Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Guardian

89.

No, why are we gods?

Why cults?

Why are we revered as gods?

....Having such thoughts, I then remembered that finding a normal person among the gods is difficult to begin with. After all, the term 'god' isn't something noble or the like; it's no different from a word pointing to beings with immense power that humans cannot approach.

In that sense, aren't Trihexa, who destroyed Olympus, and us not so different? To begin with, for some reason, me and Ophis are called the Two Great Dragon Gods.

"Kuhaha!"

Since it seems to like it, let's leave it be.

90.

"Here, a snake."

Apparently, while staying at the cult, Ophis occasionally gives out what's called a blessing(?). Though a blessing, it's ultimately just a snake extracted from a portion of Ophis's infinity. Lesser beings would gain immense magical power just by receiving that.

Unlike Ophis, Trihexa cannot create things like snakes, but it shares power under the name of a blessing, causing the recipient to transform into a heteromorphic being. It seems it's not as kind to the recipient as Ophis's snakes.

"Ooooh!"

Well, they seem to happily accept that too.

Faith is a kind of escape, actually.

Considering how pseudo-religions dig into human weaknesses to make them dependant, I can understand why they do that. In this fantasy world where devils, angels, fallen angels, monsters, gods, and all sorts of other races run rampant, humanity's standing isn't particularly good.

Not long ago, ordinary people suffered terribly because of Olympus's rampage.

In that sense, the desire to believe in Trihexa or Ophis is not incomprehensible. At least for those two, sharing power is trivial, but for the recipients, that power allows them to escape their position as the weak.

And since they bestow such blessings, maybe they appear merciful?

91.

"Please save us, O True Dragon."

Humans speak, uttering desperate cries.

No, it's troublesome even if you say that?

I don't really know about things like Sacred Gear hunts, okay? I'm a NEET who doesn't like unnecessary trouble, you know? I hear fallen angels are conducting something called Sacred Gear hunts, and humans are being hunted.

It seems they kill first and ask questions later if suspicious, which is very troublesome.

No, why are the fallen angels such a mess? Well, they are fallen angels, so is it natural?

Ultimately, as I showed a troubled expression, the Mazinger forces stepped forward.

It seems it intends to handle it itself.

92.

While protecting the Sacred Gear possessors who took refuge in the cult, groups of fallen angels who somehow confirmed this moved. Thanks to the Sacred Gear, they possess power beyond humans, but not all are strong, and because of that, they were in danger, but it seems the Mazinger forces protected them.

Honestly, the sight of it sweeping them all away with a Photon Beam was cool.

94.

Because the incident was significant at the time, a fallen angel governor named Azazel from the fallen angel organization Grigori flew over. It seems they don't want the issue involving the Mazinger forces to escalate unnecessarily.

Well, if things go wrong, they could end up like Olympus.

I told them to not be a nuisance and to roughly go away.

95.

"So that is the Great Red, called the True Dragon."

"And there's Ophis, the Infinite Dragon God, and Trihexa, the Beast of the Apocalypse."

While I was laying low in the Dimensional Gap after a long time, new guests appeared.

One is a red dragon, and the other is a white dragon.

Among the beings I've seen so far, they are the strongest, excluding our kids and the God of the Bible. They are dragons far stronger than the Olympus gods. They didn't seem hostile, so I asked why they came.

"Why, I just wanted to confirm with my own eyes the beings called the world's strongest. The forms of those we aim to surpass."

"I agree with Red's words."

Ah, are you perhaps battle maniacs?

But world's strongest? Are we known as that?

"Of course. The Two Great Dragon Gods, also called the Gods of Dragons, and the Beast of the Apocalypse that rivals them.... Even those arrogant gods and devil kings fear you. Didn't Olympus disappear after foolishly picking a fight?"

I have nothing to say.

But you're talking as if you're looking at nuclear bombs.

Me, and our kids, we aren't that dangerous.

.......No, are they dangerous kids?

96.

Saying they would challenge me, Ophis, and Trihexa someday, the two dragons left just like that. Hearing it, they seem to be powerful dragons called the Two Heavenly Dragons. Though they haven't reached us Dragon Gods, they are stronger than Dragon Kings or other dragons, hence the title.

Ooh, they are much more famous than I thought.

They certainly had a large total amount of energy.

97.

An anomaly is occurring in the Dimensional Gap.

Space suddenly distorts, clear anomalies appear, and strange machine masses jump out from there. It wasn't like me, Ophis, or Trihexa; they literally tear through space to come out.

Moreover, upon discovering us, they immediately attack, clearly hostile.

"So you are the guardians protecting this dimension! But with that level of power, you won't even be a match for Lord Melbazoa! It won't be long before that one descends upon this dimension!!!"

Uttering something like a third-rate villain, the lackey melted and disappeared in a breath attack.

Honestly, it wasn't a pleasant statement at all.

98.

Feeling uneasy, I seriously used my abilities in the Dimensional Gap to investigate, and it seems the Dimensional Gap is connected to otherworldly dimensions as well. Not concepts like the human world, underworld, or heaven, but literally other world concepts like 1st dimension, 2nd dimension, 3rd dimension.

And the machine lifeforms that occasionally fly over are lifeforms from other worlds.

I don't know why they cross over to this dimension, but it clearly didn't seem like good intentions.

99.

"An invasion from another world...."

When I asked Ophis and Trihexa, they also said they didn't know, and when I told the God of the Bible about this, they frowned with a serious expression. It seems the God of the Bible has some connection to this issue.

"I had expected it, but to have reached this point already... Our world hasn't properly become one yet. In this state, we'll be picked off one by one or destroyed by internal strife, and that's not all. If only we could buy time until at least one system is formed."

Hmm, I see.

"To begin with, you are this world's strongest. If the otherworldly invaders are stronger than you.... this world is finished."

100.

That's quite a burdening statement.
