Chapter 63 - chapter 62

Chapter 62 – "The Morning After"

Dante stood in the aftermath of a battlefield, the air still charged with the remnants of his fury. The Void Force glowed faintly around him—no longer burning, no longer screaming with rage—just soft, like embers in a fireplace slowly dying.

He glanced around at the Legends. Some watched him cautiously. Others looked downright scared. Not that he blamed them.

"I always wanted to go back in time," he said softly, almost like he was talking to himself. "To the first day of Earth. The idea of seeing it all start… I loved that."

Nobody responded.

He sighed and looked down at his hands.

"I guess I can do it another time."

His head turned toward Sara Lance, calm now, void of heat.

"Hey, Sara," he asked gently, "what year did I just come from?"

The Legends looked at each other. Ray raised a brow. Nate muttered something to Zari under his breath. Was he joking? Testing them? Had the time stream messed with his head?

Sara gave a slow nod.

"2016," she answered, voice neutral.

Dante smiled at her, warmly this time.

"Thank you, Sara-girl. It's nice to finally meet you all… legends and all that."

He gave a small, two-finger salute and turned away.

"Well, goodbye… for now."

The Void Force pulsed red and dark around his body. It shimmered over his skin, rippling like living shadows. Then, without warning, he vanished. No lightning. No sound. Just gone—ripped through the seams of time as if space itself bent in deference to his will.

2016 – STAR Labs

The Cortex was quiet. Night lingered. The soft hum of computers was the only noise in the air.

Barry, Cisco, Joe, Caitlin, and Wells were sprawled across chairs and sofas, passed out cold. The party had done its job—drinks, dancing, and hours of laughter. Their energy was spent, and they slept like they hadn't in years.

The portal opened with a soft whoosh, and Dante stepped through it silently. No theatrics. No flare. Just quiet, controlled presence.

He looked around at his sleeping friends, letting his eyes linger on each one.

Barry slumped awkwardly against a wall, stil. Joe's head leaned back with a small snore escaping him. Cisco had passed out with a beer still loosely held in his hand. Wells looked like he'd fought the sleep but lost, glasses tilted at an angle.

Then there was Caitlin.

She lay on the small couch, wrapped in a blanket. Her hair was messy, but her face peaceful—though Dante saw the dark rings under her eyes. Her exhaustion went deeper than sleep. He could tell.

He knelt beside her, keeping his distance, but close enough to see her properly.

She looked… fragile.

His fingers twitched before gently brushing a strand of hair from her face.

"I'm sorry," he whispered, his voice cracking. "You shouldn't have had to carry all that."

He wanted to tell her everything. Wanted to hold her, kiss her, whisper promises that would make up for every second he'd been asleep. She and Ronnie weren't together anymore—technically, she was free—but Dante knew that doing anything now would only make the damage worse.

She needed space.

So, he gave it to her.

He stood and stepped away, his eyes lingering for one last second before he turned and walked quietly out of the Cortex.

The hallway outside was cold, the windows glowing with starlight. He looked up through the glass ceiling.

"Man… love is a pain in the ass," he muttered to himself.

Morning

The Cortex slowly stirred to life.

Cisco was the first to groan awake, followed closely by Joe. Barry stood up and stretched like he'd just woken from a nap instead of a full night. Caitlin blinked the sleep from her eyes, confused at first, until she noticed a fresh cup of coffee beside her.

"Morning, sleepyheads," Dante said from the corner.

He stood with a tray of coffee cups in hand, grinning like he'd just made pancakes for a family brunch.

Everyone stared at him.

"Dude," Cisco said slowly, rubbing his temple. "Why are you so awake? You drank more than any of us."

Dante shrugged. "Void Force hangovers don't exist, apparently."

Barry raised a brow. "Void Force? Did you go somewhere?"

Dante opened his mouth, but before he could answer, a loud ping echoed through the Cortex.

Sara Lance.

Her face appeared on the main screen in a video message, her tone clipped and direct.

"Hey Team Flash," she began, clearly not in the mood for pleasantries. "I'm sending this to let you know something serious went down. Your boy Dante—he showed up. In 2047"

Barry's eyes widened.

Caitlin sat up straighter.

Sara continued.

"He killed a rogue Time Lord, shut down a reality fracture, and then threatened to kill Ronnie."

The entire room froze.

"He didn't. But he could've. He left peacefully after that. We're all okay, but… he's not the same guy who went into a coma."

The screen blinked off.

Nobody said a word.

Cisco turned to Dante slowly, stunned.

"Dude… did you ask me yesterday how fast you'd have to run to break the time barrier?"

Dante smiled sheepishly, sipping his coffee. "Yeah."

"You actually did it?"

"Yep."

Barry stepped forward, expression tight. "And you saw Ronnie?"

Dante didn't look away. "Yeah. I gave him a choice. He made the right one."

Joe ran a hand over his face. "This is insane…"

Wells leaned forward, eyes narrowed. "You accessed the Void Force and survived a jump to the future… and back? That's unprecedented."

"I didn't just survive," Dante said quietly. "I remembered."

Everyone looked at him.

"I remembered what Ronnie did to Caitlin. How he broke her. Because i saw it when i was searching for the right time to go to .And I couldn't just sit here pretending it never happened."

He turned to Caitlin.

"But I didn't do anything you wouldn't have wanted me to. I left him alive."

Caitlin stared at him for a long time.

She stood, walked over, and hugged him.

Not tight. Not passionate.

Just a quiet, thank-you kind of hug.

When she pulled back, she whispered, "I'm glad you're back."

Dante smiled, but there was sadness behind it.

"Me too."
