"I understand now."

Mordred's voice carried a quiet clarity as she looked up at the sky.

"My father did not wish for gems to shine like stars."

Her golden eyes reflected the distant constellations.

"He became King for the sake of those stones."

She placed a hand over her chest and smiled faintly.

"That's why I no longer need the sword of the selection."

Her gaze softened.

"I don't need it anymore."

Gilgamesh listened quietly.

For a moment he said nothing.

Then a small smile appeared on his face.

He placed a hand on Mordred's shoulder.

"I'm not exactly the person who should say this."

His voice was calm.

"And I'm certainly not someone who enjoys following others."

He paused.

"But you would have made an excellent King, Mordred."

Mordred blinked.

Then her face turned slightly red.

A grin slowly spread across her face.

"Of course you'd say that, Master."

She looked proud.

They stayed there for a while longer.

Two figures beneath the night sky.

Watching the stars.

In silence.

The Next Day

Student Council Room

Gilgamesh took another sip of tea.

It was surprisingly good.

He had no idea what brand of leaves Sona used, but the flavor was excellent. Considering this came from the Student Council's private stock, it was probably expensive.

Though he doubted Sona would mind.

The lights in the room were still off.

Yet the large windows covering one entire wall allowed sunlight to flood the room.

It was only seven in the morning.

But the sky outside was already clear and bright.

Gilgamesh sat quietly in a corner chair.

Waiting.

Sona had asked him to come.

So he arrived early.

He thought it would be amusing to surprise her.

Footsteps approached the door.

"Are you sure, Kaichou?" a female voice asked.

Gilgamesh recognized it immediately.

Tsubaki.

"Yes, Tsubaki."

Sona's calm voice followed.

"I just need a minute to deal with something myself."

The doorknob turned.

"Please make sure the repairs are finished before school begins."

"I understand, Kaichou."

Tsubaki's footsteps faded down the hallway.

The door opened fully.

Sona walked inside.

She didn't notice Gilgamesh.

She closed the door behind her and leaned against it, closing her eyes.

The room became silent.

Gilgamesh was about to announce himself.

But then—

Sona started laughing.

At first it was quiet.

Barely audible.

But then it grew louder.

And louder.

Soon she threw her head back and burst into full laughter.

Maniacal laughter echoed throughout the Student Council room.

Gilgamesh stared in stunned silence.

What… was happening?

Sona Sitri—

One of the most disciplined people he knew—

Was laughing like a villain who had just conquered the world.

"HAHAHAHA! Feel it, Rias! FEEL IT!"

Gilgamesh blinked.

"YES! YES! YES! AHAHAHAHA!"

Then—

She started thrusting her hips.

Gilgamesh slowly rubbed his eyes.

Surely he was hallucinating.

But no.

Sona Sitri.

The strict and composed student council president.

Was thrusting her hips forward while shouting—

"Burn! Burn! Burn!"

Gilgamesh looked down at his tea.

He scanned it with magic.

No poison.

No drugs.

He checked again.

Still nothing.

He sighed.

Reality had apparently broken today.

"Can you feel it, Rias?"

Sona continued dramatically.

"Can you feel the weight~~?"

Then—

In the middle of another exaggerated hip thrust—

She saw him.

Sona froze.

Completely.

Her eyes widened.

Her face turned pale.

She stared at Gilgamesh with the exact expression of a deer caught in headlights.

Unfortunately—

She froze mid-motion.

Which meant she was stuck in a hip-thrusting pose.

Arms behind her.

Groin pushed forward toward the wall.

Gilgamesh silently wished for a camera.

Serafall Leviathan would pay a fortune for this image.

They stared at each other.

Five seconds.

Ten seconds.

Thirty seconds.

Then a massive grin slowly spread across Gilgamesh's face.

"Oh, don't mind me."

He leaned back comfortably in his chair and crossed his legs.

"Please continue."

He lifted his teacup calmly.

"This seems important. I'll wait."

He took a long sip.

Doing everything possible not to laugh.

Sona's face turned white.

Then red.

"I— I— That's not— I mean— Don't think that— Ah—"

Her brain collapsed into complete nonsense.

Words failed her entirely.

Finally, Gilgamesh raised a hand.

"Relax."

He waved casually.

"No need to explain."

He nodded toward her stance.

"You can stop that pose now."

Sona looked down.

Realized her position.

Her face exploded into a deeper shade of red.

She immediately stood up straight.

Gilgamesh took another moment to compose himself.

Then he spoke.

"So."

He tilted his head.

"What happened?"

He gestured toward her earlier performance.

"You seemed extremely excited."

"And why did it involve Gremory?"

Sona had already recovered.

Her strict student council president expression had returned.

Only a faint blush on her cheeks betrayed her.

She coughed lightly into her fist.

"Yes."

She walked toward the tea table.

"I received some very interesting news."

She poured herself a drink.

"And technically…"

She glanced at him.

"It's more accurate to say someone happened."

Gilgamesh raised an eyebrow.

"Oh?"

His curiosity rose.

"And who would that someone be?"

Sona answered calmly.

"Hyoudou Issei."

Gilgamesh's expression darkened slightly.

He was not particularly fond of Issei.

Not only because of the boy's perverted tendencies.

Which Gilgamesh genuinely struggled to understand.

But also because of Issei's decisions.

If Rias asked—

Gilgamesh had no doubt the boy would immediately abandon his humanity and become a devil.

That thought irritated him.

Throwing away humanity.

For something as shallow as attraction.

It disgusted him.

Which was why—

Gilgamesh never saved him.

Instead—

He took Boosted Gear for himself.

After all—

He could use it far more effectively.

Although he did give Issei three Sacred Gears afterward.

The first one was Twice Critical.

A simple Sacred Gear capable of temporarily doubling the user's power.

With proper mastery, the effect could reach five times amplification.

Unfortunately—

Even that was barely useful.

Because Issei would need at least eight boosts to reach the level of a Riser peerage Rook.
