Erwin's words carried genuine respect, and Professor McGonagall's stern expression softened. "Of course," she said. "Erwin, I've never doubted your talent. It's a great stroke of luck for Harry to learn from you."
Harry nodded eagerly. "Yes, Professor."
"Study hard under Erwin," she added. "One day, you'll see it was the best decision you ever made."
Harry bobbed his head again, and Erwin placed a hand over his heart, bowing deeply. "Thank you for your kind words, Professor. I don't deserve such praise. Studying under Hogwarts' professors is the greatest honor of my life."
Professor McGonagall straightened his collar with a fond smile. "Good lad."
Erwin turned to Professor Flitwick. "Professor, if I may, I'd like Hermione to join us too. You know how hard she's been working to fit into Hogwarts and the wizarding world. As her friend, I've been concerned. If you trust me with her—"
Flitwick beamed. "Naturally! Shall I fetch her for you?"
"No need to trouble yourself," Erwin replied.
"It's no bother," Flitwick insisted. "I'll pop in and share your invitation with Miss Granger. If she's keen, she'll join you shortly."
Erwin inclined his head in thanks, and McGonagall headed toward the Gryffindor common room. "See you at breakfast, Erwin."
"Yes, Professor," he called after her.
As she vanished inside, Professor Sprout sidled up with a teasing grin. "Erwin, you've picked a Gryffindor and a Ravenclaw, but snubbed Hufflepuff? That's a bit partial, isn't it?"
Erwin blinked, caught off guard. Were the professors practically queuing up to deliver promising students? It felt like a recruitment fair.
"Professor Sprout, you're too kind," he said smoothly. "I meant no slight—Hufflepuff students thrive so brilliantly under your guidance. I'd hardly presume to share my limited knowledge with them."
Sprout laughed heartily. "Flatterer. But I know your worth. Truth be told, I'm a bit of a layabout in the mornings—too fond of my breakfasts. If you're willing, I'd like to send along our prefect, Cedric Diggory, for your sessions. You know him?"
Erwin nodded. "Of course. He's a fine upper-year—I've heard nothing but praise in Slytherin. I admire his easy way with people. And please, Professor, you're not the least bit overweight; you're positively robust."
Her smile widened. "I like you more every minute, Erwin. If Cedric needs a hand, lend it—though Hufflepuff has its own prefects, we could use your guidance."
"As you wish," Erwin said. "I'd be delighted to help."
"It's a deal, then." Sprout's eyes twinkled. "Your study sessions are a marvel, Erwin. The benefits to these young witches and wizards are clear. You're the most impressive student I've seen at Hogwarts."
He bowed again. "Under your tutelage, I'll only improve. But it all depends on your guidance."
She tapped his forehead lightly. "Anytime you fancy learning Herbology, my door's open."
Erwin watched her enter the Hufflepuff common room, then turned as Hermione emerged from the Ravenclaw one, arms laden with books. She hurried over. "I was going to ask Professor Flitwick myself after the session, but you beat me to it!"
Erwin chuckled. "Just tying up loose ends. Come on—let's head in. I need to introduce you lot to the Slytherins."
Harry and Hermione exchanged uneasy glances.
"What's the matter?" Erwin asked. "Nervous? Don't be. Slytherin's got a rough reputation, but they're decent folk—at least, that's my take. To win them over, though, you'll need to prove you're sharper than they are. Pride runs deep here. But I know you can manage it. After all, I'm vouching for you."
They shared another look, resolve hardening their expressions. Erwin believed in them; they wouldn't disappoint. With his lead, they'd rise even higher. That was the plan.
Erwin noted their determination and smiled inwardly. Perfect. A bit of friendly competition would do wonders—far better than drudging away unnoticed.
He led them into the Slytherin common room, where the first-years sat in studious silence, noses buried in books. Whispers were rare and soft, the atmosphere one of disciplined focus. Erwin approved; his housemates were shaping up nicely.
The quiet tugged at an old memory—his final year at Muggle school, buried under revision. He shook it off; no time for ghosts.
At the podium, with Harry and Hermione close behind, Erwin rang the small bell. The Slytherins looked up expectantly.
"Everyone," he announced, "let me introduce Hermione Granger and Harry Potter. You all know them. Starting today, they'll join our study sessions."
Murmurs rippled through the group.
Erwin's frown silenced them instantly. "I didn't give permission to chatter."
He continued firmly. "I know some of you look down on outsiders. But I've said it before: your prestige isn't handed down by blood. It was forged by your parents and ancestors through grit and skill. You're just carrying the torch—don't forget that."
