Chapter 5 - meeting an old friend

After Kano finished distributing the badges and explaining the prison rules—rules I forgot the moment I stepped out of the room—we were handed our basic necessities inside cheap plastic boxes.

Toothpaste.

Mouthwash.

Two toothbrushes.

Two cloth towels.

A bar of soap…

and—

a condom?

…?

" oooh im so exited to use that on you "The words came from the deformed-faced gorilla as he rested his head on my shoulder, breathing heavily—thick, suffocating breaths, like he was a dog on mating season.

I won't lie—I expected something like this to happen.

But this fast?

I lifted my gaze toward the narrow eyed officer leading the line. He glanced at me briefly then returned his attention forward.

Clearly, he didn't care.

He would only intervene if the line stopped moving.

Otherwise, we were just walking baggage.

"Ugh… man, when was the last time you used mouthwash?"

I said, turning my face away from him.

"If you're worried about yours running out, don't stress… I'll share mine."

It might sound like a joke, but I was completely serious.

The smell of his breath…

The worst smell I had ever experienced in my life.

I thought I had built immunity to disgusting odors after everything I'd been through.

Apparently… I was wrong.

The gorilla's face flushed red with embarrassment as he nervously glanced behind him, checking whether anyone had heard me.

Behind him stood Yuzuru.

Their eyes met for a brief moment.

"Heh."

Yuzuru smiled—a mocking, razor-sharp grin that only made Dai's—no, the gorilla's—face grow even redder.

"T-There's nothing funny!!"

He yelled at him.

Yuzuru didn't say a word.

He simply pinched his nose shut with his right hand.

"Oh… I thought he was joking."

"You three. Step aside."

The officer at the front stopped abruptly, freezing the entire line behind him. Every pair of eyes turned toward us.

Us?

The two behind me had the same reaction.

"Oh. Great."

Yuzuru muttered as he stepped aside near the cell door, irritation clear on his face.

I did the same, standing to Yuzuru's left.

As for Dai…

Instead of standing, he sat down on the floor in front of the iron door.

I stared at him in disbelief.

Does this guy have a mental disability?

Didn't he hear the order?

Stand aside—not sit aside!

I looked up at the officer.

He was staring at Dai with terrifying stillness, his narrow eyes opening slightly.

Those eyes weren't joking.

They weren't hesitating.

That's when I understood the difference.

The previous officer was like a goat pretending to be stern.

This one?

He was a hungry wolf waiting for this scenario to happen to use the baton in his hip

This officer… was dangerous.

"Last warning. Stand up."

The officer said calmly.

A bad feeling crept over me, but the idiot—whose survival instinct was in the negatives—remained seated, sticking a finger into his ear.

"dont wanna" he said carelessly, flicking whatever he pulled out.

Silence swallowed the room.

The usual murmurs stopped.

Everyone wanted to see what would happen next.

The officer walked toward Dai—slow, deliberate steps—until he stood directly in front of him.

He was only a few centimeters taller than Dai, but the real difference wasn't height.

It was the gaze.

His eyes glowed with a cold, murderous light—utterly devoid of hesitation

Then he opened his mouth

"Um… S-Sir Daimonji. You are now sitting in front of your dorm cell."

A squeaky voice came from him

..

Huh?

The sound escaped everyone's mouths instinctively—everyone except Yuzuru, who remained silent, his face stiff as stone.

Damn it… for a moment, I was genuinely happy.

I thought the officer was about to slaughter the gorilla in front of us.

Then the words hit me like freezing rain

*Your dorm cell*

"W-Wait… dorm cell?"

My voice came out shakier than I intended.

"I thought we were being assigned alphabetically…"

My panic was justified.

I had mocked the gorilla with foolish confidence, certain fate would separate us—only to learn I'd be locked in the same space as him.

The officer's face hardened instantly. The air itself seemed to change.

His eyes lowered toward me, slow and heavy—utterly merciless.

"Speak. With respect."

The metallic sound of the baton sliding free sliced through the air.

He raised it slowly, aiming toward Yang's face.

"One scratch on his face…" Dai muttered in a sick, low voice,

"and I'll gut you like a pig"

He galred at him

"This man is my wife."

"h-huh ? Oh i see Y-Yes, sir."

The officer said while bowing slightly.

Then he suddenly stopped, as if remembering something.

"Oh. Right. Almost forgot."

He opened the door.

The rusty creak cut through the silence.

Yuzuru entered first without a word

Dai followed.

Yang remained outside.

Standing alone.

Shoulders slumped.

Defeat clearly carved into his face.

Lady Luck had just finished kicking him in the balls a hundred times leaving him choking on his saliva

The officer smiled—a crooked, filthy grin.

"Don't worry. Don't worry at all. I'll provide more condoms if you run out."

He winked.

"No need to worry about diseases."

Im gonna kill this guy

________

When I entered the cell, I was met with horrifying sight

Dai stood naked, blatantly presenting his exposed body to Yang.

Meanwhile, Yuzuru sat on the lower bunk of the double bed at the edge of the room, staring intensely at Dai's backside.

