On the plane, Vya pressed her little face against the window, staring blankly at the clouds outside.
The sea of clouds shifted and changed shape endlessly.
Mobius set down the documents in her hand, observing this unusually quiet child.
"What's wrong, little Vya?"
"Thinking about Sis."
"It hasn't been that long, and you already miss her?"
Mobius raised an eyebrow, truly unable to comprehend what was so great about Elysia.
"Mhm."
Vya nodded, as if this were the most obvious truth.
"What exactly is so good about Elysia anyway? She's not your real sister, is she?"
"Because... Sis Elysia was the one who brought me back to the orphanage. After that, Vya just stayed with her. Then one day, Sis Elysia was gone. Mama Seria said she went out into the wider world, so Vya followed her out..."
Vya's voice was soft, as if telling a fairy tale.
"Vya has been looking for Sis ever since..."
So that's how it was?
This child's attachment to Elysia started a long time ago.
Mobius gave a faint smile.
"Vya, then who do you think is better, me or Elysia?"
"Ah, Sis Mobius... can we not compare?"
"Oh? And why is that?"
Mobius asked with keen interest.
"Both sisters are very good... If we compare carelessly, both sisters might get upset."
"I thought you'd take her side."
Mobius said with a slight pout.
"Because Sis Mobius is very good too. You give me delicious food and take me out to play."
The little girl smiled sweetly, her eyes full of sincerity.
"As long as you know I'm good to you. Remember to agree when I ask for your help in the future, okay?"
"Mhm, mhm, Vya will be obedient."
Mobius also had a strange feeling. There was something about Vya that was quite captivating, yet not easily noticed.
The Mu Continent, located in the Pacific Ocean, was a bustling land of highly developed economy and culture. Its technological level was naturally among the world's finest, housing one-sixth of the global population.
From high above, the entire city looked like a futuristic world built of glass and steel, with towering structures gleaming under the sun.
After the plane landed, Vya looked around at everything with wide-eyed curiosity.
A sea of people.
There was a designated person to greet them.
"Dr. Mobius, welcome."
It was a young woman in a crisp uniform, wearing a professional smile. Mobius had no intention of engaging with her, not even sparing a glance.
"Mhm."
Mobius simply led Vya away.
As a once-celebrated prodigy, Mobius was accustomed to what was expected at such conferences, but she found it utterly tedious. The so-called academic discussions seemed child's play to her, not even worth raising an eyelid for.
People milled about, occasionally coming over to offer greetings, but Mobius had little interest in any of them.
Until she discovered a far more amusing pastime: teaching Vya.
Chemistry, biology, physics—she taught bits and pieces of whatever came to mind, useful or not. Such was the power of knowledge, after all.
Teaching a child at a serious academic conference—could you imagine Mobius doing such a thing?
Well, believe it or not, this was exactly the sort of thing Mobius would do. Her teaching method was simple and direct, yet Vya listened with rapt attention.
And Mobius found it far more interesting than anything at the conference. Watching Vya's earnest focus gave her a faint sense of accomplishment.
Early on, Mobius had taken out the notebook she always carried, scribbling and sketching in it.
Complex formulas and diagrams flowed smoothly from her pen.
Vya was also curious. She realized that ever since waking up that morning, her vocabulary had suddenly expanded greatly. She remembered every single word of the stories Elysia had once told her.
Vya had suddenly gotten so smart~
She happily swung her little legs. She didn't understand what had happened, but it was a good thing, right?
"The origin of life can be traced from..."
Mobius spoke casually, but Vya remembered everything clearly. Even if she didn't fully understand, remembering it was the first step~
Vya sat on the chair, holding a pen as she wrote in Mobius's notebook.
"Sis, is this how you do this problem?"
Vya asked. She could now solve slightly more complex math problems.
But anything more complicated would probably take a bit more time.
At that moment, Mobius was perusing with interest the files on someone named Mei, along with a thesis on quantum physics whose author was also a high school student named Mei.
Tsk tsk, this girl was quite interesting. Just a high schooler... yet capable of writing such a thesis.
"Sis...?"
Vya asked again. Mobius looked at Vya, then toward the figure of the purple-haired girl not far away.
"Here, Vya, see that sister with the purple hair? Go ask her. She'll definitely know. After she answers, remember to bring her over here, understood?"
Vya followed the direction Mobius pointed...
"Purple... purple?"
The color around Mei was strange—a purple glow, yet faint and deep... How odd.
Vya narrowed her eyes, trying to see more clearly.
"See her? Go on now."
"Oh, okay."
Vya didn't ask why; she didn't overthink it. Clutching the notebook, she walked over, her small white shoes making almost no sound on the carpet.
Mobius watched with interest as Vya slowly approached the girl named Mei.
Vya was very close now. As she neared, she realized this was a very pretty sister.
She walked up to Mei and tugged gently on her sleeve. "Sis... hello."
Mei was feeling somewhat lost at the time. Since arriving, countless people had fawned over her, calling her a genius...
But that wasn't what she wanted.
Just as she was lost in thought, she felt a tug on her clothes. Looking down, she saw a little girl calling her.
The girl had hair fading from white to pink, like an exquisite doll.
A child?
But... what was a child doing at a conference like this? Mei was surprised but didn't show it.
"Hello, little sister. Is there something you need?"
"Sis, can you tell me if I did this problem right?"
Vya held out the notebook, her eyes full of anticipation.
"Let me see..."
Mei took the notebook and glanced at it. "That's correct, you did it right. But this step here could be simplified..."
Mei crouched down to explain the problem to Vya.
"Thank you, Sis!"
"You're welcome."
"Sis, what's your name? I'm Vya."
"Hello Vya, I'm Mei."
"Wow, then can you come with me, Sis Mei?"
Vya's voice was hard to refuse, but Mei was no ordinary person.
"Huh? Where do you want to take me?"
"Sis Mobius said I should bring you over."
Vya pointed in Mobius's direction.
"Dr. Mobius...?"
Mei naturally knew of the renowned Mobius, even though she hadn't appeared in the public eye for a long time.
Mei looked in the direction Vya pointed, her eyes meeting those of the green-haired beauty...
Mobius offered a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes and gave a slight wave. She was very interested in Mei.
Though puzzled, Mei didn't want to miss this opportunity. So, she went with Vya to Mobius's side
