Branches… branches…

Then, about three meters ahead, I spotted it.

A small fallen branch lying near the base of a tree. One end looked jagged and sharp.

"Yes…!"

I veered toward it and grabbed the branch mid-run.

"Got it!"

I stopped running.

Turned around.

And faced the Bigfoot.

The moment I saw it charging straight at me, my entire body screamed danger. My legs trembled violently, fear creeping into my bones.

"Huh… come on… you can do this…"

I forced myself to breathe.

Then I ran straight toward it.

The distance closed rapidly.

The Bigfoot swung its massive arm, reaching out to grab me.

At the last second, I slid under its reach, my body scraping against the dirt. Using that momentum, I twisted myself and aimed low.

Now!

I stabbed the branch into its right heel.

—SPLASH!

The Bigfoot roared in pain.

—ROAAAAAARR!!

I yanked the branch out immediately.

"Yes! The right heel is injured!"

One more.

Just one more.

But—

I didn't notice in time.

The Bigfoot's hand shot forward and wrapped tightly around my neck.

"K—KHGH!!"

My vision blurred instantly.

It lifted me off the ground like I weighed nothing.

Then—

BOOM!

It slammed my body into the earth.

Again.

And again.

And again.

I felt bones crack.

Pain exploded throughout my body.

Blood sprayed from my mouth.

I couldn't breathe.

I couldn't scream.

I'm going to die.

My consciousness faded.

Why?

Why does this world hate me so much?

I was dragged into this world from the sky.

Thrown into a monstrous forest.

Attacked nonstop.

And now…

I was being beaten to death by a Bigfoot.

Why…

Why…?!

Then—

My mind snapped back.

No.

No, damn it.

I'm not dying like this.

With the last bit of strength I had, I bit down hard on the Bigfoot's arm.

CRUNCH—

"…NGH!!!"

My teeth screamed in pain.

Blood filled my mouth.

It wasn't the Bigfoot's blood.

It was mine.

My teeth were cracking against its hardened skin.

But I didn't let go.

I clawed at its arm with my nails, tearing into its flesh.

"BASTARD!!!"

I screamed through clenched teeth.

The Bigfoot roared in pain, loosening its grip.

I fell to the ground, gasping for air.

"Hah… hah…!"

The Bigfoot staggered back slightly, its arm bleeding.

Now!

I grabbed the branch again and rushed forward.

With everything I had left, I stabbed its left heel.

"DIE!!!"

—ROAAAAARR!!

The Bigfoot collapsed.

Its massive body slammed into the ground, shaking the forest.

It couldn't move.

Just like the system said.

I stood over it, shaking, covered in blood and sweat.

It was still alive.

Breathing.

I raised the branch and stabbed its head.

Too shallow.

I pushed harder.

"Die… DIE, YOU BASTARD!!!"

I screamed at the top of my lungs.

The Bigfoot roared weakly, its voice filled with desperation.

But mercy had long left my heart.

I pushed the branch deeper.

CRACK.

I felt bone give way.

I pushed again.

The branch pierced its skull.

And then—

Silence.

The Bigfoot was dead.

"Hah… hah…"

I dropped to my knees on its corpse.

"…This… is exhausting…"

After some time…

With guidance from the system, I managed to start a campfire.

Using a sharp stone I found near the waterfall, I cut chunks of Bigfoot meat.

The smell of roasting meat filled the air.

As I ate, I felt something strange.

My broken bones…

They were slowly healing.

It hurt.

A lot.

But it was happening.

Then—

[Congratulations, Master. Authority has granted me permission to assign you a mission with a reward, due to your successful kill of a low-class monster.]

I let out a tired chuckle.

"Hah… took you long enough, but… good."

In this world…

I was taught to be grateful for what I had.

No matter how small.

I looked at the remaining Bigfoot corpse.

This would last me at least a month.

I lay back and stared at the night sky.

"…At least the sky here is beautiful."

The stars filled the darkness.

I reached my hand upward.

Somewhere among those stars…

There might be my old world.

I wanted to go back.

To live a normal life.

To be a simple office worker.

To live peacefully.

But fate had other plans.

I was sent to this insane world.

With missing memories.

I couldn't remember the day before I arrived here.

Thinking about it made my head ache.

I sighed and took another bite of meat.

"Ouch… still hot…"

And as the fire crackled beside me, I realized one thing—

This forest was only the beginning.
