Cherreads

Chapter 32 - Chapter thirty-two- The end of the beginning

Vivien left a black cat plushie in Luis' room with a note that said ‚I love you, I'll be back'. She knew he loved black cats.

Next, she left the house and went to Grace's home. She handed her a gift she'd thought about getting her for a long time, wrapped with care. Grace hugged Vivien, thankful for it. Grace's little brother also came from behind her and waved shily at Vivien.

Next, she traveled from Grace's house to Rachel's. She knocked at her door and handed her thick slouch socks and a blue shirt. She knew Rachel had been wanting a pair of socks and a blue shirt for a long time. Rachel was ecstatic, of course.

Lastly, Vivien wrote a few words of appreciation for her parents, but she thought it would have been too much, so she simply deleted those words and sent ‚I love you' to them, through text. All she had left to do was to talk to Sylas.

...

„Hey, sweethreat."

„Sylas, give me your hand."

„Why?"

He gave her his hand and she noticed the FL branding on his left hand. He had it, too. They could escape this nightmare together!

„You're left handed, right?"

Sylas nodded

„Come with me."

„Where are we going?"

„You'll see."

„Alright, I trust you."

Vivien takes him all the way to a closed off room, and the artifact was there. Its bright red light was blinding them, and it was shining. Both of their reflections could be seen in it, their faces showing a mixture of emotions they couldn't confess.

„What does it do?"

„It'll make the suffering stop. It'll break the curse once and for all."

„Really?", he looked at her, his eyes sad and longing.

„Really." Vivien felt like crying, but she didn't want to let it out in that moment. She reached out to him and touched his cheek with her hand, commiting to looking at him for one last time.

„Are you ready?"

„It does more than simply putting an end to the suffering and reversing the curse. I know it."

„We'll be safe. That's all you need to know."

„I trust you."

Vivien placed a soft kiss on his cheek, then walked forward. He placed his left hand on the artifact, and she placed her right hand. Sylas reached out and held her free hand.

Vivien hadn't asked him enough questions yet. Like what his favorite type of drink was, or if he prefered sci-fi over fantasy. If he enjoyed looking up at the moon and stars, or if he prefered the sun and the clouds to take over the sky. If he liked going on long walks to the park. Oh! If he enjoyed wearing silly hats and taking funny pictures. That, he definitely did. But she knew enough about him, like his favorite movie and his favorite sport. She knew a lot of facts about him, and that's what mattered. She was aware his heart longed for her presence, and into the next life, she would do her best to find him, no matter what it takes.

The distance between them wouldn't cause an issue. Yet Vivien would still wish to talk to him, no matter how far they would be from one another.

Time was not on their side. If only they could have had more time at their disposal to create more memories, to laugh more. But it's useless to lament on what happened. Moving forward, all they can do is try to find each other again, and to recreate wonderful memories, just like first time. They did not get enough time to do everything they wanted in their life, but hopefully, the next life will have less pain, less tears, less stress. Hopefully, in their next life, they will be happy and healthy, like everyone wishes to be. They left all their memories and pain behind and welcomed a new beginning.

It was a strange adventure, but throughout it all, they didn't lose themselves. They kept moving forward down their road they were destined to have. The two came to the conclusion that their journey was amazing. They had to pick themselves up from scratch and did it with no problem, which was a good sign. It proved they were going through the motions while feeling alive.

They say that destiny is tied to luck, they're like cousins who don't text very often. Fate is like a reward granted after fighting with yourself to make your own destiny come true. To grasp the meaning of different fates was difficult for them. Each person has a road they are led to, and that's what makes it important, what makes everything beautiful.

Vivien and Sylas will keep looking for each other, for their missing pieces, for the way out of their maze. Even in their next life to come. Their adventure came to an end. It felt like a bad dream they were unable to wake up from, but now, their nightmare was over.

Their memories were now, erased. There was no reason to go back, nor forward into time. They had each other in the present.

She wished they had more time to spend it together, one last time.
