Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Summerhall

Looking at the three dragon eggs in the stone box, radiating warm energy fluctuations, the most important thing now was to figure out how to safely transport these dragon eggs back to The Red Keep. However, tonight was clearly not realistic. Viserys looked at his claws; he couldn't carry the dragon eggs. He needed to think of another way.

Over the next few days, Viserys often visited the markets of Kings Landing after his training. He carefully observed the works of various artisans.

Eventually, he chose an old artisan renowned for weaving exquisite rattan baskets. Under the pretext of "needing several baskets of special sizes to transport game for hunting dogs," he commissioned a few custom-sized baskets. "They need to be sturdy enough."

Viserys spoke in a childish yet undeniable tone, "The size... about this big." He gestured the size of the dragon eggs from his memory.

Although the old craftsman was puzzled by such a peculiar order, he respectfully accepted the prince's request. Then, Viserys went to buy a larger box to store the dragon eggs later.

However, the dragon eggs were still too important, so he kept a mouse by Varys's side, constantly monitoring reports from every visitor to see if anyone reported any news about himself.

At the same time, he also controlled several mice to shuttle through the secret passages of The Red Keep, mapping out the intricate, interconnected network in his mind, searching for a route that could safely transport the dragon eggs to his room.

After all, these secret passages were rumored to connect all rooms in The Red Keep, and several could even lead directly out of The Red Keep or even Kings Landing. For example, the one Varys always used in the original story, leading to the Blackwater Rush.

Currently, Varys was the only one who clearly knew most of the secret passages, using them to contact and meet his "little birds." And knowing all the secret passages meant that even if war broke out unexpectedly in the future, he could still leave Kings Landing.

After a few more days of exploration, Viserys finally arranged everything. He then controlled three dogs to retrieve the dragon eggs from the Dragonpit, while mice and wild cats vigilantly patrolled around the dogs. Fortunately, there were no incidents along the way. Viserys controlled them to get the dragon eggs and then entered The Red Keep via the previously planned secret passage.

Viserys stood by the fireplace and gently moved away a few loose bricks behind it. A hole, just large enough for a dog to pass through, was revealed. The entrance to his bedroom's secret passage was under the bed, but the passage below had collapsed. However, behind the wall by the fireplace, he found a passable branch. Even better, the collapsed passage had formed a natural secret storage room.

When all three dragon eggs were safely delivered, Viserys finally breathed a sigh of relief. He caressed each dragon egg, feeling their warm touch and the energy fluctuations within. Indeed, they were as he had seen before, and he was certain these were not Daenerys's three dragon eggs. This meant that the Targaryen Family might eventually have six dragons.

No, perhaps even more. He seemed to have forgotten about Summerhall. He had been so focused on magic and the Dragonpit that he forgot he originally intended to find an opportunity to check Summerhall for dragon eggs.

But now, he had a better method. Since his Skinchanger ability could control animals, why not try to explore the limits of his ability? After repacking the dragon eggs into the specially made wooden box, Viserys lifted his bed, revealing the secret passage entrance below. Although the passage had collapsed, the space at the entrance was just large enough to accommodate the wooden box. He carefully placed the wooden box inside and remade the bed.

After doing all this, Viserys closed his eyes, concentrated, and tried to extend his consciousness further. He felt his mental power, like invisible tentacles, slowly spread outwards, passing through the walls of The Red Keep, crossing the streets of Kings Landing, and searching in the direction of Summerhall.

However, his mental power could only explore about half of the Kingswood; any further was impossible. But during this time, Viserys also felt a special energy fluctuation, one he seemed to have felt before.

He focused his consciousness on that spot and realized it was a weirwood. But were there still weirwoods in the Kingswood? Shouldn't they have been cut down long ago, given that royal family members often hunted there?

However, this tree might have grown within the last 100 years, as the continent had been relatively turbulent during that period, so it was normal for it to go unnoticed. Viserys connected his consciousness with the weirwood, making his mental power even more solidified.

Viserys did not see the nearby situation through this tree, nor did it seem to have eyes drawn on it by the Children of the Forest. However, he only needed it as a medium to enhance his power.

Viserys continued to spread his consciousness southward, crossing the Kingswood Road leading to Storms End. Further south lay the Stormlands, The Reach, and the natural border of Dorne—the Red Mountains. The ruins of Summerhall were at the foot of the Red Mountains.

Just as he did when he went to the Dragonpit, Viserys first controlled several animals in the Red Mountains. However, his current preference was for those skilled at digging, as there were many animal choices in the mountains. So, he controlled two wild boars, seven moles, a Shadow Cat, and a Mountain Lion. The latter two were for escorting the dragon eggs, as the distance from Kings Landing was quite far, and they couldn't travel on main roads, so it certainly wouldn't be peaceful. Wild dogs were not reassuring enough.

He first used his mental power to sense the approximate area, then let these animals dig. Finally, under a collapsed fireplace, he discovered four relatively intact dragon eggs. When they were first unearthed, the eggshells were covered with a layer of stone that had been liquefied by wildfire. It took a great deal of effort, with the moles' teeth gnawing at it little by little, sacrificing several moles in the process.

One of these four dragon eggs was as black as a starless night, its shell covered with dark red, subtle veins, like cooled volcanic rock.

Another had a dull bronze base color, with smoky dark gray patches, like an ancient bronze artifact that had endured a long history.

One presented a warm copper-yellow base, with soft swirls of milky white and pale gold patterns.

One was deep red, like congealed blood, with cracks resembling golden veins on its surface, appearing like burning embers in the light.

The other three had been crushed by the collapsed house. Although it was a bit regrettable, one must be content. While the dragon eggs were being excavated, a small team of wild dogs, about ten in total, had already set off for Summerhall under the cover of night, bringing all the custom-made baskets to prevent any mishaps.

It took a total of two weeks for Viserys to bring the four dragon eggs back to Kings Landing. He settled the Shadow Cat and Mountain Lion he had controlled in the Kingswood, for his future use.