What could possibly drive someone to stare with that much focus?

And why stare at it at all?

"Get on your knees and start sucking."

I lowered my gaze.

Toward his penis.

"Pfffft."

A laugh burst out of me involuntarily.

His penis was practically hidden in his body hair.

"You bastard! Didn't you hear me?!"

Dai bit his lip in rage, the veins on his face bulging, ready to explode.

"Hahahahaha!"

Yang clutched his stomach, laughing uncontrollably.

"W-What hahahaha ! is there to suck?!

I've seen babies with bigger hahahaha ! dicks!"

Tears streamed down Yang's face.

Relief flooded his body.

Sexual assault was off the table now.

Only physical violence remained.

And it was coming.

Dai lunged at him.

His fist shot forward like a bullet.

The hardened skin over his knuckles, the countless scars covering them, proved he wasn't ordinary—he was a seasoned fighter.

Every instinct in Yang screamed as a strange sensation swallowed his body.

The same feeling he'd felt before dying.

In both of his past lives.

Death.

Yang snapped his head to the side instinctively.

DAAANG!!!

A violent metallic grinding sound exploded through the room.

Yang froze, staring at where Dai's punch had landed.

His eyes widened.

"Oi?! Dai m-my friend i was joking really your dick is larger than the average japanese citizen "

" too late for that !!"Dai's hand was embedded deep into the iron cell door—piercing straight through it.

How…?

That strength?!

Yang remembered Dorian—how he shattered hospital walls like wet paper.

" im gonna rape whether you like it or not raaaah ! "Dai roared as he tried to pull his hand out.

It was stuck.

Yang stumbled backward, using the moment to create distance.

If that punch had hit me…

He swallowed.

My head would've burst like a watermelon.

Then something else caught his attention.

The tattoo on Dai's back.

A koi fish, stretching across his back, wrapped in flowing water and floral patterns

.

Dai… is yakuza?

That explains everything

.

Yang backed up until his spine hit the wall.

Damn it… the space is way too tight.

The horny gorilla alone filled the room.

He scanned desperately for anything—anything—that could be used as a weapon.

Nothing.

Empty.

Bare walls. Solid floor.

Everything that once saved him from the biker gang was gone.

No traps.

No weapons.

No time.

No space.

Even the room itself was against him.

Yang slowly closed his eyes.

This is it.

Dai ripped his hand free violently.

The force nearly tore the entire iron door off its frame.

In the next instant, he lunged at Yang with his whole body.

It wasn't in the blink of an eye.

It was faster.

Yang squeezed his eyes shut, sweat pouring down his face like a waterfall.

TAK!!!

A heavy impact exploded inches from his face.

Flesh against flesh.

He waited for pain.

For the end.

But it didn't come.

Yang opened his eyes slowly

His pupils widened.

Dai's fist… had been stopped.

Yuzuru stood beside him, gripping Dai's fist tightly

his fingers digging deeply

Dai stared at him in disbelief.

"If a fight breaks out, everyone here gets a sticker," Yuzuru whispered.

His fingers dug deeper. Blood seeped from Dai's hand, thin trails from Yuzuru's nails.

"Gaaaah!"

Dai tried to fight back with his other hand, but his knees buckled and hit the floor.

"I plan to leave this place with a clean record," Yuzuru continued coldly.

"And I won't let you clowns ruin my plans. Understood?"

He shot me a sideways glance as he released Dai's now-mangled fist.

"Ughhh…"

Dai clutched his hand, tears pouring from his eyes.

It was obvious he wouldn't be using it for a while.

Yuzuru had done it for me.

There was no way he'd destroy a fist beyond recognition as a warning.

I looked at him.

He ignored my gaze, walked to his bed, lay down, and turned his back to me.

He wants something from me.

I know it.

Maybe he's gay

I remembered how intently he'd stared at Dai's backside.

"You really did it, huh?" Yuzuru said quietly interrupting my thoughts

"…Yes?"

"Stay away from me. And don't look in my direction."

"Why?"

"Cowardice is contagious. Now get lost."

Cowardice… contagious?

Does he really think I could defeat that mass of muscle without weapons?

Seriously What's wrong with him?

Still, I did as he said.

I turned my gaze to the right-side wall, away from the bed

_________

I could hear Dai crying—until he eventually fell asleep.

Exhaustion crept into me too.

But before I drifted off

"Despite all my warnings… you went and messed with Hanayama. Of all people."

He paused.

"You deserve what happened to you."

Do we know each other?

I wondered.

If we do, that would explain the strange looks on the bus.

"So… what did you do exactly?" he asked

.

Didn't he say cowardice was contagious?

I honestly don't even know what I did.

I never got the chance to ask—everyone either wanted me dead or delivered to their boss without a word.

But from my short conversation with Hanayama, I gathered one thing

"i killed—"

"I know," he cut me off

"I know you killed two of his men. I just wanted to hear it from your mouth."

Yuzuru sat up on the edge of the bed.

"Not just any men. The founding members of the family."

