Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: The ever venerable Goldship

"Gold Ship-san? Who's your pops?"

"Hmm, I don't think I'll tell you." She said with a slight lift in her tone.

"Why?"

"It's a secret~" She was grinning as she said that a cheeky smile on her face as she approached slowly but surely.

"How so?"

"Well, it's a secret."

"But why?"

"Because it's a secret." Gold Ship's face was flat, her tone dry and succinct.

"Why is it a secret though?" she put her finger on her lips and thought about why it would be a secret though it didn't make any sense to her at all, "It's just a name right?"

Gold Ship just stared at her as if pondering something, what she didn't know, she opened her mouth to say something before sighing and going straight to her side of the dorm, "I'm going to bed…"

"Good night then Gold Ship-san."

"Good night."

She looked outside and saw that the sun had already fully set, so she also decided to sleep.

Memories of days long past flashed through her mind as she slept but one stood out to her, indeed, it was one of her most cherished memories.

For how could her first meeting with her consort not be among those memories she so cherished.

The day was one that in a certain sense was regular for her family, that being she and her siblings were put in a box by their father and sent to their "uncle".

It was a… oddly enough recurring event until their "uncle" actually asked her father to stop sending them to him for whatever reason.

It was a rather depressing event, in other words it wouldn't be for off to say that she missed the taste of the food he made.

She wouldn't deny the fact that it was some of the best she had ever had, few chefs have ever, in her opinion, even managed to reach one tenth of his skill in the kitchen.

But those were thoughts and stories for another time, after all she had a much more important story to think of this time.

When her uncle opened the door to take them in he treated them as he usually would, in which he would entertain them and then let them have fun amongst themselves as he cooked lunch and made dinner, before giving them all a bath.

Now normally she would have been well behaved playing with her siblings and eating the delicious, no, delicious wouldn't even be a good enough word to describe the food her uncle made.

Exquisite then?

Yes, exquisite, she would eat the exquisite food he made before he gave them all a bath.

But… this time was different, it was as if something, no someone had called her to explore the forest near his house.

And so she explored.

She visited a small creek, climbed some trees and even explored the openings of a cave, before eventually she entered a clearing and there… she saw her for the first time.

With hair of such pure white that to say that it matched the splendour of silver would be an insult to it, for not even the purest of clouds could match the purity of it's form.

Eyes that could only ever be compared to gemstones with the way that the light even deigned to reflect itself of off it.

In a sense, she was perfect, she was the most beautiful uma she had ever seen.

She felt as if she was in peace by just having beared witness to this work of art, to this person hand crafted by god themselves.

She felt warm in her chest just staring at her, she felt complete by just being in her presence.

She would only learn later on, after a couple more of their meetings in the forest, that what she was feeling could only be called "love".

"Love" what a beautiful feeling, it was intoxicating in a sense, the more she tasted of it, within her beloved's presence the more and more she yearned for it.

When she had asked for her name, she had tried to say her name fully, but her underdeveloped tongue couldn't quite say her name properly.

"Orfy," her beloved said, her voice as gentle as the morning sun and as soothing as a spring creek, "That is a beautiful name."

Ah love, what a beautiful feeling.

If only she could be in her beloved consort's presence forevermore.

…

She got out of bed with a groan, she would have to get used to sleeping in something that wasn't a futon, that wasn't to say that the bed wasn't uncomfortable, no it wasn't very comfortable, if anything it was a bit too comfortable really.

But… oddly enough she didn't dream last night, which was a shame, she would have loved to spend more time with Orfy, even if it was just a dream, but… as her old man would say, "C'est la vie."

She looked to her side and saw that Gold Ship was still asleep, even if she was basically everywhere.

It was a miracle she hadn't fallen off of her bed really, but it seems like her blanket wasn't so lucky.

She considered whether she should pick it up and place it over her or not.

It would objectively be the kind thing to do, but… she looked at the clock near her bedside table, it was 7 and school did start around 9, so… should she wake her up?

After thinking long and hard about it she decided not to and instead decided to wash up.

When she left the bathroom she was face to face with a Gold Ship who was already fully dressed and… somehow already washed up?

How!? She was in the bathroom and last she checked there was only one bathroom in the dorm room!

"Gold Ship-san… how are you already washed up? I entered the bathroom when you were still asleep."

Gold Ship looked at her and gave an almost cheshire grin, "It's a secret~"

"A… secret," her tone was flat as she looked at her roommate.

"Yes, a secret."

How many secrets did she have?

Sure she's only heard of two secrets but still!

What's next she had memories from another world!

Gold Ship chuckle as she looked at her with a grin, "I can tell what you're thinking."

"Wha—" she sputtered, "H—how! No! You're lying!"

"Oh really? Well let's just say on the matter of how many secrets I have and about that question let's just say… it's a secret~."

"Ah."

She gave up.

"Either way," Gold Ship started, "Come on let's go, I want to annoy McQueen."

"Ah, okay," she decided she wouldn't question Gold Ship anymore, if only for her sanity.

And so they left their dorm room, and made way for the academy, but oddly enough she couldn't help but feel an… almost longing gaze on her back as both her and Gold Ship left the dorm building.

But… she decided she wouldn't question it.

It couldn't be that big of a deal after all.

Either way after a bit of walking they managed to make it to the academy, they both said good morning to Tazuna and went to the cafeteria to go and get breakfast.

The food was a bit bland, which wasn't a bad thing mind you, if anything it was her fault for being spoiled, but it was good enough for her to go and get seconds.

She did have to wait in line for a bit.

But that was to be expected, it stood to reason that people were probably a bit hungry.

Alas when it finally became her turn to get an extra serving…

"Eh! What do you mean you have to make extra food! What do you mean somebody took almost all of the food! What do you mean this happens everyday!"

As she kept asking questions she didn't notice the grey haired umamusume who went to her own table with a plate filled to the brim with food.

In other words, it was a regular morning at Tracen Academy.

Author's note

I'm sorry for the late update, I tried to get it out yesterday but I was sick to hell and back so what were you going to do.

On a different note, I'm not that happy with the beginning of the chapter I think it could have been a bit better but I'm not sure how.

Realized as well that I miswrote Goldshi's name...

Chapter is a bit shorter than I would have liked as well….

Either way, GreekAntrielos signing off.
