Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 Superpower Truth + His Do-or-Die Oath to Her

You're telling me the world ends in days—and we fight Mutated Beasts with Superpowers?

Kael stared at Elara, his mind reeling. But the warmth of her hand lingered on his palm—she hadn't snapped, hadn't pulled away in anger.

Could it be… she didn't hate him as much anymore?

He replayed their recent moments, a wild excitement bubbling up. Her attitude had shifted, and he'd be damned if he let this slip.

Elara's cheeks flushed like ripe peaches. Kael's gaze darkened, desire flaring hot.

"Nothing else?" She shifted uncomfortably, eager to escape his intense stare. "Then I'm going to my room."

This man was insatiable. She'd have to be careful—slip up in front of their parents, and she'd never atone.

As for Kael… maybe someday, she could find him someone worthy. Redirect his twisted feelings.

If only she could fix his obsession, everything would be perfect.

"Wait." Kael grabbed her wrist, panic flashing. He quickly changed the subject before she snapped. "Why stockpile all this? Did someone mess with you? Tell me—I'll crush them."

Elara turned to face him, her mind racing. It was time to tell him. Even if he didn't believe her, he'd be prepared when the apocalypse hit.

"Will you believe me?" She sat back down, her gaze piercing his.

Kael leaned closer, savoring her proximity. "If you say it, I believe it. No questions asked."

Elara's heart skipped a beat. She glanced at the TV, steadying her voice.

"The apocalypse is coming."

Kael froze. For a long moment, he stared—then shock faded into a menacing frown.

Her tone was calm, matter-of-fact. But that calm sent a chill down his spine.

"On the 14th, a bloody fog will cover the world. It'll last a full day and night."

She spoke slowly, every word sharp. "On the 15th, when the fog lifts, all plants and animals will mutate. They'll hunt humans without mercy."

"Seawater will rise, flooding coastal cities."

"Sea creatures will crawl ashore, hungry for flesh."

"A mouse will grow as big as a cat. One paw can tear a grown man apart."

"Their speed, strength, defense—all doubled. Some mutants will even ignore bullets." She paused, voice softening. "It's humanity's catastrophe. Pure hell."

Kael stayed silent, jaw tight as steel. If anyone else said this, he'd laugh—maybe punch them. But it was Elara.

"So we just wait to die?" He finally spoke, voice rough with suppressed rage.

"God closes one door, but opens another." Elara smiled faintly, relieved he didn't dismiss her.

"The fog mutates beasts and plants… and humans. It awakens Superpowers. That's how we fight back—how we survive."

"Superpowers?" Kael's eyes lit up, a feral glint闪过. He knew the term—games, movies, novels. Every man dreamed of being unstoppable.

Especially a man like him.

"Ordinary Superpowers fall into five elements: gold, wood, water, fire, earth." Elara nodded, spilling everything. "Some mutate into Ultimate Elements—rare as hell, but far stronger than ordinary ones. No regular user stands a chance."

"There are others too—ice, thunder, wind. Auxiliary powers like invisibility or mind-reading." She hesitated, then added. "Special powers exist—space, time, spirit. But they're so rare, most will never see one."

"Anyone who awakens can fight Mutated Beasts head-on. Those who don't… they rely on Superpower users to survive."

"What about levels?" Kael pressed, leaning forward, urgency palpable.

"Both Superpower users and Mutated Beasts rank Level 1 to 9." Elara's tone turned somber. "To level up, you need energy from Beast Cores—found in mutated creatures."

"Mutated Beasts crave Superpower users' flesh too. It makes them stronger."

She sighed. "After the apocalypse, supplies will be scarce. People will kill for a can of food, a bottle of water."

"Guns won't hurt Mutated Beasts… but they'll tear through humans like paper."

Kael fell deep in thought. When he looked up, his eyes were sharp as blades—ready to fight, ready to protect.

"Too bad there's no space Superpower." Elara muttered. "Carrying supplies will be a nightmare—everyone will covet them."

Kael's breath hitched. He reached out, voice gentle but unshakable. "I'll handle it. As long as I'm alive, I'll protect you and Mom and Dad. No matter what."

He paused, tone turning obsessive. "I'll burn the world down before letting anything hurt you."

Elara's chest tightened. Why him? She was ordinary—bad attitude, a history of pushing him away.

Why was he so unwavering? So patient? So willing to die for her?

She sighed silently. This life, she'd make it up to him. Even if she couldn't return his feelings, she'd be kinder. Better. She owed him that.

"Be careful." She said softly. "Supplies mean nothing now. But after the apocalypse… knowing we have stockpiles will be deadly."

"People will betray, steal, kill—don't trust anyone but your crew."

Kael laughed, low and reassuring. "Don't worry. I've dealt with snakes my whole life. I know how to keep secrets—and break anyone who steals from me."

He left soon after, calling his crew as he drove. First Reno Stark—"Drop everything. Buy as many supplies as you can. Build a hidden warehouse—no one finds it but us."

Then Li Jiangtian, Ye Haobo, Chen Zian, Zhou Lin—"Meet me at the bar's VIP room. Urgent. Don't be late—or I'll drag you there."

The private room was dim, thick with cigarette smoke and tension. Kael sat down, swirling his drink, brows furrowed deep.

The four men exchanged confused, wary glances. Finally, Li Jiangtian spoke. "Brother, what's wrong? You look like you've seen a ghost."

"It's not a fight. Not Underground drama." Kael downed his drink in one gulp. "It's a dream. I've had the same damn dream for three months—night after night."

He hesitated, voice grim and haunted. "A bloody fog. Mutated animals and plants—bigger, faster, bulletproof. Humans are their prey. The world turns to shit in days."
