Chapter 91 - chapter 90

Chapter 90 – Three Shadows of the Void

They all stood in the Cortex, frozen.

Not from fear. But from uncertainty.

The air still buzzed with the remnants of the Void Force, like a storm had just passed through and left their world cracked open.

Barry looked at Cisco. Caitlin looked at Wells. No one spoke.

They didn't know what to do anymore.

No one… except for Dante.

He turned, walking out without a word. Purpose in his steps. A weight on his shoulders so heavy it bent the air around him.

Barry blinked and called after him. "Dante! Where are you going?"

Dante paused, back still turned. Then sighed.

"To end this," he said quietly. "To end me."

The words hit the room like a bomb.

"What?" Cisco stepped forward. "What are you talking about?!"

Dante looked back at them, hollow-eyed. "I'm going to kill myself. And end this nightmare once and for all."

Caitlin gasped. Barry took a step forward, face pale. "Dante, no—"

"I killed Leon," Dante cut in, voice bitter. "I ended his life. And now he's back—wearing death like a second skin. The Void brought him back, not love. Not fate. Just… emptiness."

They didn't understand. He could see it in their eyes.

"You don't get it," he whispered. "He's not my brother anymore. Leon died at my hand. What's walking around now… is just the Void Force wearing his face."

Silence again.

Then Dante looked at Barry.

"He was always ahead of us. Even before I killed him. Faster. Smarter. And now? He has the Void on his side. We can't stop him."

Barry's voice cracked. "You're not alone in this, Dante."

But it was too late.

The Void danced around Dante's body like smoke made of ink and lightning. His form began to blur. The lights in the Cortex flickered again.

And then—

He was gone.

A streak of dark energy tore through Central City, faster than sound, faster than light—faster than Barry.

Dante was running.

And this time, it wasn't to save anyone.

It was to end what should have stayed buried.

He moved through buildings, between moments, his body vibrating with so much force he nearly burned through reality itself. And then—he saw him.

Leon.

Standing atop the roof of an abandoned tower, arms spread wide, like he could feel the city breathing beneath him.

Dante didn't hesitate.

He shot up the side of the building, landing across from his older brother, chest heaving. The wind howled between them.

Leon didn't flinch.

He turned slowly, smiling. "Little brother. You missed me so fast."

Dante didn't speak.

He just stared.

Leon's eyes were still that same blood-red, glowing softly in the dying daylight. His scar still glistened on his forehead—a mark of death and resurrection. His presence bent the very laws of physics around him.

Leon laughed gently. "What? Nothing to say? I am still your big brother, you know. Sure, you killed me. But hey… I'm all-powerful now. So… thanks."

Dante gritted his teeth.

"What do you want from me?"

Leon stepped forward. "Just a chat. Brother to brother."

Dante didn't move. His voice came out low. "You said our little brother… is alive."

At that, Leon's smile faded.

For the first time, something cold passed across his face. Not anger. Not grief. Just… silence.

"I already told you," Leon said. "We all have the Void inside us. But it doesn't awaken unless something… tragic happens."

Dante's heart pounded in his chest.

Leon continued, softly. "Me? I was awakened when Barry's Speed Force touched my dead body. You? You were awakened the day Barry was hit by lightning—because you were there, too. You just didn't realize it."

"And him?" Dante asked. "Our little brother?"

Leon's jaw tensed. "He was killed. By a speedster."

Dante's eyes widened.

His knees nearly buckled.

Killed…?

All these years, Dante believed their younger brother died because of Leon's bad choices—caught in the crossfire of some gang Leon worked with. That was the story. That's what they'd all believed. Even Leon… or so Dante thought.

He looked up, shaking. "No. That's not… true. Is it?"

Leon gave a slow nod. "Barry saw it. But he didn't tell you. Not yet."

Dante's chest collapsed inwards. His mind raced. Barry knew?

He looked back at Leon. "So… you're saying…"

"That the moment our baby brother's neck was snapped by a speedster," Leon finished, "the Void Force within him woke up."

Dante was speechless.

His mouth went dry. His hands trembled. The thought of their youngest brother—alone, terrified, and then gone in a flash—was too much to bear.

Leon took a step forward.

"Do you see now?" he asked. "This isn't about vengeance. It's about truth. We were born with something inside us that doesn't belong in this world. And when death touches us… the Void answers."

"But why?" Dante whispered. "Why come back like this? Why become a monster?"

Leon looked at him, eyes softening for the first time.

"Because I didn't know how else to survive," he said.

And then he smiled again. But this time, it wasn't cruel. It was hollow. Like the smile of someone who forgot what joy felt like.

"And Dante… a word of advice."

Leon's voice lowered into a whisper.

"I mean sure, I want to destroy everything. Burn it all down. Reset the clock."

He stepped even closer, their faces inches apart.

"But if you ever meet our little brother in the future "

He leaned in.

"Run."
