Chapter 3 - The Village

Walking through this new village, he can already tell it's more secure and lively than the other one. it was a sharp contrast between the two, one was destroyed and looked like the aftermath of a warzone while this one was fully intact, children playing in the streets, villagers going about their day doing various things and the guards while few clearly kept this place safe. The walls around the village also helped in its defense. The survivors he had brought were taken somewhere to be treated for any wounds they received and resettled into the village. Taren did get some gazes sent his way and he has an idea why. He doesn't look like a native to this area. The people he's seen so far wear completely different clothes. His Beskar Mandalorian armor also makes him stick out like a sore thumb, add his weapons and it's clear he isn't a civilian. They might think he's whatever a Huntsman is. He guesses it's some kind of role in this planet that people know about. But he can't make enough theories as he doesn't have the proper amount of information.

The two guards guiding him notice that Taren is looking at the people around them while they walked down the main street towards the village leader's building. Taren then hears one of the guards start to talk to him.

"Something wrong?" Guard 2 asked.

"No." Taren said calmly. "I'm used to getting looks from people."

"It's rare for a Huntsman to suddenly show up with a group of people who survived a Grimm attack." Guard 1 comments.

"I'm not a Huntsman." Taren corrected.

"You're not?" Guard 2 asked, sounding surprised. "Then what are you?"

"A Bounty Hunter." Taren said.

"You expecting payment or something?" Guard 2 asked, using a distrustful tone.

"No."

"Wait, so you did this free of charge?" Guard 2 asked once again, this time surprised.

"Yes."

"Why?"

"It's the right thing to do." Taren answered. "I may be a Bounty Hunter, but I have morals."

The two Guards looked at each other in astonishment. The Mandalorian hired gun knew why. Bounty Hunters aren't often the best morally and they are known for being scumbags, greedy and selfish. Easily swayed by money, but not him. He only took jobs that hurt the Empire, benefited the Rebellion or helped those in need. He made good money from it too so that was good. But he isn't driven by money like other Bounty Hunters, however he then began thinking about it. He doesn't know if his Credits will work on this planet meaning he'll need to get some money native to this planet if he wants to blend in better. Since this world knows the concept of Bounty Hunters, maybe he can use his skills once more. Of course, he won't be driven solely by profit as he still wants to help where he can.

"We're here." Guard 1 said.

Taren is dragged out of his thoughts as he notices they have reached a building in the center of the village. More guards are around this building, so he guessed that the Village Leader was inside. The two building guards standing beside the front door notice their arrival and address them.

"Got business with the leader?" Building Guard 1 asked.

"This man brought a bunch of survivors of a village attack here for their safety. Figured our leader would want to meet him." Guard 1 said.

"He does like to meet good people." Building Guard 2 said to his fellow Building Guard.

"Alright, we'll let you in. But don't cause any trouble." Building Guard 1 said, aiming the last part at Taren.

After being let inside the building, the two guards who have been guiding him continue to guide him towards the leader's office. The interior of this building let off a cozy vibe and Taren found it pleasant. Given the life he lived, he hadn't had many cozy feelings. Especially after he started working with the Rebellion for specific jobs. He then gets thinking about it. Will Han, Leia, Chewbacca and Luke be alright without him? The Empire now knows he's affiliated with the Rebels, so he's gained a even bigger target on his back. But the others are actively dodging Imperial patrols and more while he's here on this planet. He isn't sure if this world is apart of the Empire or not, one side thinks it isn't due to the architecture and lack of advanced technology that and given the new things like Grimm and Huntsman—whatever that is—it's clear to him to a degree that this planet might not be connected to the wider galaxy. This is good for him, it means he can lay low much easier.

"Here we are." Guard 2 said as they came to a stop.

Taren looked at the door and it did have a small sign on it saying "Village Chief's Office" which was convenient. Guard 1 knocks on the door gently before a voice is heard from the other side of the door telling them to come in. Guard 1 opens the door only enough to lean in to speak to the village leader.

"Sir, there's someone you'll want to meet." Guard 1 said.

"Why?" The Chief said.

"He brought a bunch of survivors of a village attack here to our village." Guard 1 said.

"Well, bring them in then." The Chief said.

The Guard nods and steps back before he opens the door fully and lets Taren inside. As he entered the room, he saw a decently sized office with various bookshelves on the walls, a desk with two seats in front of it and at this desk was the village chief who looked exactly like what a village leader would look like. When he entered, the village chief immediately took notice of his appearance before Guard 1 closed the door behind Taren.

"So, you brought survivors to my village?" The Chief asked.

"that's correct."

"May I ask why?" The Chief asked. "Not that it's a bad thing."

"Because it's the right thing to do." Taren answers

"Well, it certainly is refreshing to see people like you around." The Chief said. "But I have to ask. What's with all the weapons?"

"I'm a Bounty Hunter." Taren answers.

"A Bounty Hunter, huh? Can't say I've heard of many Bounty Hunters who do good things." The Chief said. "I take it you received Huntsman training?"

"No, I don't even know what a Huntsman is." Taren answers.

This confused the Chief greatly and it was evident from his facial expression. But Taren had to ask this next question.

"What planet am I on?" Taren asked.

"Planet?" the Chief asked. "Well, it's Remnant. What are you from another planet?"

This question was asked in a joking manner, but this joking attitude goes away when the Chief notices that Taren wasn't joking.

"Are you actually from another planet?" the Chief asked.

"I'm from the planet Mandalore, I'm a Mandalorian." Taren said as he removed his helmet to reveal his human appearance.

"Well, you look human to me." The Chief said.

"The galaxy is a large place." Taren commented.

"Well, if you are from another world, why are you here?" The Chief asked.

"Let's just say I want some where I can lay low for a while. A Galactic Empire painted a target on my back, and I need to wait for the heat to die down." Taren answers.

This made the Chief nervous and Taren instantly knew he shared too much so he needed to defuse the situation.

"Don't worry. I highly doubt the Empire will find this planet." Taren said in a calming way.

"How can you be certain?" The Chief asked.

"Your world doesn't appear on my navigation systems meaning it's an Unknown world. That and I made a blind hyperspace jump meaning that Empire can't find me or this planet." Taren explained. "Your world is safe."

The Chief still had anxiety but took the Mandalorian's word for it.

"I hate to ask things of you, but I'll need help blending in." Taren said.

"In what way?" the Chief asked.

"Well firstly, I need to know everything I can about this world. Remnant, was it? If you could help me learn all I need, it would be greatly appreciated." Taren said.

"Well, what do you want to know?" The Chief asked.
