Damian crossed the room in three long strides and swept Eve into his arms, lifting her effortlessly. She buried her face in his neck, breathing in his scent....pine and smoke and dominance.....and finally, finally, the desperate ache started to ease.
"Six hours," he growled against her ear as he carried her from the office. "You left us for six hours."
"I'm sorry," Eve gasped. "I tried to stay longer, I tried to be normal, but I couldn't....."
"I know." His grip tightened. "We felt it too. Couldn't focus on anything. Could barely control our wolves. Six fucking hours felt like an eternity."
He carried her up the stairs, his pace quick and purposeful. Eve could hear Damon's voice behind them, smoothly taking over the meeting, but she couldn't focus on anything except the man holding her, the heat of his body, the promise of relief.
They didn't make it to the bedroom.
