Chapter 61 - Chapter 60: A Gift from Anna

Gwen sat in her car across from the cemetery gate, a worried look in her eyes as she gazed at the entrance.

She knew that Hawk's sister had died in September 2009 during the Hulk vs. Abomination battle.

Gwen had even guessed why Hawk was working so hard to become stronger.

Even though Hawk could get stronger just by practicing boxing every day, and even one-shot Lizard Dr., the way he was getting stronger seemed unscientific.

But those things no longer mattered.

What mattered was that guessing it and Hawk confirming it himself were two different things.

But…

That was Abomination and Hulk.

Abomination was fine; he was already dead.

But Hulk?

Could Hawk beat him? Also, Hulk seemed to have fought alongside other superheroes. If Hawk were to fight Hulk, those superheroes would probably come out to stop Hawk, right?

Could Hawk win?

Gwen was a little worried.

Yes.

She was worried about this, not about other things, such as persuading Hawk to abandon hatred, to embrace love and peace, and not hatred.

Tsk!

It was Hawk's only living relative in this world who had died.

If he were truly to abandon revenge, then why did the U.S. retaliate after the September 11th incident in 2001?

Wasn't it about love and peace? Why retaliate then?

Furthermore, if it were truly about love and peace, would the U.S. still be fanning flames and creating conflicts all over the world?

Gwen sneered inwardly, rolling her eyes.

She wasn't a naive, innocent girl educated by public schools; she was a smart and innocent girl who had consistently received scholarships from elementary school all the way to private high school.

Just as Gwen was furrowing her brows in thought, a long-legged beauty with an exquisite face and sunglasses appeared at the cemetery gate.

It was Anna.

However, unlike her smiling, detailed conversation with Hawk just now, Anna's exquisite face was now extremely cold, and her walk carried a powerful aura.

Behind her followed a black-clad bodyguard carrying a golf bag.

Soon.

Accompanied by the roar of a fiery red Porsche engine nearby, Anna drove the sports car, disappearing like a streak of light on the road.

The black-clad bodyguard drove a black Chevrolet SUV away from the cemetery.

After a while.

Hawk also appeared at the cemetery gate.

Gwen withdrew her gaze from the disappearing Chevrolet SUV in the rearview mirror, looked at Hawk walking towards her with a carry-on suitcase, opened the door, and got out of the car.

Hawk opened the trunk and placed the carry-on suitcase inside.

Gwen looked at the carry-on suitcase, which made her car feel like it sank a little as soon as it was placed inside: "What is this?"

Hawk moved aside: "You can take a look."

Gwen glanced at Hawk, then reached out and directly opened the carry-on suitcase.

Instantly.

Gwen's pupils dilated.

"Hiss!"

"Hmm."

Hawk looked at Gwen, who had gasped, and said with a smile, "I was the same when I first saw it."

Gwen quickly closed the carry-on suitcase, then swiftly looked around to confirm no one was there before turning to Hawk, blinking uncontrollably.

"How did it get here?"

"Traded for five weapons."

Hawk shrugged, and at this point, looking at Gwen, his lips curved slightly: "You should know which five."

Gwen was slightly stunned, then her eyes blinked again.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"Gwen."

"Hmm?"

"My acting is not good, but your method of putting things back in place is not good either."

"…"

The photo of him and his sister Anya on the nightstand.

The sheet under the bed, clearly not his packing method, wrapping weapons.

If no accidents occurred, Gwen must have been shocked when she saw the weapons under the bed, and after opening them, she forgot how he had packed them.

Gwen opened her mouth, suddenly feeling caught.

The next second.

"Bang!"

Gwen quickly pressed down the trunk, then said to Hawk with a serious expression, "The people from New York University have arrived. We need to get back to school quickly."

After speaking.

She didn't even look at Hawk, turning rigidly and walking towards the driver's seat, though at the moment she turned, her earlobes were slightly red.

She looked very cute.

Hawk looked at Gwen, who seemed to be fleeing in disarray, and smiled slightly, but he didn't say anything more. Instead, he pulled open the car door and got in.

Gwen then stepped on the gas pedal, driving away from the spot.

On the way back to school, because she was thinking about being caught, Gwen deliberately kept a straight face, not looking at Hawk and not giving him any chance to speak.

To describe it in one sentence:

Gwen remained silent, merely driving.

Hawk, meanwhile, sat in the passenger seat, recalling what Anna had said before she left.

A gift?

What gift?

Soon, the journey from the cemetery to Midtown High School, which usually took about forty-five minutes, was covered in only thirty minutes thanks to Gwen's exceptional driving today.

Gwen, who had just hung up with Mrs. Snow, quickly parked the car and said to Hawk, "The people from New York University are already in the office."

Hawk nodded, pushed the door open, and got out of the car.

Gwen, who also got out, called out to Hawk and made a cheering gesture.

"Go, Hawk."

"Okay."

Hawk responded and walked towards Mrs. Snow's office.

Gwen did not follow along.

After all, this was a New York University interview, not Berkeley's.

Moreover, this kind of interview is quite formal, and it wouldn't look good for an outsider to follow in.

"Knock knock!"

"Come in."

"Mrs. Snow."

After hearing the voice from inside the office, Hawk pushed the door open, his gaze sweeping over a meticulously dressed middle-aged man sitting on the sofa, then he looked at Mrs. Snow: "You were looking for me?"

Mrs. Snow beckoned to Hawk, and after Hawk closed the door, she introduced the middle-aged man who had stood up from the sofa.

"This is Mr. Gary Cooper. Mr. Cooper is an admissions officer from New York University."

"Gary, this is Hawk, the one I told you about."

Hawk quickly extended his right hand.

"Mr. Cooper."

"Hawk."

Gary, the admissions officer from New York University, shook Hawk's hand, smiled, then returned to a serious expression: "I saw your scholarship application. I'm here today to ask a few questions. Please have a seat."

Hawk nodded, then sat on the opposite sofa.

Gary Cooper, having sat back down, also picked up the notebook he had placed aside earlier. Looking at Hawk sitting opposite him, he began today's main topic.

Today was both an assessment and an interview.

If the assessment was satisfactory, the admissions officer, who had significant autonomy, could announce the results in advance.

Of course.

The premise was that you were outstanding enough.

An hour later.

Gary Cooper closed the notebook in his hand, then, under Mrs. Snow's somewhat expectant gaze, looked at Hawk, smiled, stood up, and extended his right hand to Hawk.

"Congratulations, Hawk, welcome to New York University."

"Hiss! This is great."

Mrs. Snow, upon hearing this, covered her mouth, excited.

Hawk was also stunned, then quickly stood up and shook Gary's outstretched right hand.

"Thank you, Mr. Cooper."

"You should thank my colleague Anna; she's the one who put your information in front of me."

"…"
