Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: Vya's True Form, Chasing the Wind

That familiar feeling of weightlessness…

Vya didn't know why—why did she always end up in the sky for no reason?

'If only Vya could fly…'

She mumbled to herself, her long white hair streaming upward as she fell.

If she could fly, she wouldn't have to worry about hitting the ground.

But now.

As the ground rushed closer.

Just like before.

Vya instinctively curled into a ball.

The impact wasn't as harsh as she'd expected. She landed softly on the ground, without stirring up much dust.

When she stood up, she noticed something was a little different about her surroundings.

The sky was gloomy.

A fierce wind howled around her, whipping her hair into a mess.

Where was this?

She looked around and found herself standing in the middle of an unfamiliar street.

…Not many colors were visible to her. One white light—probably Brother Kevin—but very far away.

One pink light—that was her sister!

But even farther away.

And then…

A bad feeling crept over Vya. She turned to look behind her.

There was a presence that made her deeply uncomfortable—a color that was almost void, or rather, no color at all, just like that sister she'd met last time.

Hmm, and it was coming from another sister this time too…

On the roof of a half-destroyed building about a hundred meters away stood a girl with short, dark Blue-Green hair.

Behind the girl, cyan wings composed of swirling air currents stretched out. Her hollow eyes stared straight ahead, seeming indifferent to everything around her.

But something felt different this time.

When Vya closed to a certain distance, the girl with dark blue hair suddenly turned her head. Her lifeless eyes locked onto Vya.

It was as if she was recognizing something.

Vya leaped up directly. She knew this sister needed her help too.

"Annihilate…"

The voice was cold, mechanical.

"?"

Vya couldn't quite make out what the girl was saying.

"Annihilate humanity…"

The girl's empty eyes fixed on Vya as she whispered, "Heretic… eliminate."

She raised a hand, and the air currents around her suddenly turned violent.

Before Vya could react, the surrounding air compressed abruptly, forming a massive vortex of wind.

A powerful suction force instantly swept her into it. Her vision filled with nothing but swirling gray currents and debris.

"Whoa—!"

The world suddenly fell silent.

When Vya opened her eyes again, she was surrounded by a world forged of crystal.

What was before her?

Wow, it looked like… herself~!

The crystals were covered in images, and the scenes depicted were all of her.

Or rather, this was Vya's memories.

The scene of her reunion with Elysia—back when she had just crawled out of a Honkai beast's corpse, her confused eyes meeting Elysia's.

Vya walked forward along the crystalline corridor. Each crystal recorded fragments of her journey to find Elysia: her running in the rain, her searching through ruins.

These memories were linked together, forming the brief span of her experiences…

Meanwhile, at the center of the storm in the outside world, Vya—who had been swept into the vortex—began to emit a dazzling light from her entire body.

Accompanied by a crisp, crystalline shattering sound, her form began to change rapidly…

In an instant, she transformed into a small creature of pure white.

At first glance, it resembled a kitten, but there was a pink, crystal-like mark on its forehead, and the tip of its tail faded into a pink gradient.

It landed lightly on a chunk of broken concrete, tilting its head as it surveyed its surroundings with an elegant and mysterious poise.

It was rather cute.

"…"

Witnessing this, the Fourth Herrscher—the girl with dark blue hair—visibly faltered.

It was instinct. Even as a Herrscher, she still sought advantage and avoided harm.

She sensed the threat emanating from the small creature before her.

That pure…

Without hesitation, the Fourth Herrscher waved both hands. Two new wind vortices instantly formed, howling as they shot toward the white creature.

Yet, the small beast at the storm's center remained completely still. It merely lifted its head lazily and let out a low growl that completely mismatched its size:

"Grrr…"

Then, it gave its tail a light flick. Two rings composed of pure Honkai energy shot forth in response.

The rings expanded continuously as they flew, ultimately colliding with the wind vortices—

With a thunderous crash, the vortices were effortlessly neutralized. The shockwave from the explosion even rushed straight toward the Fourth Herrscher herself.

The Herrscher reacted swiftly, using air currents to teleport herself hundreds of meters away.

Hmm… or rather, she fled.

"Vya" licked her paw, a light gleaming in her eyes…

as if she had spotted prey.

Her pink, crystal-like pupils quickly locked onto the Herrscher's position.

In the next moment, her figure vanished from the spot, leaving only an afterimage.

"Vya" gave chase. That sense of void emanating from the Herrscher wouldn't fade easily, so there was no way the Herrscher could shake her off.

The Fourth Herrscher darted through the city, using the power of wind to move at astonishing speeds.

But no matter how she changed direction, the little white beast followed her like a shadow.

Wherever they passed, they left considerable commotion in their wake. The city, already ravaged by gales, became even more broken.

Some distance away from there, Kevin had just persuaded the boy named Kosma to turn back.

Just as he was about to proceed with his mission…

A massive disturbance not far off put him instantly on alert.

By now… Kevin's combat instincts had been honed on the battlefield.

He was naturally talented, and his current strength had already placed him among the top ranks of the squads.

Otherwise, the scouting mission wouldn't have fallen to him.

He advanced toward that location.

The purpose of this trip was to gather intelligence and retreat unscathed.

And then, Kevin saw this scene.

A humanoid figure shot straight through the middle of a building, followed closely by a white shadow.

He hadn't seen it clearly, but the equipment he carried quickly captured the image.

"Headquarters, this is Kevin."

He pressed his communicator. "Abnormal situation detected. The Fourth Herrscher appears to be pursued by something. Requesting analytical support."

Back at the operations command center.

Everyone fell silent as they watched this inexplicably appeared Honkai beast.

And this beast… seemed to be chasing the Herrscher?

What was going on??

According to previous patterns, Herrschers should be able to command Honkai beasts. So why was this happening?

Especially for Mei—she couldn't shake the feeling that this Honkai beast seemed familiar, but… how could that be?

It was the same for Mobius. Although restricted by MOTH, she still received the latest intelligence.

Watching the scene on the screen…

"Heh…"

A playful smile curled at Mobius's lips. "Finally showing your true form, are you, little Vya?"

"Hmm, so beautiful…"

The little white beast suddenly accelerated, leaping through the air to pounce on the Fourth Herrscher.

The Herrscher hastily created a wall of wind to block, but the beast shattered it with a single swipe of its paw.

"Kevin, evacuate your position immediately!"

"Received!"

Naturally, Elysia saw it too…

So she quietly slipped away. She didn't need to be told—she knew that was Vya…