He looked straight at me.

"There's no one who doesn't know what you did."

I killed another one too

I wanted to say it.

But it wouldn't change anything.

"you one of them?" I asked, ignoring Dai, who was sleeping on the floor sucking his thumb.

Yuzuru tilted his head slightly.

"Did you get hit in the head? Or are you joking? If it's a joke, stop. I'm not in the mood."

Honestly? Yes.

I'd been hit in the head plenty of times.

With an iron baseball bat.

Against a wall.

Against the floor.

With a chain-wrapped wooden sword.

With boots.

"…Yeah. I lost some of my memory."

Yuzuru exhaled deeply.

"That puts you in even deeper trouble, Yang. Does anyone from your gang still remain?"

I thought.

If my memory wasn't lying, I hadn't seen a single member of my yakuza family i was alone when i woke up

"No."

"I figured," Yuzuru said.

"Killing Hanayama's men was the final straw for your family."

Is he mocking me?

"I'll tell you what to do if you want to stay alive."

"Why do you care?"

"Consider it… the last favor I'll do for an old friend."

The words echoed in my chest

making Weird feelings stirred within me

"You'll be here for three years," he continued calmly.

"My advice? Make sure that sentence gets longer. No matter the cost."

Longer?

He noticed my confusion.

"If you leave after just three years, Hanayama's men will be waiting outside."

"They'll tear you apart, Yang so until you get transported to an adult prison try your best to get stronger so you can atleast defend yourself "

"Get stronger? You'll teach me?"

Yang looked at him with bright eyes, his face full of expectation.

"I told you not to look at me. I'll kill you, bastard. Know your place."

He glared at Yang, forcing him to turn his face away immediately.

"Your best way to get stronger," he continued, "is to learn karate—and to harden your fists."

Karate?

If he wasn't going to teach me, then who would?

"I heard—and I hope it's true—that every Thursday a karate master comes here to teach. He's the reason I'm here in the first place. I don't know if you have talent for fighting, but even if you don't, learning the basics will put you above everyone in that yakuza… except Kaoru himself, and Shiba Chiharu—his right-hand man and the leader of the biker gang...And of course, that's the best option for you if ..if what I heard about the karate guy is true.

Tho If it turns out to be false, I'll leave this place."

He paused, then added flatly:

"And the best thing you can do to survive here without me… is to become a boyfriend of Someone who has a gang."

"…Huh?"

He didn't care about my reaction. Not even a glance

That alone confirmed it—he wasn't joking.

He then stood up next to the sleeping dai glancing at him for a moment.

"He… and that officer. Both are connected to him ... though im not sure about the latter"

Yuzuru slapped dai in the face "Gh—!"

"This is his specialty," Yuzuru continued as he he slapped him even harder

"He goes from reformatory to reformatory, recruiting kids and whatever but."

"But this time, he wasn't here to recruit."

"He came to kill you."

He paused.

"And the officer is Just another corrupt cop… that's just my assumption, so don't take it as fact."

"Anything else, you might avoid thanks to your red badge and your tattoo."

Tattoo?

Oh. Right I have one… I think.

"You do, right?"

I rolled up my right sleeve.

Yuzuru's eyes widened for a second.

Then he covered his face in frustration.

My tattoo was SpongeBob—with a beard—holding two guns.

"…Try to hide it."

I really didn't know how he knew all of this, but he spoke like someone who knows whats going on ,I didn't have much of a choice but to believe him.

Trust him, though?

No. Not a chance.

I didn't know this guy at all. Maybe he knew the previous owner of this body—but I didn't. He had never once visited me in the hospital in the last two times. That alone told me enough. If he had cared about the previous owner, even a little, he would've shown up at least once.

I sighed and shook my head.

I couldn't really blame him, though. Based on everything I'd heard about the previous owner, I wouldn't want to be anywhere near that guy either.

What rotten luck. Of all people, they had to shove me into the body of a scrawny teenager with a history bad enough to put half the population against him. Honestly, I was surprised he had any friends at all.

Up to now, everyone I know who has any connection to this guy either wants him dead—or doesn't want him anywhere near them.

Take that blond man with the star-shaped right eye.

I don't even know what kind of connection I have with him, but apparently I ruined his life.

Then there's Hanayama—the man whose gang lost two founding members because of him.

And Yanagi, who claims he's my uncle on my mother's side.

According to him, at least.

He's the one who feels the most suspicious to me.

I don't know why, but the two times i I looked at him in my previous lives, a strange, foreign sense of dread settles deep in my chest—like my instincts are screaming for me to run

And there was Yuzuru.

I glanced at him from the corner of my eye.

He was slamming Dai's head into the ground again and again. For a moment, I almost felt bad for the guy—right until I remembered that he'd tried to kill me

Making Any trace of pity vanished.

Yuzuru was yakuza. Of that, I was certain.

No one else would know this much about Hanayama—details that went far to someone like Dai, who was nothing more than bottom-tier muscle, a mere recruiter.

But im curious though how strong is he compared to Hanayama or Dorian ?
