Prologue

◇ General information:

Resonance:

A mechanical voice that resounds in someone's head after slaying an awakened or a Purge Beast. Allows people to see their unique ability(s) and attribute(s).

Trials:

Tasks that must be completed in order to climb the ranks of enlightenment.

The purge realm:

The home of the Purge beasts. The Purge Realm is accessible to humans, but no known settlement has been successfully established, with the only possible way of reaching it being through a "Purge Gate". It is a world that has been ravaged, one that does not adhere to the mundane laws of reality.

Ranks:

A categorized group of titles used to determine how far along someone is on the path of enlightenment. There are seven ranks:

Dormant

Awakened

Crested

Crowned

Sage

Celestial

Divine

There are also their corrupted counterparts used to categorize Purge Beasts:

Strayed

Aberrant

Fallen

Forsaken

Accursed

Wretched

Vile

Classes:

A categorized group of titles used to determine how powerful a being is compared to creatures of the same rank:

Beast

Monster

Fiend

Demon

Tyrant

Terror

Leviathan

This means that an Awakened Monster would have a higher likelihood of defeating an Awakened Beast. Boosts of power are only visibly prominent among the higher classes such as the Tyrant class.

◇ Common Terminology

Realm Thread:

The fuel for all Magical abilities.

Awakening crystal:

A crystal made from condensed Realm Thread, found inside Purge Beasts. It is the first and only requirement for passing the first trial. There are 3 Tiers to Awakening Crystals:

Impure

Tainted

Pure

The only benefit received after consuming an awakening crystal as an awakened is the increase in fragment count. Consuming too many awakening crystals of the Impure or tainted tier in a short amount of time can lead to loss of sanity, nausea, death, or even corruption.

Fragments:

A numerical system used to determine how far along someone is in achieving the next class. The number of fragments needed to go on to the next class is as follows:

Beast: 0

Monster: 2,000

Fiend: 3,000

Demon: 3,500

Tyrant: 4,000

Terror: 5,500

Leviathan: 7,000

Upon each class, the fragment count is reset. This means that after achieving Monster class, it is reset to 0. Killing a being of lower rank does not reward a fragment, even after being consumed for an unknown reason. Killing a being of higher rank, will give you double the amount of fragments, with each class only adding on 1 extra fragment.

Echo:

The term used to describe the generalized magical abilities and attributes someone has.

Vestige:

The corrupted form of an Echo. Some Corrupted amd all Benighted selves possess one of these.

Echo ability:

The magical ability that is tied to one's Echo, usually tailored to one's personality and actions.

Attributes:

A person's physical, emotional, or mental traits are made mystical by the process of awakening.

Soul-Bound weapons:

The true physical manifestation of someone or something's echo ability. Coming in many different forms, such as:

Weapon

Armor

Talisman

Domain

Domain is the rarest. There is no limit to how many Soul-Bound weapons a person can have. There are seven Tiers to a Soul-Bound weapon, each having a certain amount of Fragments required to achieve the next one:

I: 0 Fragments

II: 1000 Fragments

III: 1500 Fragments

IV: 1750 Fragments

V: 2000 Fragments

VI: 2750 Fragments

VII: 3500 Fragments

Curse Of Profanity:

A debilitating effect on one's body, mind, soul, or even their echo ability in rare cases. It is acquired after becoming an Awakened. It is the consequence of going up in the ranks of enlightenment. A new Curse of Profanity is acquired after becoming a Transcendent and a Celestial.

Legacies:

Legacies are the combination of someone or something's near-impossible feat alongside the recognition of Resonance. It is an ability that is capable of being passed down, giving the successor many benefits, and occasionally debilitating factors. Legacies also have activation conditions, one might be death, another might be love, and hatred could be one too.
