Chapter 100 - Chapter 100: Illuminati Council (1)

On the outskirts of Geneva, separated from the main Federation Tower by a kilometer of manicured parkland and an artificial lake, a new structure had finished its silent gestation.

The building was a low profile geometric construct, resting on the edge of the water like a skipped stone frozen in time. The architectural lines were clean, designed to deflect radar, sonar and visual surveillance with equal indifference.

Inside, the air smelled of recycled ozone and the "new car" scent of high grade polymers.

Tony Stark walked into the foyer, his shoes clicking sharply on the polished floor. He stopped at a junction where a wall of matte black metal met a pane of blast proof glass. He ran a finger over the seam. It was invisible to the touch.

"Seamless integration of Stark tech automation and Wakandan vibranium weaving," Tony murmured, a hint of professional jealousy warring with approval in his tone. "Yeah. This works."

Aryan moved past him, his attention fixed on a translucent slate in his hand.

"Internal scrubbers are operating at ninety nine percent efficiency," Aryan said, his voice echoing slightly in the vast space. "The metaphysical shielding is active."

It was a physical manifestation of their alliance. The foundation was Stark's engineering, the skeleton was Wakandan vibranium, the pressure seals were Talokanil composites and the nervous system was the Umbrella's digital architecture. It was the most secure room on the planet, built to survive anything from a nuclear strike to a sorcerer's curse.

They entered the central chamber.

It was a circular room, dominated by a round table made of a non reflective material. Above, a domed ceiling displayed a real time holographic map of the solar system, the planets orbiting in a slow dance.

Separated by a wall of polarized glass, a gallery overlooked the floor. This was the perch for the eyes and ears… the seconds in command who managed the logistics while the leaders managed the philosophy.

Pietro Maximoff leaned against the railing, his silver hair catching the light. He was vibrating slightly, a blur of potential energy, his eyes tracking every micro movement in the room below.

Beside him, Sharon Carter was already working, her fingers flying across a tablet as she routed secure comms channels through the building's hardlines.

Bucky Barnes stood like a statue near the door, his hands clasped behind his back. The Winter Soldier was gone, but the vigilance remained. He watched the perimeter out of habit.

Down on the floor, the heavy hitters took their places.

T'Challa stood with his arms crossed, the Panther habit retracted into a formal suit.

Namor sat with a regal sprawl, looking bored by the lack of water but respectful of the engineering.

The Leader sat slightly apart, his expression composed and thoughtful under the chamber lights.

Wanda Maximoff stood near the window, looking out at the lake, her red leather jacket creaking softly as she turned.

Tony broke the silence. He tossed his slate onto the table, the clatter sharp and deliberate.

"So," Stark said, leaning back in his chair and steepling his fingers. "We have the ultimate clubhouse. We have the heat shielding and the coffee machine that costs more than a Ferrari. But we have a branding issue."

He gestured around the room.

"Before we start making civilization level decisions… like how to handle a Kree scouting party or what to do if a Celestial decides to park in orbit, we need a name. 'The Office' feels a little undersold. And 'Federation Annex B' sounds like where dreams go to die."

T'Challa tilted his head, the overhead light catching the vibranium weave in his collar. "Agreed. If we do not name ourselves, the media will do it for us. And they are rarely kind."

"It shouldn't sound secret," Wanda added, turning from the window. Her voice was soft but carried effortlessly. "The world knows we are here now. If we sound like a shadow, they will treat us like a conspiracy."

"Or a threat," Sharon's voice piped in from the gallery speakers, crisp and distorted by the glass. "We're supposed to be the safety net, not the sword hanging over their heads. The branding needs to say 'protection,' not 'occupation.'"

The Leader folded his hands on the polished surface of the table. "And it must survive legal scrutiny," he noted, his voice raspy. "It needs to appear in a budget report or a treaty without sounding like the title of a pulp comic book."

Tony grinned. "I like where this is going. No 'Super Secret Bunker Twelve.' Good start."

"Global Defense Nexus," a Federation liaison offered tentatively from the back of the gallery.

Tony grimaced as if he'd bitten into a lemon. "Hard pass. Sounds like a budget committee with delusions of grandeur. Too many syllables, not enough heart. It sounds expensive and slow."

"Unified Strategic Command," Sharon suggested, reading from her tablet.

Namor snorted, a derisive sound that echoed. "That name invites people to test it. It sounds like a challenge to a king. You do not name a shield 'The Unbreakable Wall' unless you want someone to bring a hammer."

"World Anomaly Bureau," Pietro chimed in, leaning over the rail.

Wanda shook her head immediately. "Too clinical. It makes it sound like we're filing paperwork while reality collapses. We aren't bureaucrats, Pietro. We are the ones who stand in the way."

Tony flicked his wrist, scrolling through a projected list of discarded options on the holographic display above the table.

"Every time someone says 'global,' 'supreme,' or 'ultimate,' I feel like we're one bad logo design away from becoming the villains," Tony said. "We need something grounded. Something that implies we're doing a job, not seeking worship."

"The Citadel," someone suggested.

"Veto," Tony said instantly. "Implies we're hiding behind walls. We're not under siege."

"Aegis Complex," another voice offered.

"Already rejected," Tony sighed. "Too mythological. SHIELD already played the acronym game and look how that turned out. We're trying to move away from being gods and toward being specialists."

The Leader nodded slowly. "Visibility is the key. If people hear the name and feel watched, we fail. If they hear the name and feel covered, we succeed. The name is the first layer of transparency."

A pause settled over the room. The list of rejected names was growing longer than the list of attendees.

"This building should project responsibility," Wanda said quietly, tracing a pattern on the table.

"That's the problem," Pietro muttered from the gallery. "Responsibility doesn't market well. People want heroes or they want machines. They don't want 'Responsible guardians.'"

They stopped pitching titles meant to inspire awe and started thinking about function. What was this building? It was a shield. It was a warning system.

Pietro straightened up, his eyes narrowing as a thought struck him. He dropped the playful tone.

"What about Sentinel?"

Tony stopped scrolling. He turned his chair slowly to face the partition. "Elaborate. Don't ruin it."

Pietro gripped the railing. "Sentinels watch. They warn. They stand on the wall where others can't, they make sure the perimeter is safe."

Wanda nodded slowly, the logic clicking into place. She looked at Aryan, then at T'Challa. "That fits. A sentinel does not interfere unless the gate is breached."

The Leader considered it, his fingers tapping a rhythmic sequence on the table. "A sentinel exists to protect. It implies a duty that is constant."

Tony snapped his fingers, the sound sharp in the acoustic perfection of the room.

"Sentinel Complex," Tony said, testing the weight of it. "Simple and clean. Hard to turn into a villain monologue."

He looked at Aryan. Aryan gave a single nod.

"Approved," the Leader said.

Sharon typed the command into the master registry. The holographic display above them flickered, the solar system map fading to the background as text scrolled across the dome, burning itself into the official record of the Federation.
