Adrian smiled. He had gotten what he wanted and was satisfied. "So you see... there is no point bothering with the blanket since I have seen it all. I didn't think you would be a virgin either. Well, now that you have seen that. I bet you know best than to keep your mouth sealed over everything or I will send this to the media, after of course, erasing my face." He produced his wallet from his pants pocket and drew out some dollar bills, which he flung at her. "You can find your way, get dressed and get out before people notice." he said, heading to the kitchen.
In tears, April quickly got dressed after he entered the kitchen. She went to meet him there to give him a piece of her mind.
"What else do you have to say now?" he turned to her. He was about to make coffee for himself.
In truth, she had nothing much to say. She took a few steps closer to him. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry for my behavior. Please forgive me, but at least, delete the video. I did nothing to deserve that."
He shook his head with a bitter smile. "It's not like it matters. By the way, you enjoyed yourself as much as I did too. So, no big deal." His hands trailed down her breasts as he spoke.
He hardly finished what he was saying before she struck him hard on the head. He dragged her by the hair and pushed her against the wall, but she returned a hard kick in his groin that made him leave her as he doubled over. He was about to grab a glass cup as he tried to stand up, but she pushed him back to the floor and he hit his head hard against the cabinet behind him and laid still on the floor.
Next, she heard footsteps approaching from the living room.
April's heart thumped as she stared at him. She looked around desperately in the kitchen for a place to hide, and finally crawled into the cabinet beneath the sink, her vantage position, through the tiny openings from the cabinet, she struggled to hold her breath as she watched him walk in slowly. It was the bald guy.
"Hey, Adrian. Are you okay? What happened?" he inquired as he stooped low and turned him over but jerked back in fear immediately, tripping over himself. April covered her mouth as she whimpered quietly in great fear and worry. A good portion of Adrain's head and face was bloodied. Quickly, the baldy guy regained himself, got up and hastily searched Adrian's pockets. He took his phone and wallet, which contained his credit cards, and some dollar bills before hurrying away.
April waited a while to be sure he was gone before crawling out, trembling all over. What if he was dead? What if she was declared wanted for murder? She thought as she emerged from the cabinet quietly and left the kitchen on tiptoes. Thankfully, none of her things were on the couch, save her shades on the table, so there was nothing the baldy guy must have seen to indicate she was still around. No. She was wrong. The thought suddenly struck her. He must have seen her shoes at the entrance. What if he was hanging around somewhere, waiting for her to come out? Well, first things first. Taking her handkerchief, she picked the remote and flipped on the TV. She managed to locate the video and deleted it immediately. Though something in her head told her that he might possibly have a double copy, and her heart failed when she imagined the copy must be in his phone. If that baldy guy had not taken it, she might have as well smashed it.
She decided to step out after throwing the blanket in a bucket of water inside the bathroom, being determined to leave out any traces of her fingerprints (the places she could remember touching) to lessen the suspicion on her. Though deep down, she was aware that was not entirely possible.
It was a good thing she was dressed like a guy already, she thought, as she adjusted her cap and picked her shades from the table.
She was putting on her shoes when she heard the siren of an ambulance and police vehicle. The baldy guy must have called them, she guessed. Now, what would she do? She tried to think. Since this was the last floor, there had to be a door that led to the roof. She headed back to the kitchen and found the door. She stepped out to the roof, and crawled on her knees, to avoid being seen. Next, she looked around for an emergency ladder that faced a more busy road where anyone would hardly give attention to a guy on a ladder. At least that was what she looked like. From her black clothes, they could easily think she was a maintenance guy or something. Here, she summoned courage and managed to climb down. All her life, she had always being scared of heights, but the fear was gone for the sake of a greater fear she had to evade.
She had barely touched the ground when an elderly man with full white hair stopped right at her front. "Is there a fire?" he nodded to the ladder.
She gave him a stiff smile, shaking her head. "No. My friend forgot I was inside and locked me in. We were playing a silly game" she hopped away quickly as she spoke, before he could ask more questions. She didn't think she would be able to lie so easily with ease.
As she joined the throng of people on the street, she wondered if she had done the right thing by leaving him there. Since she was a nurse, she knew exactly what to do in such an emergency situation, and since he was a doctor on his own part, he would have a medical kit stashed somewhere in his bedroom. She thought of heading straight to the train station, so she could catch a bus to Nashville, but it was unfortunate that she didn't have any money left on her, save her credit card. If only she had taken the money Adrian flung at her then, things would have been easier for her, and it wasn't like she had much left in her account either. Now the bald guy had snatched it before leaving. Or should she head back home first and let them know she was kidnapped, while taking out a stroll yesterday? No way. That was a dumb idea.
She was confused. In her state of confusion, someone tapped her from behind and she looked back sharply. It was Frank. Her dad's friend. He looked amazed to see her. Her heart raced.
