Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: The Story of Wasuke

Kyoto Jujutsu High

A small classroom sat tucked away in one of the older wings of the school. Sunlight filtered faintly through the windows, dust motes drifting lazily in the air. Only three people occupied the room.

At the front stood a man in a brown suit, black gloves covering his hands as he rested casually against the teacher's desk. This was Usami Inumaki, a seasoned sorcerer and instructor. Sitting before him were two of the five First Grade Jujutsu Tech students, Aramaki Kamo and Urihime Natsumi.

Aramaki leaned forward slightly. "So, sensei," he asked, "who truly was stronger, Gojo Satoru or Ryomen Sukuna?"

Usami tilted his head, eyes narrowing thoughtfully. "Honestly?" he said after a pause. "It depends on who you ask. Both Gojo and Sukuna were monsters in their own right. Choosing who was stronger isn't something I could do easily."

Urihime, lounging back in her chair, popped her bubblegum loudly. "Gojo was stronger," she said casually. "Because he was hot."

Aramaki sighed deeply. "Urihime… the only thing you ever think about is boys."

"Of course," she replied without shame. "My dream is to land a strong, rich, handsome man so I can retire as a sorcerer and live in luxury and comfort."

Aramaki stared at her flatly. "…So basically Wasuke."

Urihime's face lit up. "Obviously." Then her smile faded, eyes darkening. "He's like a dream for a lot of girls." Her fingers clenched slightly. "But because of her…"

As if summoned by her words, the classroom door slid open.

Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu stepped inside.

Urihime's gaze snapped to Yuka, hostility flaring openly in her eyes. Yuka noticed and blinked in confusion.

I haven't done anything to her… Yuka thought. Why does she hate me so much?

Usami turned toward them, his face brightening. "Yuka, Tsurugi, you're back."

"Yes, sensei," Yuka replied politely.

"Good," Usami said. "So, how did it go?"

Tsurugi walked past them without a word, dropping onto a desk and resting his chin on his palm. "That bastard still won't return."

Yuka took a seat beside him. "We tried our best to convince him," she added softly. "But he just wouldn't budge."

"I see," Usami said, nodding. "Well, I'm sure you both did your best. I won't hold you accountable."

Aramaki frowned. "Sensei, what mission did you give them?"

"It wasn't an official mission," Usami replied. "I simply asked them to speak with Wasuke about possibly returning to Jujutsu Tech."

Aramaki's eyes narrowed. "The Itadori brat, huh."

He glanced at Yuka and his annoyance shifted into something far sharper. Anger.

The dynamics within the classroom were painfully simple.

Urihime liked Wasuke.

Wasuke did not like Urihime and instead liked Yuka.

So Urihime hated Yuka.

Aramaki, on the other hand, liked Yuka.

Yuka did not like Aramaki and instead liked Wasuke.

She had even rejected multiple marriage proposals from Aramaki.

So Aramaki hated Wasuke.

Of course, neither Wasuke nor Yuka were aware of the feelings they secretly held for one another.

Urihime blew another bubble. "Sensei, you should let me try talking to him. I'm sure I could convince him."

"Forget it," Usami said bluntly. "If Yuka couldn't convince him, then it's pointless."

Aramaki clenched his jaw. "Then tell me, sensei," he said. "Why do you try so hard to get Wasuke back? Jujutsu Tech functions perfectly fine without him." He paused. "Is it because he's a special grade?"

The room fell quiet.

Usami's smile faded just slightly.

Usami exhaled slowly before answering. "Him being a special grade is part of it," he said. "But Wasuke… as a whole, is something else entirely. Jujutsu Tech needs him to keep the Four Great Noble Clans in check."

Yuka blinked in surprise. "Grandpa mentioned something like that before," she said. "Something about how Wasuke's birth was special… but he never went into detail."

Tsurugi nodded. "Grandma told me the same thing." He frowned slightly. "And during her era, there were only three great noble clans ruling for decades. How did it become four?"

Usami studied the room for a moment. "I've never actually told you about those events, have I?" He straightened, resting more firmly against the teacher's desk. "Alright. Since you're all here… I'll explain who Wasuke Itadori Jr really is and how his birth changed the balance of the entire world."

Aramaki scoffed. "Changed the balance of the entire world?" He chuckled. "Sensei, aren't you exaggerating just a little?"

Usami didn't smile. "Nope. His birth truly changed the balance of the world."

The mood shifted.

"You all know about Yuji Itadori, right?" Usami continued.

"Yes," Urihime said immediately. "The strongest sorcerer of this era and my future grandfather-in-law."

Usami pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. "Whatever. Let's move on."

He clasped his hands together. "After the raid on Sukuna, there were serious talks about dismantling the Great Noble Clan system entirely. Many believed it was outdated and corrupt."

"But those talks never went anywhere," he continued. "Destroying the clans outright would've caused more harm than good. So instead, an alternative was proposed."

"Adding a fourth clan," Yuka murmured.

"Exactly," Usami nodded. "A fourth great noble clan to act as a balancer. A system where the clans could watch one another, preventing any single clan from overreaching."

"Oh," Yuka said softly. "So that's how the four great clans came to be." She hesitated. "But sensei… that still doesn't explain how Wasuke changed the world."

"Give me a moment," Usami replied. "I'm getting there."

He continued, voice steady. "Once the law was approved, the real issue emerged. Which clan would be elevated."

"There were two main candidates," he said. "The Inumaki Clan… and the Itadori Clan."

Tsurugi leaned forward slightly.

"The Itadori Clan was considered largely because of Yuji Itadori," Usami went on. "At the time, he was the strongest sorcerer alive. On top of that, his son possessed a semi–Heavenly Restricted body, meaning Yuji's absurd physical prowess could be inherited."

"That made them strong contenders," he said. "But… strength alone wasn't enough."

Usami's eyes sharpened. "A diluted version of the Zenin Clan's Heavenly Restriction wasn't sufficient to justify a seat among the great clans."

"So in truth," he continued, "the only reason the Itadori Clan was even considered… was Yuji Itadori himself. And if he ever died, the clan would have nothing to stand on."

The room was silent.

"So," Usami said calmly, "the Inumaki Clan was set to become the fourth Great Noble Clan."

"Buuuut—"

Tsurugi slammed his hand lightly on the desk. "What?! Then what happened?"

Usami smiled.

"Wasuke happened."

Everyone froze.

"Wasuke Itadori Jr," Usami said slowly, deliberately, "was born."

The words settled like a curse.

"And in that moment," Usami continued, "the balance of the world shifted."
